[JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - Re: What happened to stopDelivery()?
No answer? Which MBean registers those methods? It is vital to be able to intermediately suspend delivery to an MDB! Imagine a productive system and you discover an error in your code that causes lots of messages to generate exceptions. Then you will need to stop delivery (automatically) until you have fixed the problem. Otherwise you will have a total mess of thousands of messages in the DLQ which are totally out of order. [JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Portle and JavaServerFaces
Hi, I am developing some portlet application using JBoss-Portal-2.0-jboss-4.0.2 and JavaServer Faces (MyFaces that include a bridge to develop portlet with JavaServer faces). I developed an example where I put 2 portlet on my page. Each portlet contains a simple button and when I click on it the application write somethig on standard output. I noticed that only a portlet at time is active. If I click on the first portlet I see the output but if I click on the second portlet I don't see the output. If I maximize the second portlet and I click then I see the output of the second portlet. Is this behaviour right? Otherwise how can I do to have both portlet active at the same time? Jason, I know its been a while since you posted your problem. Did upgrading fix your Inuse -1 problem. We are getting the same problem using JBoss 3.2.3 on Windows 2000. We specifically see the problem on our connection pool for the persisted JMS queues. We are using MSSQL as our database. [JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: Steps to deploy Portlet in Jboss Portal
1) I deploy my portlets in extracted form, for instance a helloworld portlet would be copied in the folder: $PORTAL_HOME/server/default/deploy/jboss-portal.sar/helloworld.war/ 2) I don't know if web.xml is required but usually i add a minimal web.xml file to my portlet application: - ?xml version=1.0? web-app /web-app - 3) No, i think you don't need to use the pluto portlet container to run JSR 168 portlets. 4) Which deployment descriptors to use depends on the jboss portal version. With version 2.2 some XML deployment descriptors where replaced by a new one: *-object.xml, but this is all well documented in the docs. [JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - JACC provider under JBoss 4.0.3
Hi I am experiencing following behaviour when using custom JACC provider with 4.0.3 (I have done configuration JaasAuthenticationInterceptor, JaccAuthorizationInterceptor JBoss plugins, JaccAuthorizationRealm in Tomcat sar, and other settings for JACC provider): 1a) during call from a runAs configured EJB to another EJB the javax.security.jacc.PolicyContext.getContext(javax.security.auth.Subject.container) method returns subject populated with a SimplePrincipal that contains the runAs role name, not the runAs principal configured in jboss.xml for the EJB. 1b) during call from a runAs configured servlet to EJB the javax.security.jacc.PolicyContext.getContext(javax.security.auth.Subject.container) method returns subject with no principal although the servlet has the runAs principal configured in jboss-web.xml. However the internal SecurityAssociation.getCallerPrincipal() does return the configured runAs principal at least in the EJB container. JACC 1.0 specification chapter 4.6.1.1 says caller's or runAs identity should be returned, but I am not sure what is meant by it. I am trying to control access to components based on identity, e.g. username of the user that is authenticated and in case of runAs on the principal configured for the runAs role. 2) when EJBContext.getCallerPrincipal() is called in an EJB that is called from an EJB with configured runAs role the principal I am getting is the principal that has authenticated to the container, not the principal associated with the runAs role. However, if the caller is NOT authenticated to the EJB container the same call returns principal that IS associated with the runAs role. I am using custom login module not inherited from JBoss abstract login modules. 3) the call to SessionContext.isCallerInRole(String roleName) does not consult the JACC provider. IMO it should check for the EJBRoleRefPermission. The servlet container seems to be working OK, i.e. the call to HttpServletRequest.isUserInRole(String role) consults the JACC provider for WebRoleRefPermission. A.K. I switched all the Entity beans in my deployment to use cmp2.x jdbc2 pm so I'm not mixing containers either. Unless my eyes are failing me, your ejb-jar.xml seems to be missing a primkey-field element, and from looking at the JBoss code this problem seems to have something to do with PK fields. However, this isn't missing in my descriptors and the deployment still fails. Let me know if this helps... [JBoss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Conversation start with @Factory ?
Hi, I got it working using the latest CVS version of Seam. Gavin posted a fix very recently: http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopict=73702 Here is my factory method : | @Factory(contentLoaded) | @Begin | public String findAllNapContent() { | logger.info(Loading all content. Starting conversation); | loadContent(); | loadAllLanguages(); | contentLoaded = new String(content loaded); | return success; | } I don't think the return value is really used by the @Factory as the page that gets displayed is the one that you initially requested in the GET. However, if you should also use that method through a commandlink/commandaction mechanism the return value will determine the next page to display based on your navigation rule in the faces-config.xml. you might have a very specific situation where subprocessing fails. in case you have multiple subprocesses that don't have wait states. because the token has only 1 pointer to the current subprocess. we might fix this later but this has no priority atm. although we also want to support processes without wait states, they are not our main target and it is considered a rare situation. regards, tom. A connection may get used for about 2 hours. That is retrieved and replaced from the connection pool. After that period it seems that it is no longer used. Here are some snippets from the log file. 2005-11-24 02:19:58,722 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] supplying new ManagedConnection: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2005-11-24 02:19:58,722 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] Getting connection from pool [InUse/Available/Max]: [2859/11/100] 2005-11-24 02:19:58,738 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] putting ManagedConnection back into pool 2005-11-24 02:19:58,738 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] Returning connection to pool [InUse/Available/Max]: [2858/11/100] Then about 2.5 hours later 2005-11-24 04:52:54,254 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] supplying ManagedConnection from pool: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2005-11-24 04:52:54,254 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] Getting connection from pool [InUse/Available/Max]: [3103/11/100] 2005-11-24 04:52:54,254 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] putting ManagedConnection back into pool 2005-11-24 04:52:54,254 TRACE [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] Returning connection to pool [InUse/Available/Max]: [3102/11/100] So from these two snippets it can be seen that the InUse count has increased significantly. I have a cluster having Stateful session bean (SFSB) deployed. While trying to emulate a failover, i simulated a failure by taking out the network chord (which for me is a case of network failure) of one node which was servicing a request. The default behaviour is that of client waiting endlessly for something to happen whereas the server has gone down. How to resolve this issue, would it be resolved by specifying the time out (if yes then where is that specified), else what needs to be done. [JBoss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Question on configuration in sub process invocation
Hi, I have a process invoking a subprocess. You know, we include a configuration xml in CDATA tag inside process-state tag. This configuration I write is 470 characters long. I looked at the table JBPM_DELEGATION, and configuration column is varchar 4000, it is okay. I deploy the super process, it is successful. I make a select statement in sql editor. I see that the length of what I have inserted in configuration column is 470 chars long, but when it comes to this process-state and invokes the DefaultProcessInvocationHandler but in the configure method, it can get only 255 characters of the configuration as input, and tough throws an exception the default process invocation handler was not configured properly. In reality, the correct configuration data is out there in the database, but the code cannot retrieve all of it, when it reaches over 255 characters. What configuration shall I make to handle this situation? Thanks in advance :-) View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3911686#3911686 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3911686 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - JBoss as a RMI Server
Hi, I'm really new to JBoss and would really appreciate any help on this... Following lies some details but my real question is : How to set up a couple of plain old RMI Remote object available through a lookup (be it rmi registery or JNDI?) First of all some background information: I'm trying to port our current project to JBoss for: 1- commercial reasons (ie we *have to* use an application server anyway) 2- be able to benefit mostly from the persistence framework and other cool stuff (but that's for later) The current application is a swing-based and connects to the serverside via RMI. There are 4 RMI RemoteObjects registered in the RMI Registery (these could be considered as stateless), one of them providing methods to return some other Remote objects ( these not beeing registered in the RMI registery and could be considered as statefull). I haven't found how to expose the 4 RMI RemoteObject in the RMI registery from JBoss. So if there is a way of doing it, I'd greatly appreciate if someone could point me to how to do it. We're are not really willing to use EJB, nor SessionBeans if we can keep away from the J2EE stack, by using simple POJOs. (Actually, all of our remote objects are enhanced at run-time by CGLib (FYI) ) Then, I thought that I could declare the 4 RMI RemoteObject (the ones that are exposed in the RMI registery) as StatelessSessionBeans and live with it happilly. Unfortunately, JBoss won't allow me to declare a method returning a Remote object (not an EJB, just a plain RMI Remote object). (I guess that it would prevent the container to handle the Remote object ) So the question really is: How to set up a couple of plain old RMI Remote object available through a lookup (be it rmi registery or JNDI?) Thanks in advance for any help Cheers Chris View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3911695#3911695 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3911695 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. I want a workflow process which will poll my knowledge items table every 30 seconds (this is achieved in the CheckForExpiredKnowledgeItems DecisionHandler). My question really is about how to manage variable passing. Effectively my CheckForExpiredKnowledgeItems will pass execution to the createtasks node if it finds an expired KnowledgeItem. I am currently passing the item in question to the CreatePooledTask - by adding the javabean to the executionContext as a variable and reading this within the CreatePooledTask handler. This seems a little clunky however. Is there any better way of doing this, making this variable passing more explicit in the workflow itself? The CreatePooledTask ActionHandler will read this javabean off the request and create a task instance for it, setting the value of knowledgeItemID on the taskinstance - and setting a number of pooledActorIds. Does this sound sensible? One other thing that has been niggling me is the issue over these type of long running workflows. Essentially, this workflow will never terminate, as once it's created tasks I want the workflow to continue to poll for new items. Is this dangerous? Am I manipulating the workflow engine to work in a way in which it wasn't designed? Many thanks for any guidance. I want to achieve following: - Create Process Definition and store it in database using jbpmSession.getGraphSession().saveProcessDefinition(definition); I am using MSSQL. This process has one State node at which execution should wait for external input. I have to use State and not task-node as i want to take user input. - create process instances of this process and start execution. The instance will wait at the State node. Store the waiting processing instance in database. - Read the saved process instance from the database when external input is received and restart the execution. Please confirm that the approach is correct. Thanks for any better approaches. [JBoss-user] [Installation, Configuration Deployment] - powerpoint files not displaying right
When I take a powerpoint file (something.ppt) and put the file in the root directory, if I try to use IE 6 to see it, it tries to display in the browser window and all it produces is binary garbage. Firefox will show it fine. (I am running JBoss 4.0.3SP1) However, when the file is distributed with a standard Apache server, both IE 6 and Firefox handle it fine. IE 6 opens it IN the browser window. The only combination that does not seem to work is JBoss + IE6 + Powerpoint. (MS Word docs download and display fine.) I have tried adding the following lines to web.xml: mime-mapping ppt mime-typeapplication/vnd.ms-powerpoint/mime-type /mime-mapping but it still displays as binary garbage in IE6. Has anyone else encountered this or any ideas on a fix? As I understand it you need the adf-facelets.jar from the Facelets Contrib folder. https://facelets.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=3990expandFolder=3990folderID=3979 Then follow the special instructions for configuring ADF and Facelets. https://facelets.dev.java.net/servlets/ReadMsg?list=usersmsgNo=326 Then, with facelets-1.04 you should be OK. [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: JBoss as a RMI Server
You need the following: 1. rmi.policy file with the following content grant { // Allow everything for now permission java.security.AllPermission; }; 2. You will need the jboss-client.jar available in JBOSS_HOME/client folder. The jar provides JNDI lookups. 3. In the client application do the following: // your client method for looking up the registered RMI server object from JNDI String BINDING = RMIServerObjectRemoteInterface; String binding = //+host+/+BINDING; if(System.getSecurityManager() == null) { ClassLoader cl = client.class.getClassLoader(); java.net.URL url = cl.getResource(config/rmi.policy); System.setProperty(java.security.policy, url.toExternalForm()); System.out.println(Initializing the security manager); System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager()); } try{ // replacing rmi lookup with JNDI lookup //obj = (IRMIService)Naming.lookup(binding); Context context = getContext(host); Object objref = context.lookup(BINDING); obj = (IRMIService)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(objref,IRMIService.class);} catch(java.rmi.ConnectException ex){ System.out.println(The service may not be running on the host: +host); } catch(Exception ex){ System.out.println(Exception: +ex.getMessage()); ex.printStackTrace(); } 3. Server registration to the JNDI: First create a security Manager if(System.getSecurityManager() == null) { ClassLoader cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader(); java.net.URL url = cl.getResource(config/rmi.policy); System.setProperty(java.security.policy, url.toExternalForm()); System.out.println(Initializing the security manager); System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager()); } //To bind the server object to the JNDI try{ m_service = new PASTService(); String binding; String host; if(args.length0){ host = args[0]; } else { host = localhost; } binding = //+host+/+BINDING; // binding with rmi commented // Naming.rebind(binding, m_service); // will try JBoss JNDI Context context = getContext(host); context.rebind(BINDING, m_service); } catch (Exception ex){ System.out.println(Exception: +ex.getMessage()); ex.printStackTrace(); } 4. For jboss server's initial context, you can either user jndi.properties file or as detailed above in the code use the following method: private static Context getContext(String serverURL) throws NamingException { Properties p = new Properties(); p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory); p.put(Context.URL_PKG_PREFIXES, jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces); p.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, serverURL); return new InitialContext(p); } Hope this works for you. You are right Alex, I forgot the logs, but that is probably because we (internally at the company I work for) are used to having components that do log, so we get that automagically. If you do not defined e.g. the process in your war file and deploy it in one go with the webapp) it could introduce an extra deployment difficulty. You have to deploy the war as well as the process. It would be nice if we could create an example of an all in one war (code + process) as an example View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3911733#3911733 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3911733 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [JBoss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Use nested deployment for resource adapter
Hi all, I have looked at several examples now (including http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossJCAMessageInflowExample and the once that come with the commercial documentation) and these all deploy the .rar file separate from the actual components using the adapter. I was trying to add my .rar in my .ear file like: .ear .ear/APP-INF/lib/classes.jar (contains all .class files including the resource adapter) .ear/META-INF .ear/META-INF/application.xml .ear/META-INF/jboss-app.xml .ear/logic.jar (contains business logic components) .ear/message.jar (contains message driven beans that wil use the resource adapter) .ear/.rar .ear/.rar/META-INF/ra.xml When I deploy the ear file, I am not seeing any logging for the deployment of the resource adapter and also I am getting: anonymous wrote : | 14:47:52,510 ERROR [JBossMessageEndpointFactory] Starting failed jboss.j2ee:binding=message-inflow-driven-bean,jndiName=local/[EMAIL PROTECTED],plugin=invoker, service=EJB | org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException: Cannot locate resource adapter deployment null; - nested throwable: (javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException: jboss.jca:name='null',service=RARDeployment is not registered.) | which indicates that the resource adapter is not correctly deployed. I was wondering, is nested deployment for resource adapters supported at all? Have I used the appropriate structure that is required by nested deployment for resource adapters? Thank you, Rudi. [JBoss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: Simultaneous execution of Fork children
Here is the original process def: http://static.flickr.com/20/71523252_c5116f6d9a.jpg?v=0 Here is the new process def: http://static.flickr.com/20/71779978_7df2acc810.jpg?v=0 parallel1 and parallel2 are designed to go into wait states. I then signal their respective tokens which causes parallel1b and parallel2b to run. each waits 30 seconds before continuing, so I have time to signal the tokens. Notice the inclusion of a refresh state in each branch before the join. The purpose of this state is to cause the branch to exit (no signal). Just before falling out, it fires off a thread that is designed to resignal the token. This causes the branch to continue past the refresh node with state refreshed. It works. I've tested it. I was really really close to chucking jBPM completely, so this insight saved a headache on my part... This code is not perfect and I intend on improving today. I want make these changes: 1. have the thread wake up every second checking to see if the token is finished (I think I should be able to do this). 2. create some sort of symaphore so that a save of state and load of state are synchronous for a process instance. Since this could happen across VMs, it will be interesting. Here is the code snippet: call this in the execute of a class in the node-enter of refresh: Refresh r = new Refresh(context.getToken().getId()); This is the inner class: Note that ProcessWrapper is a convenience class I've created to do common things in jBPM without having to worry about all the details. It is normally called by a URL using jetty... // Class to re-signal the token after it falls out of scope private class Refresh implements Runnable { private long tokenId; public Refresh(long tokenId) { this.tokenId = tokenId; Thread t = new Thread(this); t.start(); } public void run() { try { // Sleep for 10 seconds (that should be more than enough for the // persistance of this step to complete) Thread.sleep(1); // Re-signal ProcessWrapper wrapper = new ProcessWrapper(); log.info(about to signal token from refresh: + tokenId); wrapper.signalToken(tokenId); log.info(token signaled from refresh: + tokenId); } catch (Exception ex) { log.error(Was unable to refresh token before join: + tokenId); } } } View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3911737#3911737 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3911737 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [JBoss-user] [Installation, Configuration Deployment] - Can 4.03SP1 with EJB 3.0 be gotten without the installer?
I find it confusing to have two different downloads both labeled 4.0.3SP1. I personally can not use a GUI installer, as there is no graphical interface on the machine where I wish to install. Is there someplace I can just download 4.0.3SP1 with EJB3 as a tarball? If not, can I suggest that in the future these should be available, and differences (such as the presence or lack of EJB3) between distributions should be clearly labeled on the download page? [JBoss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: Jbpm saveProcessInstance design
Yes, agreed, that might be the best solution. But, here's another problem. The subprocess-end event is useless if the context's token does not have the subProcessInstance field set. See, token.subprocessinstance is not a persistent field, which means that if the subprocess is started, then loaded in a different hibernate session later, the token.subprocessinstance field is null, which means that if you have an action on a subprocess-end event, its not going to know which subprocess ended. making the list of subprocesses is great, but it doesn't solve this problem. My gut feeling is that this should be treated as it is treated during subprocess creation: | public void execute(ExecutionContext executionContext) { | Token superProcessToken = executionContext.getToken(); | | // create the subprocess | ProcessInstance subProcessInstance = new ProcessInstance(subProcessDefinition); | // bind the subprocess to the super-process-token | superProcessToken.setSubProcessInstance(subProcessInstance); | subProcessInstance.setSuperProcessToken(superProcessToken); | | // fire the subprocess created event | fireEvent(Event.EVENTTYPE_SUBPROCESS_CREATED, executionContext); | . | See how the superProcessToken gets a nice setSubProcessInstance? That way the subprocess-created event knows which subprocess was created. The current code on notifySubProcessEnd is: | public void notifySubProcessEnd(ProcessInstance subProcessInstance) { |Token superProcessToken = subProcessInstance.getSuperProcessToken(); | | ExecutionContext executionContext = new ExecutionContext(superProcessToken); | | // feed the readable variables | if ((variableAccesses != null) (!variableAccesses.isEmpty())) { | | | } | | // feed the readable variables | fireEvent(Event.EVENTTYPE_SUBPROCESS_END, executionContext); | | I think it is very reasonable to do instead | public void notifySubProcessEnd(ProcessInstance subProcessInstance) { | Token superProcessToken = subProcessInstance.getSuperProcessToken(); | superProcessToken.setSubProcessInstance(subProcessInstance); | ExecutionContext executionContext = new ExecutionContext(superProcessToken); | | // feed the readable variables | if ((variableAccesses != null) (!variableAccesses.isEmpty())) { | | | } | | // fire the subprocess ended event | fireEvent(Event.EVENTTYPE_SUBPROCESS_END, executionContext); | | In this way, the subprocess-end event will pass a context where the token correctly contains the subprocess instance even if being loaded after being persisted while the subprocess was going on. I will post a JIRA bug with this same info. [JBoss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: Jbpm saveProcessInstance design
tom, processes with no wait states are rare. Our process do have wait states wrapped in decision nodes. Because all the decisions are negative, the subprocess doesn't have anything to do so it ends. One more thing, how could you have multiple subprocess per token? If you want to start multiple processes you'd have to Split, which means you would have multiple tokens and each would have a different superprocessinstance, right? Nope! I still get the same Exception using Facelets (1.0.4), MyFaces (1.1.1), ADF faces (EA19) on JBoss 4.0.3SP1. Which is very annoying as I'd really like to use Facelets to template my JSFs. Check that the admin user does have the Admin role in your database. It may come from that. You should set the useJK flag in 4.0.2. There was a problem with the JVMRouteFilter in 4.0.0 (see issue 1037726 on Sourceforge), but that was fixed in 4.0.1. [JBoss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: Simultaneous execution of Fork children
First, let me say that I am going to create a new fork and join node that works asynch. I was going to just create a new fork node, but after discussing the issue with my coworkers, we are going to add a new join that is aware of asynch tokens. This is the most elegant solution to this problem. It eliminates the need for extra states... Elaborating on: parallel1 and parallel2 are designed to go into wait states. I then signal their respective tokens which causes parallel1b and parallel2b to run. each waits 30 seconds before continuing, so I have time to signal the tokens. I think when we say goes into a wait state, it can be confusing. That simply means that I have a state node and I don't cause a signal to occur, leaving the token in that state node. parallel1 and parallel2 are state nodes that execute code in the node-enter event to simply Thread.sleep(3) then fall out, leaving the nodes in a wait state. I have a jetty server (http://jetty.mortbay.org/jetty/) that listens for certain URL requests. I have a request to signal a token. I use this URL to signal each token, causing the tokens to run in their own threads. Since parallel1 and parallel2 are signalled, the processes move respectively into parallel1b and parallel2b which Thread.sleep(3) and then signal themselves to continue. Say what you will, but I think jBPM needs asynch classes. We need it for our batch processing. I know that firing off threads in a J2EE environment is a no-no, but jBPM will not always be running in a J2EE environment and asynch behavior is desireable and as this discussion thread shows, it is hard to achieve properly... Thanks for the good suggestion and for letting me know that that was the root cause of your issue. I'll look into modifying TreeCacheSSOClusterManager as well so it throws a more meaningful exception rather than the NPE. Yes, but you need to use ClusteredSingleSignOn. In the standard server.xml, it's just below the non-clustered version. Just comment out the non-clustered and uncomment the clustered. requiresReauthentication applies to both.
