[JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - user Doc + clustering topic

2006-04-01 Thread noicangi
hi thanks for updating the user documentation about clustering, it would be
great if you can add some little information about the cache and jgroups, i was
googling and i found at the wiki some information about 2 clusters on the same
networkafter some brute force...i understand the behabour of cluster
service and tc5 service but i'am still with the question about the partition
name, where to set the default partition name on the xml?

in the documentation its important to add some information to users who are
just interested on the portal and for them jboss its just the hair of the tail.

hi, i'm using portal2.4 from cvs, mysql 4, one windows xp and one redhat 9 for

the thing is when i access the portal(http://localhost:8080/ , after changing
the path) i notice that the managment page and the cms admin was visible but
not accesible to unregistered user.

i think this is good for making some users register to access the page, but
also its a segurity risk if i want to make a page secret and accesible only for
some rols.

please comment or xplain me how to configure this.

thanks for all

hi thomas, thanks for your reply, i will try building the source with the
solution you plan.

maybe its the tutorial, but some days ago someone post that the
repositories.xml was obsolete and now we have to use the
jboss-portal.sar/portal-cms.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml,
i was thinking if it is posible to make the cms repository use a zippped
directory located in the farm folder?
actually i'm coping the all/data/portal folder from the server y create content
to the other node.

i yes, i know i must use database storage, this is the default configuration
isn't it?

i edit the tag's(with all inside) at
jboss-portal.sar/portal-cms.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml with the RDBMS
configuration examples from the wiki's but still stores some kind of
information in files.

here's my cluster information for you notice i'm following all steps:

-jboss as 404rc1, unziped
-2 redhat9 computers, one mysql 4 with the connector and all configurated well
-i build portal 2.4 from CVS with cluster=true

-i configured like i said before to use only database storage :(

could you post the rdbms config? i used the one of the
wiki'shttp://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=PortalCMSConfigFiles

thanks in advance

hi, i have 2 clustered jboss as 404rc1 in redhat9, one mysql 4 using the

my problem is that when i create content in the cms manager, or upload
something the content isn't replicated on the servers, but when i add som e
page to the portal all work fine.

i set the jboss-service.xml which manages the repositories and i set them to
same content in the database, but the content don't.

no what paolo means is that you need an extra xml in the direcotry called
jboss-portlet.xml with some the services of the cms.

in version 2.4 you create a new instance of the cms and you change the
preferences, or update them.

example:
   /default/index.html --update--/mydir/myfile.html

hi, i need to change the partition name to have 2 clustered jboss portal
running and 2 jboss clustered portal for study and development but the thing it
that in jbos doc apears:

mbean code=org.jboss.ha.framework.server.ClusterPartition
  | name=jboss:service=DefaultPartition
  |
  | ! -- Name of the partition being built --
  | attribute name=PartitionName
  | ${jboss.partition.name:DefaultPartition}
  | /attribute
  |
  | ! -- The address used to determine the node name --
  | attribute name=NodeAddress${jboss.bind.address}/attribute
  |
  | ! -- Determine if deadlock detection is enabled --
  | attribute name=DeadlockDetectionFalse/attribute
  |
  | ! -- Max time (in ms) to wait for state transfer to complete.
  | Increase for large states --
  | attribute name=StateTransferTimeout3/attribute
  |
  | ! -- The JGroups protocol configuration --
  | attribute name=PartitionConfig
  | ... ...
  | /attribute
  | /mbean

the thing is that ${jboss.partition.name:DefaultPartition} its an xml variable,
if i change defaultpartition by MyPartition i have to change the name many
times, it this right? there is an xml variable where i can chage the name only
one time?

thanks,
nicolas

no, its not other topic, if you start the jboss-portlet.xml on other portal
instance you start the services for make the cms portlet function. if you
notice helloportlet has a .class and your only configuring xml files.

no, you dont need to configure jboss-portlet.xml, simply copy the file next to
portlet.xml.

2.2.1rc2 dont' has instance preference of the cms. follow the steps of the
other topic and you will notice. its just text.

[JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - cms repository

2006-02-27 Thread noicangi
hi there, i was looking at repository.xml file at the portal and i notice that
the file was missing, (bundled brings it), my question is what configuration
uses the portal and if i copy the repositoryxml from the wiki it going to work?

+ if y use 100% DB, for clustering it must work?

thanks

in user doc it says :

anonymous wrote : The repository configuration file is located under:
jboss-portal.sar/portal-cms.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml. Remember to perform
this switch for the Repository, Workspace, and Versioning attributes.

and in wiki says:

anonymous wrote : Replace the content of the original one, with this one. You
can find the original file the CMS uses under
jboss-portal.sar/portal-cms.sar/portal/cms/conf/repository.xml.

i looked them and they are very similar, can you tell me which one it's the
valid one for clustering?

thnks in advance.

thanks julien , scott dawson and ptournet for xplaining how to use cvs, finally
i download the 2.2.1rc3 for make cluster, after testing all kind of things i
build the clñustered portal, and copied some portlets to the /server/all/farm
to make farmingbut here is my question:

i share mysql database between nodes( one winxp and another redhat9--mysql is
here) and all fine, but when i set the cms new instance to point to some
page...i notice that the page its stored only in a portal, ie: on the winxp or
the redhat, so the farming is only for portlets portal instancescan i farm
the portal? can i farm the cms repository?

continuing learning
thanks

[JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: Portal 2.2 Clustering

2006-02-23 Thread noicangi
hi i will explain my new situation...i downloaded the cvs jboss-portal-2.2, i
discovered that the build didn't function because claims that sample directory
was missing, then i download jboss-portal from cvs and copied the samples
directory to the jb2.2 and i build it.

then i discovered that builded portal.sar didnd funtion because it claims
themes and layout, so i added /themes/layouts.(i dont remember) to the
porta-server.war/web-inf directory
i ' run jb as on win so y set loopback to true an cluster-service.xml

it funtions...but when i run it in jboss as 404rc1 (( -c all)) it was portal
2.40alpha!! wow!!!

in mi investigation i copied a portlet.war to the server/all/farm and it copied
to the other cluster server
..then i set the portal-mysql.db.xml pointing to the same database and all was
fine but when i create a new cms intance pointing to a new uploaded page the
server throws this

[JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: Portal 2.2 Clustering

2006-02-21 Thread noicangi
hi, this is not the right topic but its refered to clustering.

i download the cvs ((jboss-portal-2.2)) ( i suppose the branch) to build with
clustering=true and change the portal instance name to /portal to / , it
builds but when i run the jboss the portal doesn't apears. because i'm using
bundled version i copy the server/all from the jbosss as 403sp1 to the bundled
and copy the builded portal.sar to the server/all/deploy at the bundled to make
clustering but it doesn't work.

please tell me if i'm doing the right thing with cvs and also if bundled + all
directory its able for clustering because instaling or unzipping jboss and
adding the portal.sar don't works.

i downloaded the jboss as 4.0.4rc1 with his installer and make a full(all)
install but it claims a that policy bla bla bla the same i post some topics
ago

[JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - portlet preferences

2006-02-20 Thread noicangi
hi, i change the path of the cms portlet like paolo said some topics ago(
jboss portlet and portlet.xml)

lokking for more information i notice that test portlet for example it is
posible to change the preferences of the portlet but the cms portlet you
cant...i tried to change at cms portlet to appear at instance preferences but
it crushesthe reason of this setting is to make posible to give the access
to some simple administrator( not the real admin) to change the initial pages
of portal.

2006-02-20 Thread noicangi
no, what i need is that in the managment page of the default portal, on the
portlet instances menu, i could change the portlet settings, like the test
portlet(secure test portlet instance i think) to create a nrew instance of the
cms portlet that target other html file.

i know i can change the target page, creating a new portlet in my portal
instance but it could be easier if i could change the properties of the portlet
instance directly from the admin portal.

[JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: Portal 2.2 Clustering

2006-02-20 Thread noicangi
yes i think so, i followed the steps of using eclipse in the wiki, i download
the jboss-portal-2.2 and build that version but it doesn't works, i start the
server but the portal don't starts. i tried to buield other version called
jboss-portal but i could't build it.

at this moment i'am stuck, i tried to build the portal ( i suppose i'm building
the branch, if not can you tell me please?)

and triyng to configure from the xml files ( clustering2_2) but doen'st work :P

for the record i copied the server/all directory from the jboss as 403sp1 to
the bundled version of the portal because this version doesn't brings the .jar
to make clustering. and when i install or copy the jboss AS the portal doesn't
work.

notice i'm just a begginer in jboss, i following every step of the
user/reference wiki and forum.

thanks for the help

2006-02-17 Thread noicangi
sorry julien i'm newbie to the portal.i'm just a learning user/admin of the
portal, can you pecify me waht do you mean with the portal head of branch?

i unziped the bundled versionnext i copy the server/all from the jboss as
4.0.3SP1.zip to the server/ directory of my bundled version to have all
functions...then like the pdf says.../jboss/binrun -c all with the portal.sar
copied to the all/deploy .and funtions well

the thing i don't understand wellis that to have the portal clustered i
must cluster jboss and follow the wiki instructions or just follow wiki steps
to only cluster the portal.

what fix? i must download something¿ or copy a file to the .jar where
hajcrcms.xml don't exist?

thanks julienand sorry, there are some terms in english i don't handle :P

the other thing is that in jboss forum says i need the all server...but in

the wiki doesn't explain how i set the master and the slaves.

please if you can detail the explanaiton of clusterin jboss portal it would be

ok but its silly to define a portlet style for the work inside a
portlet...maybe i need to have diferrent portlet with diferrents kind of fonts
sizes etc...

i need to know if this is a bug in jboss ( because the thmes determinate the
fonts styles) or its my instalation

thnks in advance.

pd: how do i buid the sourcei only use the bundled version :P

ok thnkx concan...

update text content of a html file using the wysiwyg editor of the cms admin
portlet...but the editor if not working well...i can't change the font
properties eventhough i write html code.

alsothe versioning...if i create a new version of a html in the editor i
cannot reuse an older one or edit it.

please check or confirm this problem :)

pd: i know this is not the right topic but how could i put content in the cms
without uploading it? i'm supposing that if i have 300 pictures i have to
upload them one by one¿?

yes i change the theme for changing the color and fonts but if y want to bold
text on a portlet it doesn't function.

i was thinking that maybe the theme changes the text inside the html.maybe
if i comment the portlet properties in the theme it would work.

build the source? it works like that? i download the bundled for easier
instalation :P

-check the connector its in the right directory (jboss/server/default/lib)
-check the file portal-mysql-ds.xml its configured to access your database

-delete portal-hsqldb-ds.xml if you use the bundled.

i remember some days ago that happened to me when i unzip the jboss as and
then added the portal
