Kinjal,
May be have a look at

http://www.google.com.au/apis/

Which will give you control on the search result.
Initially it is 1000 queries per day and 10 search result per query.
I dont know about the licensing details.
Have a look in the site I am sure this will be helpful.
This is a bit different approach to provide the same service.

Parameter in Xreg to Parameter in PSML

2003-03-24 Thread Javed Mahmud

Hi All.
I have a requirement of having the exact parameter list being copied to
the PSML file of the user when a portlet is added to the user. Curently it
looks as if when a portlet is added to the user portlet view thru
customizer the parameters from the oiginal definition in xreg file dont
copy. I m not sure but I think there is VelocityCustomizer there. Any info
doing this in JSP Portlet?

Any help will be welcome

Hi yong,
Well this jspeid value is the value for individual portlets set for every
portlet being displyed in the user view? or this is for a particular
request... if it is for particualr request then question is the
portlet.getId() method in build normal context will be the same to the
request one no matter what portlet is being submitted.

WAS : id parameter in psml by Pierre Henry

2003-03-24 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hello All,
I have developed a personalized web site based on Jetspeed framework.
I have been thinking of using jspeid field to know exactly which portlet
has been submitted and the corresponding portlets action or build normal
context should be run based on that field rather than running the heavy
code for all the portlets even if they are not submitted.
Now the question is that one gets the jspeid field in the request but with
what this jspeid field shud be compared with in the action or build normal
context method. ( I am sorry if I sound a bit confused but I actually am
:))
I am assuming that the portlet in the build normal context method is the
portlet which is being submitted and its id can be fethced by
portlet.getID() method. Now the ID in the HTTPrequest where is it set as I
can see in the JSP's that a call is made to
String jspeid = (String) request.getAttribute("js_peid");
where is this attribute set as this value is used in :

So I want to know where this jspeid valu is set.

Thanks
Javed

Getting List of portlets Programatically

2003-01-14 Thread Javed Mahmud

Hi All,
I would like to know is there any way like in build normal context method
or one of the action methods to get the list of portlets available for a
user to add (all the xreg files).
I want this because I want to add the portlets to the PSML files at the
runtime depending upon an attribute ( say user interests). So that I can
add the portlets wich are of interest to user. I would like to match the
portlet description field with the interest.
Is this possible? Any pointeer will be helpful.

Thanks
Javed

Change in Rendering TOP,BOTTOM AND LEFT templates

2003-01-08 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hi all,
I am not sure but somewaht sure As I have checked out from CVS head what I
see is that the previous logic of checking the top.enabled is not followed
as in the default.jsp has the following entry :

  ">

Rather than the entry which was in older version as:

<%if (JetspeedResources.getBoolean("topnav.enable") == true) {%>

  <%
  //
  // Display the company logo with link back to the the portal home page
  //
  %>

  ">
"
src="">

Is it me who is seeing this or is it being done in the latest version?
I dont think its a good idea. I prefer the way when enabled is checked..

As it took me quite a while to understand why my MY.properties file was
not working.

Thanks
Javed

RE: Event Handling in JSPPortlet

2003-01-05 Thread Javed Mahmud
Thank you Mark,
I have been able to get the Event Handling part going. And it is working
fine.
Now I am embarking on another *mission* to control the PSML for the users.
By this what I mean is I would like to add and update the portlets to the
User view rather than the user doing it. Its requirement for my project.
In my limited knowledge it will be better if I can control it through
databses PSML rather than the Flat File one.
Any references in this regard or pointer to mailing list threads will be
helpful.

RE: Event Handling in JSPPortlet

2003-01-01 Thread Javed Mahmud
Happy New Year To All:)
Hello Mark,

I was trying to send you email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] but there was some
error in reaching you so I am trying here Hope u will read the mailing
List :)
 Well I have tried the way u told me but things are acting in a strange
 way in this second new years day
 In my Action clas there are three methods corresponding to three events
 doStatusChange to change status
 doAdit to add the value to table
 doView show the details from the table.

 To my utter disbelief doView is working fine (I dont know how) but the
 doStatusChange does not. I have checked that they dont have anything
 different in the way they are defined in JSP Template and the Action
 class.
 A question arises from my vigorous testing that when a method
 corresponding to the event is fired what happens to buildNormalcontext
 method is it called after the method for event(likely) or before
 (unlikely) or never called (Happening in the case of doView). If you are
 thinking there is something with the JavaScript then its not the case as
 doView and doStatusChange both sets the value for the actionType (my
 varable) to certain value 'V' for view and 'A' for doStatusChange when
 Adding.
 I dont know if I am able to explain the scenoario or not.

 Thanks
 Javed

It does not make sense to me in that you are calling the event from
handler with in buildNormalcontext. I have a perception that doRefresh
shud be called before buildNormalContext correct me if I am wron. But if
this is not the case and one has to call doRefresh frm within the
buildNormalcontext in my opinion we dont require an events then. I doubt
that we have to call it frm inside buildNormalContext though.

I have put in the

jsp files are in  /WEB-INF/templates/jsp/portlets/html

but I am using 1.4b2 SHUD I CHANGE ??

So u think its not a good practise to do this. Well what I was trying was
less dependency on the properties file frm Jetspeed. Do u recommend using
only the jar file from jetspeed or we shud download the whole suite???

Hi,
I was looking onto the TutorialStockQuote8.jsp and it has the following
entry for FORM. The tutorial itself says that there should be

in the FORM. Is this only required when handling events or its a general
requirement.

  Enter symbol(s) separated with commas:

My problem is not yet solved about Events in JSPPOrtlet
Any help will be appreciated!!! :=)

Thanks

Hi!
I cannot see any event handling example in jportal.jar. it contains simple
build normal context examples!!
Is there any separate source available for that???

Thanks

Event Handling in JSPPortlet

2002-12-17 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hello All,
I have a jsp page with Form Entry as
http://localhost:8080/adm/portal";>

 Your Details

It fails to call the statusChange Method defined in
portlets.UserDetailAction class. It bypasses to get the buid normal
context method.

Any clues??

Thanks Javed

Whats wrong with xreg file

2002-12-17 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hello All,
I am working on JSP Portlet. I m working with jetspeed-1.4-b2,
jakarta-tomcat-4.1.12 and j2sdk1.4.1_01 using MySQL.
Can somebody tell me what is wrong with the following xreg file.
All the jsp files and action classes are in the right package (following
the turbine package structure). It does not come up in the list of
portlets to be added.

Thanks

No Response

2002-12-15 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hello All,
I have installed the beta 2 version.
It was working fine till I tried to change the properties.
In order to over ride the properties I have provided the values for
different parameters in my.properties file. And made the changes in
web.xml for this purpose. Now when I acces the default page through the
url the browser seems to be doing something but it never returns with any
output.
Any help will be great as I m stuck with this for sometime.

Thanks
Javed

N.B the my.properties file include the following statement
include = TurbineResources.properties

Re: Datbase Access

2002-12-11 Thread Javed Mahmud
Further to my email I would like to clarify what I want exactly to do.
Rather then extending the Turbine User Table I am trying to have a
separate form and a separate Table for Additional User details and let the
user enter the detail in one of the portlets and then submit that, handle
the input and respond back to the user in the same portlet with a message
that his details are updated ( i dont have any clue now how to do all
these but I am figuring out).

thanks

database pool which is available in Rundata object which can be used to
access other tables in the database from with in the portlet or
portletaction classes..
what is the difference between RunData and JetSpeedRunData. what added
features does Jetspeed Rundata has?

Thanks

Re: JSP as an action parameter

2002-12-09 Thread Javed Mahmud
Thanks Sangam!
That I have fugured out but I want to know how the input will be handled
(Can the JetspeedRundata be used) and how the out put will be directed to
same portlet. Also The size of the frame that shows up with the scroll bar
how can that size be controlled.
The source parameter is not relative to the Jetspeed webapp. Inorder to
use the same Jsp template we have to provide the whole path as in the host
and port details and app context. This seems a bit inelegant... Just my
opinion.
As usual any pointers and help will be great.
Thanks

Thanks Joe!
Is there any tutorial or documentation that can exactly explain how the
IFramePortlet works. I mean How is it different from JSP and Velocity
Portlets and the features you have mentioned how can they be utilized.

JSP as an action parameter

2002-12-09 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hello all,
I have a question whether a JSP page can act as an action.
I have seen that action has to be mentioned in the tr.p file as
module.package. In my limited knowledge JSP cannot act as action. Correct
me if I am wrong.
If this is right then what is the way out to use jsp.

Thank You

Extending User??

2002-12-04 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hello there,,
I am a bit confused in how to extend the TUBINE_USER Table.
So far I have seen two kinds of approach in this mailing list was
wondering which one is the best way to do or they both need to be done in
order to add a field in the TURBINE_USER Table.
Following are the approaches:

Approach 1:
===
1. Modify the torque schema.xml :

I changed the name of the table user to MYUSER, but I specified
JavaName=TurbineUser, so that the generated classes keep the same name.
Added the 'title' field.

...

...

I rebuilt to generate the peer classes.

2. Create a MyUser interface and a MyUserImpl class

MyUser extends JetspeedUser and add the setTitle and getTitle methods, and
the static final String TITLE = "title".

MyUserImpl extends BaseJetspeedUser and implements MyUser :

public class MyUserImpl extends BaseJetspeedUser implements MyUser {
public String getTitle(){
   return (String) getPerm(MyUser.TITLE);
}
public void setTitle(String title){
setPerm(PcsUser.TITLE, title);
}
}

3. Modifiy the JetspeedSecurity.* files

set
"services.JetspeedSecurity.user.class=myclasses.portal.om.security.MyUserImp
l"

Wherever this parameter appears.

APPROACH 2:
===
If its 1.4, then its best to change your Torque schema and regenerate
(build/torque/schema/security-schema.xml).

***
The Map Builder method does not work with Jetspeed 1.4.
However it does work with Jetspeed 1.3.
Jetspeed 1.4 no longer uses the Turbine Security model.

The approach to take for Jetspeed 1.4 is to modify the Torque XML and to
regenerate the model, not to modify Java code and adaptors.

Now for the Approach 2 I have tried to get in to the Torque directory and
run "ant main" but nothing changes.
I have added

in the security-schema.xml.
Any help will be great. (If there is any way without getting into the Code
:=)) because I want my application to be independent of any change to
Jetspeed.

Thanks Javed

RE: Replcaing the default_top with vm and jsp

2002-12-02 Thread Javed Mahmud
Thanks Mark,
You are right that I m trying to use JSP as default teplate.
I was not sure about the fact that only one (either JSP or Velocity) can
be used as template at a time.
Second I have tried both velocity and JSP both without changing the
property u have mentioned here. So in theory the vm file should have
worked, but it didn't.

Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers!
Javed

Replcaing the default_top with vm and jsp

2002-12-01 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hi,
I have been looking to change the default_top and default bottom of the
JetSpeed default page.
I have been following the tutorial for the Beta 2 version(I have been told
in this list that the tutorial can work with Beta 1 version too) I have
tried to use
topnav.vm = top_default.jsp property in JetSpeedREsources.properties file
but to no avail. I have tried top.vm also but the error on the top of the
page which shows up with other things is

Error processing navigation template:/html/top.vm using module:
VelocityNavigation

The Template Locator related parameters in JR.p are :
services.TemplateLocator.classname=org.apache.jetspeed.services.template.JetspeedTemplateLocatorService
services.TemplateLocator.templateRoot=/WEB-INF/templates
services.TemplateService.default.extension=vm

And also the topnav.enable = true.

the values in TurbineResource.properties for Velocity Service
services.VelocityService.file.resource.loader.path = /WEB-INF/templates/vm

and for JSP Service is
services.JspService.templates =/WEB-INF/templates/jsp
services.JspService.buffer.size = 8192

Any help will be valuable.

Thanks
Javed

Is there any special importance of specifying the details in

Developing an application based on Jetspeed

2002-11-21 Thread Javed Mahmud
Hi All,
To start with I must say i m novice for Jet Speed and its related projects
except for Tomcat.
I have been scraping the mailing list for past two days.
Looking for a way to develop an application based on Jetspeed which will
provide the portal with portlets. Uptill now I have seen that one can
register the portlet to the jetspeed portlet. And then that portlet would
be available for customization.
I am using beta version of Jetspeed (jetspeed-1.4b1-release-war)
and Tomcat (jakarta-tomcat-4.1.12) and off course MySQL.
I have been able to deploy the Jetspeed and it is running as I have been
able to log in and add a user (although I have not been able to get the
confirmation email thru my SMTP host, changed the entry in
JetSpeedResources.properties file to the SMTP).
What I am after is a guidleine may be steps or things to look for when
developing an application based on JetSpeed.

My main goal is to build a personalized web site. Thought portals is the
best way to do it.
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Javed
