[JOYnet] Prayer request

2001-12-03 Thread Alfred Samji

This is a prayer request for one of the good Lord's servants who has been
serving Him for a good part of his life. Those of the Dubai parish will know
him well. It is Br. James Joseph, the Parish Council Co-ordinator. He has
been a guiding force in every venture in the parish from leading the rosary
to organizing high level events. He is a backbone of every movement in the
St. Mary's Church.

He is now bed-ridden from 2 days because of asthmatic coughing and is very
weak, even unable to speak. During the JY Conference this Sunday 5 members
of the intercessory group had received messages from the Spirit asking for
strong prayers for Br. James. Br. James was of course there for the
conference to help out. And it was from that same day that he fell sick.

I request all friends in Christ for strong prayers to get Br. James back on
his feet again on his mission for Christ. Praise the Lord.

Regards in Christ,

Samji / Dubai

Re: [JOYnet] MTP ?????????????

2001-12-03 Thread Josun Jose

Dear friends,

I was reading the mails that came forward and I found a very valid point in
Kripa's Mailtried to change people's attitude towards the same...

I feel this is a very valid point and a gr8 lead for us to pursue. If we
look at the life of Jesus, this was his approach all thru, he changed the
belief systems, attitudes, paradigms of people. I feel that's why in just
three years he managed to upset the whole world!. In my opinion if we can
change the very belief system and attitude of a person, they will themselves
be able to make proactive choices without being swayed/compelled by external
influences.

Im sure Most of us here today follow Jesus out of our own free will isn't
it?,. Well, in my case it is so, out of my own free will I choose Jesus. Its
not because of anyone's prodding, coaxing or threatening that im here today.
Its my decision.

In the same way, I feel by just scraping the Act alone, we may succeed in
making it illegal, but there the cake is only half baked. What about the
attitude and belief system of people? We have not done anything as yet to
alter that.

In my opinion, Once a persons belief system is changed, we won't have to
police the person about right and wrong, they will on their own make
responsible choices. Ofcourse we have to spread an awareness. that is an
important part of the process, but its not the end.

How would it be if we can work on ways and means of how we can change the
belief systems and attitudes of people with regard to MTP? What are the
different dynamics we can use to empower people to be responsible for every
action of theirs?

Love and prayers in Jesus,

Josun Jose/New Delhi

Re: [JOYnet] it is my first mail to you friends!!!!

2001-12-03 Thread Josun Jose

Hey friends,

This is an amazing example of joynet hibernation! Jos Mathew has been part
of us for more than an year and see how silent he's been. Whats up Jos, r u
joining a cloistered community or what???

Jos Mathew is an amazing person, I have had the privilage of being with
him, knowing him, fighting with him and learning from him for 2 years +
while he was in Delhi.

Friends, This guy is a wonderful chap, very dynamic and a make-it-happener!.
Very contagious too. Jos has been very instrumental for the growth of Jy
here in Delhi especially among us local youth.. Even today people talk about
jos Mathew:).

The best part of Jos that I like is his wit. Most of the jokes I use are
plagiarized versions of his. One of his favorite is."when u look at some
catholics today, it seems they have been baptized in vinegar:)" Jos
seeing your 1 year long silence, it seems ure baptized in brake fluid!!

C'mon Jos, share some of your 'Jos factor' with all of us.

Guys n gals, do mail jos and smoke him out of his hole, see for your selves
how contagious he can be!!

Love and prayers,

Josun Jose/New Delhi

People has taken it a status symbol now. If there's a marriage where
there's no dowry involved, people are really looking down at it. The
attitude is that if there's no dowry then there's something wrong with
the guy mentally or physically. And the worst thing is that the so called

[JOYnet] RE (JOYNET) Discussion on Prolife

2001-12-03 Thread Lina Mathew

Dear Joynetters,  i perfectly agree with brother Kurien's
views in principle, and i certainly know that Dr. Shiny and team are
doing wonderful work on the issue of pro-life. sending the message that
there is still  a section of people who strongly believe that it is wrong
to legitimise abortion through law is certainly  perfectly justifyable ,
as each human being or group of human beings  is endowed with the
fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression , which is one of
the rights emanating from the foremost right to life. attempts to change
law in this regard is hence a perfectly valid deal on the part of the
community. i do not dispute the issue in this light.   as i
debate on  this issue, i am only reminded of that little prayer that we
jys generally know so well :Gos grant me the SERENITYto accept the things
I cannot change,COURAGE to change the things I can,and WISDOM  to know
the difference.love and prayers,
lina  All,
I think that Shiny and the other Prolifers are doing a great job. I
would believe that they have prayed a lot about it for discernment
before they set out to do what they are doing. Not all can do things
like that. Others must help them with a lot of prayers. Even if they
accomplished nothing for others to see, they will have prompted a lot of
people to pray for the cause and created a lot of awareness about this
scourge in our society. Jesus demands us to be faithful, not successful.
He will have accomplished His plans in His own way. We need to be just
the instruments. Here in America a lot of people go to pray the Rosary,
in front of abortion clinics. One might think it is useless. Just last
week my friend told me that he witnessed a girl changing her mind even
after going into the clinic. At least one life was spared that day.
Another thing is that even a "dead letter" law is a curse o! n a
society. Many American people go to Washington D. C. to demonstrate
every year to try to make the Congress to change the Abortion Law here.
We Indians, who pride about our country being the cradle of
spirituality, must be aware of the evil in the Abortion law. As a human
person, we are bound to uphold life, which starts at inception of the
fetus' existence. Scientist who search for truth will acknowledge the
above fact. We,  as persons responsible for the election of our leaders,
have a collective responsibility before God for upholding truth in the
Laws of the land. If we fail in our duty, we as a Nation will be held
accountable for the actions of others.
End does not justify the means to attain it. Cloning of Humans is an
evil that is more deadly than even abortion.
These are my opinions and I do not intend to offend any one.
Yours in Jesus , Mary and Joseph,
Kurian Nellikunnel, New Jersey, USA

[JOYnet] Re: Dowry issue

2001-12-03 Thread rose antony

 U TOOK ME ABSOLUTELY WRONG,Suresh.
I never ever said it's only for guys, because i know more girls /girls' parents than
guys who insist on giving dowry just to SHOW OFF their financial status. I have some
examples in My fathers family - My cousin was getting married and the guy said he
doesn't need a 'chilli kaasu', but my aunty insisted on giving the dowryjust to
show off ! the result now is that the guy has got a major ego problem with his
in-laws. he still feels that he was bought for a ransom amount.
I have a dentist friend, he claims that he spent loads and loads to do his BDS & MDS
and he insists on taking dowry for the money he had to spent to reach where he is now.
I don't wanna say it's only guys...more than the candidates, it's their relatives
who pricks them about the need of taking and giving a good money as dowry.
Yesterday i got a funny mail from a joynetter saying that if a female teacher is
looking for an engineer partner, what is wrong in taking dowry. What i mean to say
that the entire system is going in a wrong way. We need to change our attitude. Even
though you or myself talk that it's a bad system...we have something some kind of
attitude running through our blood , which is almost hereditary and we find it so
difficult to change ourselves.

Hi

Actually, I believe that the words are meant for Judas. There are hidden
meanings in God's words, but he always made sure that the normal people
could grasp the meaning to an extent. As far as Judas go, there is no point
in saying that he didn't know the consequences. He was given many chances to
repent, but it was necessary that the betrayal should happen. For example,
he said in numerous occassions that one of the 12 apostles was satan, during
the last supper, he made it sure that it was Judas who would be the one -
satan. And when he wanted Judas to go and finish his task, he was giving him
the last chance to repent. But that would never have happened. This is
actually a very complicated situation to understand. Judas knew what he was
doing as he was with him whenever God told them aboout the pains he was
about to suffer.
Now there rises a question. Why was Judas damned if God wanted him to do
that? That is a good question, because if Judas didn't do it, mankind's fate
would have been in trouble. But, the most important thing that we should
know is that God is not subjected to time. He created the past, He creates
the present and the future. All that happens in the future is meant for him
alone to know. This is rather complicated. God knows what sins each born and
unborn human being would commit, as he is God. But he waits patiently,
giving chances everytime to repent because he knows that the time of man's
living is very short. So, he knew Judas well. The only one who wants to hurt
God deliberately is satan and he is very wise. satan exploited Judas's
revolutionary concept and lust for money. We could see here well that as he
was an apostle, this applies to all the priests and those in high positions.
Unlike others who followed God's words, he wanted 'action' instead of
patience and from his story it is made clear that if one cares about the
wealth more than God, his fate is already prophesized. This is not just for
the priests, but for all of us as every christian is a priest of God.
So why would Judas be damned? He was given all the chances. He knew he was
betraying his master who was none other than lord God. He knew. So, even
though God came as man and stood aloong with him, he turned away from him.
Who would do that? This was all supposed to happen because God has given
free will to every man. Since he knows the future, he warned Judas through
ages through the psalms and the prophets. And the Jewish people of those
days knew well the meaning of scriptures. But they demanded 'action' rather
than patience. They expected a super man to come and physically destroy the
enemies like in a modern action film. So they couldn't accept the idea of
salvation that God had in mind.
About the section
"The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man
by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if
he had not been born.''
No, it cannot be satan who betrayed him, as satan didn't betray the son of
man alone. He betrayed lord God who is the father, the son and the holy
spirit. The son of God came as man and called himself the son of man because
he came as a man. These words that Jesus said perfectly applies to Judas as
I said earlier, the same things were said through ages to remind about what
lies in the future for the Jews, as it is all there in the old testament.
Moreover, the catholic teachings specify that the man who is spoken here is
Judas. Not only that, Satan is not a human being and he never came as man.
How could Jesus address satan as
"woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed" since he cannot be a
man? There is a reason for this to be to the point (without hidden
meanings). The old scriptures point out cleary that a man who would be close
to the Messiah would betray him.
Judas knew what he was about to do, as God made it so clear. He even heard
Jesus say "The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of Him; but woe to
that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for
that man if he had not been born.'' . He had the chance. He knew the
seriousness of what he was doing as God made it perfectly clear for him, but
he ignored, because money and power overtook him.
In the old testament, God says that he would harden the heart of the
Pharaoh, so that he wouldn't let go of the slaves, and so through Moses he
would perform many miracles and that he would harden the Pharaoh's heart
more. This, God did - hardening the heart of the Pharaoh, but it was to
teach the people of old days about the power of God. Through the miracles,
they would know that the one they think who is very powerful (the pharaoh)
is just an ordinary man and there is only one God, the God of Israel. The
pharaohs made themselves Gods and avatars and sons of Gods in those days.
So the case is different with the pharaoh and Judas. Also, we have to note
the way of addressing about Judas by the disciples of God later. We know
that the new testament was writte

[JOYnet] "Do You Hear What I Hear?" by Paul H. Dunn

2001-12-03 Thread BinaM

- Forwarded by Bina Mathew/IBS on 12/04/01 09:02 AM -

"Do You Hear What I Hear?"
(Written by Paul H. Dunn)

Once upon a time, there was a man who looked upon Christmas as a lot
of humbug.

He wasn't a Scrooge. He was a very kind and decent person, generous to
his family, upright in all his dealings with other men. But he didn't
believe all that stuff about an incarnation which churches proclaim at
Christmas. And he was too honest to pretend that he did.

"I am truly sorry to distress you," he told his wife, who was a
faithful churchgoer, "but I simply cannot understand this claim that
God became man. It doesn't make any sense to me."

On Christmas Eve, his wife and children went to church for the
midnight service. He declined to accompany them. "I'd feel like a
hypocrite," he explained. "I'd much rather stay at home. But I'll wait
up for you."

Shortly after his family drove away in the car, snow began to fall. He
went to the window and watched the flurries getting heavier and
heavier.

"If we must have a Christmas," he reflected, "it's nice to have a
white one."

He went back to his chair by the fireside and began to read his
newspaper. A few minutes later, he was startled by a thudding sound.
It was quickly followed by another, then another. He thought that
someone must be throwing snow balls at his living room window.

When he went to the front door to investigate, he found a flock of
birds huddled miserably in the snow. They had been caught in the
storm, and in a desperate search for shelter had tried to fly through
his window.

I can't let those poor creatures lie there and freeze, he thought. But
how can I help them?

Then he remembered the barn where the children's pony was stabled. It
would provide a warm shelter. He quickly put on his coat and galoshes
and tramped through the deepening snow to the barn. He opened the
doors wide and turned on the light. But the birds didn't come in.

Food will bring them in, he thought. So he hurried back to the house
for bread crumbs, which he sprinkled on the snow to make a trail into
the barn. To his dismay, the birds ignored the bread crumbs and
continued to flop around helplessly in the snow. He tried shooing them
into the barn by walking around and waving his arms. They scattered in
every direction - except into the warm, lighted barn.

"They find me a strange and terrifying creature," he said to himself,
"and I can't seem to think of any way to let them know they can trust
me. If only I could be a bird myself for a few minutes, perhaps I
could lead them to safety."

Just at that moment, the church bells began to ring. He stood silently
for a while, listening to the bells pealing the glad tidings of
Christmas. Then he sank to his knees in the snow.

"Now I understand," he whispered. "Now I see why you had to do it."

"And the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring
you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; for
today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who
is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a
baby wrapped in cloths, and lying in a manger.' And suddenly there
appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men
with whom He is pleased.'" (Luke 2:10-14 NASB)

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The
Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)

[JOYnet] The Believers Valley of Experiences - 2

2001-12-03 Thread biji james

Dear Friends,

04 December 2001

“What seem to us as bitter trials are often blessings
in disguise.”
Oscar Wilde
The Believer’s Valley of Experiences

Psalm 23:5 :: New American Standard Bible (NASB)

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup
overflows"

How many times have difficult circumstances caused you
to wonder why God would allow you to experience pain?
Even though the Bible explains that God’s thoughts and
ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), we are
often tempted to spend time trying to “think like
God.”

When we strive to understand God’s motives, we run the
risk of becoming mentally sidetracked, losing touch
with the One who can lead us out of the valley.
Maturity comes when we turn our “why’s” into “what’s”
and “how’s.” For example, what is God trying to teach
me? How can I use this experience to bring glory to
God?

Though valley experiences are birthed from unpleasant
things, they do not have to end badly. In Psalm 23:5
we learn that David emerged from his personal valley
with praise for God’s goodness: “You prepare a table
for me in the presence of my enemies; You have
annointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.”

If you are currently trapped in a valley of fear,
depression, confusion, or grief, realize that God is
still in control. He loves you and has a divine
purpose for your life. Do not try to rush through the
valley; trust Him to lead you through at His perfect
pace. When doubts or purposeless thoughts enter your
mind, submit them to God in prayer and ask for His
guidance and comfort.

[JOYnet] Discussion on prolife !!

2001-12-03 Thread Kurian Nellikunnel

Welcome back Giju & Rose!!!
Suresh,
According to Fr. Suresh, the name is the Sanskrit equivalent of
Joseph and I think Kumar is the Hindi version of Kumaran meaning little
one, young man, boy etc. So, I think you do not have to worry about
adding a jose at the end.

All,
I think that Shiny and the other Prolifers are doing a great job. I
would believe that they have prayed a lot about it for discernment
before they set out to do what they are doing.
Another thing is that even a "dead letter" law is a curse on a

Re: [JOYnet] A weird thought.

2001-12-03 Thread Lukas Stevens

Jesus did not say that it would have been better for Judas to not have been
born. Rather Jesus said that "The Son of Man is to go, just as it is
written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It
would have been good for that man if he had not been born.'' One may assume
this is Judas, but it may mean Satan who is the true betrayer. Also, Only
God knows to what degree Judas understood about his sin of betrayal. Also,
Adam and Eve didn't know the complete consequences of their sin until after
they sinned. Whether someone knows or doesn't know about the consequences
does not negate from the fact that the sin was committed.

the part "good for that man if he had not been born" may be pointing to the
consequence of dying in moral sin and betrayal of truth of God = eternal
damnation. I would completely agree with Jesus that it would be better that
someone not have been born then end up in hell. But that is exactly why
Jesus came and died for us on the cross. He has given the path to eternal
life. All are welcome. No matter how great the sin, the Mercy of God will
win out if only someone will turn to God in trust and faith instead of
despair. Beware of despair and not trusting in God's mercy. It lead Judus
to hang himself when he could turned to God for forgiveness.

[JOYnet] Discussion on prolife !!

2001-12-03 Thread Suresh Kumat T. Jose

Hi friends,

Happy to open Joynet these days.

Welcome back Giju & Rose.. why one week delay after marriage
We were expecting your mail from last Monday onwards. Anyway Giju & Rose
proved that they are not like others. Many of our freinds were missing
in action after marriage. Now our Mr. & Mrs. Webmaster is back in Joynet...
We are really proud of you.

PS: Rose it is shame to ask public fund for honey moon also it is
a crime

Our discussion on prolife is on a turning Point after Lina's mail on
this issue. It is really wonderful mail and she explains various issues
regarding this. Also see the mails from Joby Thomas, Sheril, Rose, Kripa etc

Just read the interesting points came out in this discussion...

Lina Mathew - (Law Post Graduate Student -Bangalore)
"our God is a  God of justice , 'who gives rain to  the just and the
unjust',  and God has given man, (who is created in His image and
likeness and endowed with all rights) every right to  enjoy total
freedom -- freedom to follow the devil or Him. "

Joby Thomas -
" Remember when God asked Cane about his brother and he in reply
asked God whether he was his brother's caretaker... God replied,
"Your brother's blood is crying out from the ground for justice".
God will no doubt condemn the unjust be it law or man because
HE is indeed a just God. My question is why does law prohibit
murder or adultery or other such crimes? Well the individual has
the right to choose Good or evil...isn't it? "

Lina mathew -
" Understand the crux of the matter--that God did not prevent
man from exercising his freedom to choose evil."
"As Christians, we cannot impose our views on others just because
we know that we are right and they are wrong. let's not use the
ostrich -which -buries -it's -head -in -the-sand  approachmuch
hue and cry will ensue as certain sections of society will say
that it is better to have legal abortion and save the health
of the mother than have illegal abortion and let both woman and
fetus die."

Joby Thomas -
What is the difference between killing a human person who is
one day old or one who is just 3 months in the mother's womb.
BOTH ARE COLD BLOODED AND BRUTAL MURDER. HENCE, THE OFFENCE IS
EQUALLY PUNISHABLE GOING BY THE PRINCIPLES OF JUSTICE and LAW.
MTP IS A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED MEDICAL JARGON FOR A HEINOUS AND
BARBAROUS ACT OF PUTTING AN END TO LIFE. AND THIS BY NO MEANS
SHOULD BE PERMITTED. ON THE CONTRARY, I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND
A STRONG PUNISHMENT TO THIS OFFENCE SO THAT PEOPLE ARE DISCOURAGED
FROM COMMITTING IT. The right to freedom should be exercised
in the right perspective, in order to promote and preserve life
and not to destroy it.

Sheril Daniel - ( Masters Student - Rhodes university -South Africa)
"Whatever the outcome, and however slim the chances that it
would be in "our" favour, we should fight for what we believe
is right in God's eyes."

Kripa Joy - (LLB Student - Bangalore)
"Jesus Christ in the incident with prostitute did not try to
amend or change the jewish law condemning the prostitute to
death by stoning ,but tried to change people's attitude
towards the same by stating that he who has not sinned shall
cast the first stone. The point that i am trying to convey is
that, as christians, to change a particular pratice in society
the method to be adopted might be to convince people rather
than to amend the law."

Joby Thomas -
I am extremely pleased on learning about the efforts to scrap
the MTP act. I sincerely hope and pray that the Government would
pass laws condemning and making the act a punishable offence.

Expecting more comments on these issues... Some of our animators
please respond... hope Alexy, Shiny, Sunny etc will comment...
Mathew we need somebody to cordinate the discussion.. Any
Volunteers ???

[JOYnet] anti-abortion to Delhi

2001-12-03 Thread Alexy Pallan

Dear Joynetters,
Thank God and at last we are here in Agra. We arrived on 29th November. As
we knew the submission (anti-abortion) which was raised by Adv. Thomas
Unniadan (MLA) and the reply by the State Health Minister Mr. P. Sankaran,
took place on 28th of November. We were silent all these days since we only
knew about the vague results from the Net and also from telephone calls.
But to the great surprise Sunny Chettan (Mr. Sunny Kattookkaran) has arrived
here in Agra just now with a copies of the submission presented by the MLA
and the reply of the Health Minister. It was really a goal for all of us in
bringing the Govt. to take necessary action against abortion and to set a
committee to monitor whether any abortions takes place legally or illegally
without the knowledge of the said committee, as this was one of the
suggestions which was put forward by us, Halleluiah ….. And the MLA who is
in the ruling front has assured to put our people (of course we are planning
to put JY) into the said committee. The Lord is great, and greatly to be
praised since with our joined venture HE made this matter into the notice of
the State Govt. of Kerala. We think there is no need to thank the
joynetters for the prayers but of course we thank a lot…lot…lot… for the
support, for the encouragement and for the eagerness you had shown which
bought this project into a success.

As a media coverage this news has come in some of the leading news papers
like The Mathrubumi, The Hindu, The Mangalam, The Madyamam etc..etc… and in
Doordarsan, Asianet, Kairaly and Surya. Here The Malayala Manorama daily,
Surya TV and Kairaly TV has promised to bring a feature in the coming days.
So keep in prayers so shall these promised features will come true so that
it may convince the human hearts.

As we know we achieved only a small percentage in this warfare against
quashing the MTP Act 1971 and our aim is to eradicate it cent percent. Let
us continue our warfare together with the help of Almighty.

And now the Lord has opened the doors to Delhi, the capital city of India
Halleluiah… through Rev. Fr. George Panakal VC. By tomorrow we are moving
to Delhi and again we ask for ur full prayer support continuously as we are
aiming to meet Mr. Cyril John, NST Chairman, with his help Mr. P.C. Thomas
M.P., cabinet minister Mrs. Menaka Gandhi and if possible our Honorable
President Sri. K.R. Narayan to discuss about this matter. We remind u that
we are taking our 3 kids along with us to Delhi, so pls keep in ur prayers
for our siblings.

[JOYnet] The best crib for Child Jesus on Christmas

2001-12-03 Thread Shobith Thomas

Hi All

Just a small thought for all of you on Christmas.Last
saturday the priest gave me this small little advice
which I would like to share with all of u.

We are all longing eagerly to have christ born in our
hearts. So we have now 25 days or to be from today 22
days.We have to prepare a crib for him in our hearts
to get him there.

We have to try get some good pieces of stone or
attractive pieces so that the may be willing to come
to the best one and sleep there.

Now what are these stones or the so called attractive
pieces.

They may be a helping hand, a prayer for someone else,
a good word, hard work, do something we find difficult,
forgiving others, loving others, giving a radiant
smile to someone in need, accepting others (eg the
article [JOYnet] You are precious by Berley Earnest),
to keep something off that we greatly desire (asha
adakkam), a small witness for christ.

As I was writing this a I made my crib attractive. My
Project Leader just now asked me what was my email Id
? I told him [EMAIL PROTECTED] He asked me what does
JY stand for and I told him that it stands for Jesus
Youth. He asked me whether I am close to christ and I
whether everything happens with the knowledge of
Christ.I who usually avoids this kind of questions had
the power from above to tell him a big Yes. Praise to
god

Yesterday I was able also by the "grace of God the
powerful work of the Holy Spirit and the intercession
of Mother Mary" to get a friend of mine a confession
before mass.

We have mass at 7.00 Am and I had reached at 6.55 and
found that he was leaving. He told me he wanted to make
confession (since the priest to whom he makes his
confessions was the one who was to celebrate the mass
was about get ready and as it was now 7:05 Am asked
him to wait )and I told him that if he had not
committed any grave sins he may recieve Christ
in the Eucharist. He was having doubt whether the sins
he committed were grave or not.

I told him to come along with me and as we went to the
priest I told the Lord that it was the thirst of a
child to recieve you and also implored the Holy Spirit
to work in the Priest .I had also asked our Lady to
intercede for him.Praise the Lord and a miracle
happened .He was able to complete a good confession
and receive christ. Now after the mass he told me that
it was his birthday and I realized what a miss it
would be if he had not recieved Christ.

These are all the small small Mercies of our Lord.

So let us all ardently work to make this a beautiful
christmas with each one of us trying to build the best
crib in our hearts.

With Love and prayers in the name of Jesus Mary and
Joseph

[JOYnet] MTP ?????????????

2001-12-03 Thread kripa joy

Dear friends ,

I am novice to the joynet network and I am totally impressed that such
controversial issues such as abortion are being openly discussed on the
network.

I think Lina's "anti-abortion: pro-mtp" stand is perfectly reasonable.I see
her point of view that scrapping the mtp act may not be a constructive move
towards stopping abortions .Infact scrapping the law might only make it
more dangerous for all involved in the abortion procedure.Repealing the law
would mean only that the mother's life might also be put in the balance
along with the child's, while with the law in existence, only the child's
life will be endangered.

I was also wondering if , as christians, our task was to inform and create
an awareness among people, because after all Jesus Christ in the incident
with prostitute did not try to amend or change the jewish law condemning the
prostitute to death by stoning ,but tried to change people's attitude
towards the same by stating that he who has not sinned shall cast the first
stone. The point that i am trying to convey is that, as christians, to change
a particular pratice in society the method to be adopted might be to
convince people rather than to amend the law. Extending the same to the
question of abortion, probably our mission should be to change people's
attitudes towards abortion rather than to repeal the law. Infact the former
might be the more effective way of dealing with the problem

dear rose,

thanks for the heartwarming letter. it was very sweet of you to write...i
am really touched[IMAGE].

about dowry, what can we do about it ? law's solution has been exhausted.
what remains is the people's initiative. what else can be done.[IMAGE]

that's where the jy could make a differenceany takers, guys?

(sorry if i have offended certain masculine sensibilities...of course i
know of quite a few jys who have refused taking dowry...so cool it,
guys!!! no offence meant to our precious jy brothers in Christ! [IMAGE])

People has taken it a status symbol now. If there's a marriage where
there's no dowry involved, people are really looking down at it. The
attitude is that if there's no dowry then there's something wrong with
the guy mentally or physically. And the worst thing is that the so called

[JOYnet] a humble suggestion

2001-12-03 Thread Lina Mathew

after reading our dear brother's mail, I express my profuse apologies for
perhaps expressing my views in what could be legalese for the layman,
hence the apparent difficulty in comprehending my stand. with regard to
the issues you have raised in this letter, I hope that a combined reading
of my initial letter and the next one addressed to sister Sherill on the
Joynet would clarify the doubt as to the position that can be reasonably
taken by law (not by man) on the issue of abortion as murder.

I have a most humble request to make to our Joynet brethren. maybe,
it would be wise that the response on these issues, be it a letter of
commendation or criticism on my view, should first be preceded by prayer
in the Holy Spirit. after all, only God knows what's right on this issue
of the legal stance to be taken. let's not be led astray by human wisdom
and undersanding.

on the one hand, there is  my view that the devil is practising deception
by making our JYs waste their precious time and efforts in courts of law
and legislative assemblies and such halls of men, ultimately toearn the
brand name of religious fundamentalists. on the other hand, the question
comes up, whether through the use and interplay of words and reason, I am
justifying the heinous crime of murder by abortion and the indifference
of law to it.

of course, it is natural that various members of our fraternity would
have the genuine doubt as to whether my words come from the Lord or from
the devil, as the latter fellow is well- known to be an extremely erudite
person, capable, through rhetoric and logic, of deceiving the populace
in fundamentals like basic respect for human life through the quoting of
the Scriptures( as I have done---"it is written...").

so it's upto those who have the Holy Spirit's gifts of discernment of
spirits, wisdom and knowledge, to find out what is the right path to
pursue, and the movement to have the will and His grace, most of all, to
do accordingly.

Love in Christ,

lina

absolutely lina!
i know what youu'retrying to say and i agree. i only
meant that despite how bleak chances maybe, we should
do what we think is right in God's eyes because
uultimately it is all in His hands and we will have to
answer to Him one day about the actions we did and
those we did'nt do. Sometmes thngs may not work out
the way we want them to. But i don't think God
expects us to change the world, i think He just wants
us to do our small part, the rest is not up to us, but
up to Him.
and yes, prayer is the most powerful weapon that we
have against the devil and his kingdom. let's all use
that optimally!

[JOYnet] JY Confernece 2001 - Dubai

2001-12-03 Thread Josh Gang

Hello Everyone
Yesterday we had a wonderful program at the Jebel-Ali St. Francis Assisi
church. For many of us it was the first visit to this church, very good one
too. In the main alter above the tabernacle is a painting of St. Francis of
Assisi hugging Jesus at the cross. Besides the church, there is another
hall, where we had our JY conference 2001, and classrooms on the ground
floor.
The parish priest Fr. John inaugurated the program. Being the first program
in the newly constructed parish hall Fr. John blessed the hall too. We had
praise and worship after this.
Shibu from Kozhikode gave the first talk. He asked all of us to make a move
to become the witnesses of Christ, and not to sit idle with the Good News
that is already given to us. He also shared from his own life experiences to
make this point clear to all of us, He appealed us to take up the
protections as well as the weapons given to us through this knowledge of
Jesus i.e. prayer, word of god, faith etc.
In the next session Babychayan gave us a talk on the practical aspects in
witnessing Jesus to all.
Next we moved to the church where Fr. John said the Holy Mass in which we
all partook.
After lunch we became five groups of which three groups gathered in the
class rooms on the ground floor and two in the main hall itself. The
discussions were aimed to build a happy and loving fellowship. We started
with introducing ourselves and then prayed and started the session. We had
an action song (Yesu tharum Anandham…J) which got everyone into a joyful
mood. In the first part of the group session we discussed in smaller groups
of three each about the miracles/wonders that JY did to our lives and then
in bigger groups of six each we discussed about the positives of JY and the
dreams and avenues that JY should aim at in the future. The heads of each
group of six later on reported to the whole group as to what all were
discussed in their group.
In the second part of the group session we went through the parable of the
prodigal son and reflected on it and tried to find out where we stood in
this parable. Various situations were listed out and the participants were
asked to tick out the situations in which they thought they were. The sheets
were collected back and we ended the group session with a short prayer and
moved back to the main hall.
We had the summing up of the groups by the group session co-ordinator Jacob
at the hall. We moved on to the adoration of the holy sacrament. The
adoration prayers where led by Fr. Abraham Kadikakuzhy and Br. Jose Kappil
assisted him. We kept all the sheets from the group session in front of the
holy sacrament thus symbolically surrendering our situations to the Lord.
We had an impressive music ministry, Hector, Alphonse, Praveen, Rani etc
were part of it. The hall was all ‘shook up’ when we sang the song “Blind
man sitting …Crippled man sitting …Jesus sitting.
The conference ended by 4.30. All of us took a pledge through this program
to keep the light that is given to us SHINING.
Thank you for all the prayer support. Please pray for our next major
program, which will be the initial retreat at Abu Dhabi for youth on the
15-17 of this month.
Regards and prayers
Abraham

[JOYnet] Reply to Lina's mail

2001-12-03 Thread rose antony

 dear lina,
it was a sensible mail.

and the example u had given was apt. "the Dowry Prohibition Act , through the
concerted efforts of all--both Christians and non Christians, has become a dead letter
law" So here's another point on which we should have a discussion on.

I wonder if we can do something about the evilish dowry system in our society. People
has taken it a status symbol now. If there's a marriage where there's no dowry
involved, people are really looking down at it. The attitude is that if there's no
dowry then there's something wrong with the guy mentally or physically. And the worst
thing is that the so called most literate state - 'Kerala' - stands atop among the
rest.

can we do something about it ?

Lina Mathew <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: dear sheril,

yes, i certainly do agree with you as a person who believes in Christ,
and as a human being, too. however, through my previous letter, i just
wanted to state how law can look at the issue--the balancing of interests
factor, and why we who believe so stongly on the issue of anti- abortion
should not get upset if we see apparent indifference from the legal
system.

let's all pray that by our concerted efforts, this barbaric practice of
abortion and the law permitting it becomes a dead letter law (the Dowry
Prohibition Act , through the concerted efforts of all--both Christians
and non Christians, has become a dead letter lawHence please do
understand that it is not law which can do anything, but the beliefs and
value systems of the people on which it is imposed) if we can rise up
to the challenge of convincing others that abortion is wrong, let's do it
whole - heartedly and with one voice. however ,especially because we are
Christians, remember that it is wrong to impose our views on others ,
even though we know are right and they are wronganyway, we can only
say ,'where sin increases, grace abounds more...'

we should certainly fight for our rights, but sometimes when such
fighting is futile, we should be wise enough to realise this, stop wasting
our time when when we reealise its futility, and instead direct our
energies towards fighting on a different plane altogether.('the effectual
prayer of a righteous man has great worth. elijah was a man lie we are;
he prayed that ift should not rain , and it did not rain for three years.
then he prayed that it should and it did rain' )

we know that we are the ultimate winners in spiritual warfare.if the
devil can beguile the minds of the population and confuse them so that
they exercise their freedom to choose evil which will lead to their
death, and being the prince of the world, he has power over those whose
eyes have been blinded to the gospel of Christ and basic common sense and
human rights or whatever you call it, then of course , we have the best
option of attacking the devil on a plane that he has been defeated long
ago...as Christians, we have failed to realise this right of ours for a
very long time, hence the devil had been granted a foothold for
generations to beguile people to exercise their freedom to practice of
various sins, like abortion, pornography, suicide, homosexuality,
euthanasia and so onit's just like what happened to Eve.God put a
tree in the garden and said do not eat its fruit.why did God put the tree
in there? why did He not guard the tree wit! h whatever angels with
spinning spears or swords or whatever , so that Eve could not eat the
fruit ? why did he allow the serpent to speak to Eve? if He was God ,
He could have prevented man from falling...understand the crux of the
matter--that God did not prevent man from exercising his freedom to
choose evil.

law can only try to balance the varous interests. and this balance
tends to tilt towards where the majority interests lie. hence the passing
of various human rights conventions to safeguard the minority interests.
i would humbly bring to your notice that so far no international
convention has been passed granting rights to the unborn. The Convention
on the Rights of the Child, 1989, mentions the word 'abortion' but grants
no rights to the unborn child against getting aborted. without a
consensus on this issue in the international level, i'm afraid that it
would be too much to expect anything concerted to come out of our
activities in the legal sphere out here.

it was the fault of previous generations of Christians all round the
world that human beings have been beguiled to pay scant respect to
life,so, now our task of convincing is very difficult, given the
existing social practices and literature on these issues which are for
and not against the the practice of human restraint and the voluntary
curbing of the freedom to choose what is considered to be bad according
to general moral standards of most societies and religions.as mentioned,
we have dissent with regard to the practice of abortion even within our
Christian communities itself. so, speaking on such i

[JOYnet] we're back....back as ONE !!

2001-12-03 Thread rose antony

 Dear friends,
Yeah….we are back…back as ONE.( Giju & Myself )

All credits to Suresh for that question and congrats to Lovely for making that wild
guess. You guys make us feel so special! Suresh we’re still waiting….how are u gonna
send it ? I’m talking about the tickets if u’ve forgotten ! In fact we’ve taken the
leave in advance!! And Welchy, thanks a lot for the snap!

Friends,Thanx a million for all your prayers and love. Everything went on well. The
Eucharistic celebration was just wonderful. We weren’t tensed for even a second. It
was a joyful moment. There were 4 wedding happening at the same time in the church and
we initially thought it would be a big confusion. In spite of the massive crowd and
the hot temperature everything went on so well by the grace of our dear God. After the
wedding we got a feedback that we were the only couple smiling throughout. Everyone
said we looked so happy and cool. Giju and my little sister were going on passing
comments during the ‘thali kettu’ (tying the knot) and somebody from behind asked me
to stand like a shy ‘manavaatty ‘(bride). The offertory was so meaningful and
beautiful. At the end, while my parents were leaving , all my relatives were sad that
there were no ‘crying session‘. We never felt a need for it coz’ all of us were so
happy for what the God had done to us.

It was not an accident, it was not just a wedding but a mighty plan of our dear God.
Nothing happened by chance but everything was pre-planned by HIM. He took time and had
prepared us well for the new life. He had chosen both of us to be together and to live
in his love according to his will. We realise the beautiful fellowship we are gifted
with, we praise God for the love we are sharing, for the good communication we are
enjoying. I believe that God has gifted us with a wonderful relationship. We believe
that we have a mission - to work for the kingdom of God. And we’ve started our little
family of 3 – Our dear God & Both of us. Keep us in your prayers to grow deeper in
HIM. Please pray that we could live our lives for HIM and not for us. I’m happy that
we are able to start everything with a prayer. Saturday we reached Madras and started
the new home and today morning we started the cooking. It was really great to cook and
eat and do all things together. I believe in every!
action we did we always had Jesus joining with us.

We were a bit sad to see that many of our friends couldn’t make it but I hope that all
of their prayers were there with us. Thanks a lot guys.

Love in Christ.

[JOYnet] A weird thought.

2001-12-03 Thread Alfred Samji

Hi. Just sharing a weird thought that came in my mind this morning.

When Judas betrayed the Lord for 30 silver coins the Lord had said that 'it
would have been better for Judas to not have been born'.
All this Judas did not knowing the consequences.

Then what about us. We all sin and thus betray the Lord by our sins for even
lesser worth. Wouldn't the same thing applied to Judas apply to every
sinner.

It is just a weird thought. We all know that His grace is far more than the
weight of our sins. Praise the Lord.

Regards in Christ,

Samji / Dubai
