Re: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests

2002-05-14 Thread James Abraham

Dear brotherssisters in Christ,

I was really glad to read the message from Mr. Edward. In the past few months
I had also this strong call to Pray for the Priests.especially for our
Popehis intentions we should pray daily. We should love, respectpray for
all the priest all over the world. It would be a good idea if we choose a
particular day of the week so that we can form an intercessory group to pray
for this intention.I usually choose Saturday as my special day to pray for
this intention coz along with Mother Mary(Whoelse is the best intercessor?.
I would strongly advice all out there to read the book Merciful Love to
Little Souls by Marguerrete. This contains beautiful messages by OUR LORD to
all of us regarding how our attitude should be to all our
dear priests
Loveprayers.

Hello Joynet Friends,

I am from Cochin, Kerala, India. These days I am mostly at my parents'
house
in the village, Kumbalanghi. The evenings are quite relaxed, with a long
dip
in the pond and sometimes a walk near the river side. At about 9pm I spend
quite some time in intercession. I pray for Jesus Youth all over,
especially
those with responsibilities in it and those who have asked for prayer. I
remember Joynetters and many faces in it and it goes on, International JY
conference in Canada, the Rex Band trip, etc are uppermost in my mind.

But one intention comes back to my mind again and again, that is, the need
for
urgent prayer for priests. The harvest is plentiful . . . . Pray the Lord
of
the harvest . . (Mt. 9: 37)

Let me share some of my thoughts so that a few of you readers may respond.

We have to pray for priests. Priesthood, I believe, is a wonderful
invention
of the Holy Spirit. I think of many great priests I know, some of them in
this
network, Joynet. Some Bishops are very close to my heart. I very well know
that one priest alive in Spirit is indeed a mighty force for the building
up
of the Kingdom. All over the world a great number of priests are doing this
wonderful work of God, and we have to pray for Priests. I do not pray for
these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word (Jn.
17:
20).

When I hear about failures in the life of some priest, I again say we have
to
pray for priests. They are called for a big mission and they have
responded.
They were set apart and were given support and training. But they are from
among us and need our support. While talking to a big group of priests two
weeks back, one of them was sharing from his heart, 'Sir, don't forget, we
are
human. We need your love and support'. We have to pray for priests.

I dream of a wide network of people who will love the Church, love the
priests
and earnestly pray for them. If two of you agree on earth about anything
they
ask . . . (Mt. 18:19). I can never do the wonderful amount of God's work
that
any single priest does. (Though sometimes some priests tell us that many of
us
Jesus Youth do much more than any of them, I believe that our effectiveness
comes from our sharing of the work of these priests.) Even if I cannot work
like a prist, I can surely have a share of the abundant graces of
priesthood
by loving and praying for priests. He who receives a prophet because he is
a
prophet shall recieve a prophet's reward. . . even a cup of cold water .
.
shall not lose his reward. (Mt. 10:41).

I don't have a complete idea, but we must have a network to specifically
PRAY
FOR PRIESTS. There has to be certain things that (i) each one in this
network
should do and (ii) certain things they do together as a body of
intercessors.

(i) Individually,

- Daily take time to remember priests with love and pray for them. = I
remember priests in general and then specifically think of the priests I
know
and life them to the Eternal Priest. And then I say a decade of the rosary
for
them.

- Love and respect priest. = I greatly value my relationship with priests.
It
is a great thing to know a priest. There is an age-old custom of kissing
the
hand of a priest. At times it is a little embarrassing, but I take great
joy
in kissing the hand of some of them.

- Try not to spread bad news about priesthood rather spread inspirational
tidings.

- Collaborate in whatever way possible with the good things that priests
are
doing.

and more . .

(ii) as a network called PRAY FOR PRIESTS,

would some of you like to give some ideas for me.

So, do pray for priests,

Eddy/Cochin/ India

Re: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests

2002-05-14 Thread Biji Thomas

Dear Friends,

Yes we should pray for the priests. It is our prayers that gives them strength
in their works. I would like to share something with my dear
joynetters.when i was studying for my first holy communion, Sr. Maggie who
taught us used to say that we should always pray for our Pope, Bishops,
Priests and Sisters and believe me knowinlgy or unknowingly i used to include
them in prayers after my communion till today. In my childhood days i
never knew much importance of this pray for the Priests.. but now i know the
importance of it.. how much valuable is this one small prayer for them. This
is a small prayer for priests from my prayer book which i would like to share
:

Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord,
Keep them, for they are Thine -
Thy priest whose lives burn out before
Thy consecrated shrine.
Keep them for they are in the world
Though from the world apart,
When earthly pleasures tempt, allure -
Shelter them in Thy heart.
Keep them, confort them in hours
Of loneliness and pain
When all their life of sacrifice
For souls seem but in vain.
Keep them, and O remember Lord
They have no one but Thee
Yet they have only human hearts,
With human frailty.
Keep them spotless as the Host,
That daily, they caress -
Their every though and word and deed,
Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

Yours in Jesus Christ

[JOYnet] Raising Priests and Nuns

2002-05-14 Thread biji james

Dear Friends,

In continuation with what Mr.Edward and Josun Jose
wrote, I would like to add one more intention
especially for Jesus Youth couples.

Why don't we pray, prepare and encourage one of our
own children to the vocation of becoming a priest or a
nun.

I do have the same desire for one of my child to
embrace this noble vocation.

saying.  I am also thinking evil thoughts about others.  PLEASE PRAY FOR

[JOYnet] Please check the book .....

2002-05-14 Thread Chackochen Njavallil

Please check the book .
Recently in the Joynet somebody had recommended
a book by
Bobby Jose kattikad. It said that the book is attracting the readers
interest very much,
within a few months the third eddition is being printed etc...

Till now I did not get the opportunity to go through
that book
or read any other articles by the same author . So I am not in a
position to
personally make an observation about that.

Then why I am writing this .
Recently in the Sunday Shalom Weekly, news papper , in
a
monthly colum which analyses the positives and negatives of current
Christian Malayalam Literature ,
Magazine Articles , there was a negative statement about the
ideas of the author .The main point was that it contains unchristian
and mainly Buddhist, ideology / ideas. Eventhough the redability is very

good , it may mislead the readers ,the writer was saying like this.
I request some of you to throw more light in
to this
 matter.

[JOYnet] News from Hospital ministry

2002-05-14 Thread Chackochen Njavallil

Hi friends,
We conducted a leaders training programme from April
30th-May 5th at Emmaus Ernakulam.40 participants attended the programme
who were the students and staff nurses from different institutions.
Initial 3days were of retreat and remaining 2days were of leaders
training. Retreat was mainly based on charisms and its
practical use. It helped them to identify their charisms and to get
basic training to use them. The second part of the programme helped
them to become more aware of the importence of prayer groups, how to
build a prayer group and how can it be strengthened to bear fruits. All
these lead the participans to take dicisions and to make specific plans
to reactivate their prayer groups and to take initiatives to reachout
nearby institutions.

[JOYnet] Re: Life is Beautiful !!!

2002-05-14 Thread jobin

Dear Suresh and all,

Nice to come back into the JoyNet.
A small job to keep and lot of work keeps
small fry like me busy all the day long.

I do share and appreciate what my dear friend
Suresh has to tell us about Life.

It is beautiful.

I happened to have a friendly chat with one of my
family friends the other day... I asked him, hows life...
He said...ya..good...kind of..pulling along
sort of...moving forward

I said..what do you mean..???!!
He then says Nothing much..First 20 days of the month
we go in full swing (he is speaking in monetary terms).
Then the next 10 days we go in neutral gear.
That kept me thinking.

This guy, supposed to be a techinical person working
in India's leading and premier research organisation,
drawing a five figure salary, good home, good wife, good kid..

Why does he have to tell like that..
Life is moving forward...pulling along ;-)

Each person sees the life in his own perspective.
Every guy has his own problems. Every guy however high he is
in position, authority or responsibility has.. his own problems.

Learning to cope with that is what is important.
I am doing that now. It was not before...

We can end up saying Life is Beautiful. But it will not be always.
And we have to make it onemake it one..

Sorry for boring you with this

Will mail later.
As I said before..nice to be back..

Lots of love, wishes and prayers..

This is Jobin signing off from the world's hottest city of the season-Chennai.
Temperature touches as high as 46 deg.~!!!

 Hi friends,
 Life is beautiful !!!

 Why life is beautiful
There are many things coming into mind.. let me start with few
 experiences...

Everywhere it is War Terrorism and war against Terrorism
CNN, BBC, Sky news, Foxnews or any Tv channels you get this peice
of news... India you get Gujrat, Middle east you get Palestine issues,
Nepal you get Maoists, Sri Lanka you get Tamil issues, Taliban, IRA,
Al Fatah, Jihad, Hamas, Japaneese Red Armay, ETA, PKK, list is going on...
If you take religions there also problems, In kerala itself we have
time long issues on various things like liturgy, etc, politics is
hopeless anywhere... Globalism, International trade, World bank, etc.
Attack on a building in New York is affecting a family in the remote
village of Assam or Bihar but same time a million dollar profit for
the neighbor might not give that family any benefit.. Everywhere
you can see unrest among the people. Still life is beautiful

Like to share few things coming into Mind. We Joynet members
are scattered all around the world. unless like other JY communities
we are not from a particular place, job or situation... many of us
are alone in their country or City (I mean no other Jy's around).
this part of sharing specially for them... for my friends who are away
from their home, far away from their parents and loving ones.

No Man can Live as an Island
 Journeying through the life alone

Last few days I was feeling so lonely... Where else can we share
all this feelings... Being in this community for more than 3 years
I feel this is the place we can get the real love, help, spiritual
support etc. My job is like operating from my house itself
and not much works always so in literal meaning here I am alone.
That's is the reason these days thinking the worthiness of
being with friends, Being in a Community, Being with family etc.

God created this world in a beautiful harmony...Where we all can
live as a community...where nobody is alone...Family ties are most
important in our life. My father, Mother, their sufferings
for me, How they managed to support all our way, They gave
everything for us, My sister, brother, their love for me,
How much they care for me... (My wife, kids don't know
how to explain this part... Some married guys can explain)...
Yes experincing all this... Life is beautiful... Something
 very beautiful right

Friends - My memories going back to college days, The
friendships we will remember till the end of our life
My college days I got my best friends... still we are best
friends and when ever in kerala I spend my time with them.
Those days we worked for Jesus youth with whole heart.
We have a three men Army there me, James Binu (we are
best freinds for last 12 years) Last month I went to
home for just two days out of that one day I spend time
with these JY friends... yes life is beautiful...

Today I am stopping here with a small prayer.

LORD JESUS I THANK YOU FOR MY PARENTS, BROTHERS SISTERS,
THANK YOU FOR THE LOVING FRIENDS AND COMMUNITIES AROUND ME.
WHEN I AM ALONE BE WITH ME AS MY FATHER, MOTHER, SISTER
 (HUSBAND,WIFE)

The Hail Mary of a Protestant
(A true story)

A little six-year-old Protestant boy had often heard his Catholic
companions reciting the prayer Hail Mary. He like it so much
that he copied it,memorized it and would recite it every day.
Look, Mommy, what a beautiful prayer, he said to his mother one
day.

Never again say it, answered the mother. It is a superstitious
prayer of Catholics who adore idols and think Mary a goddess.
After all, she is a woman like any other. Come on, take this Bible
and read it. It contains everything that we are bound to do and
have to do. From that day on the little boy discontinued his
daily Hail Mary and gave himself more time to reading the Bible
instead.

One day, while reading the Gospel, he came across the passage
about the Annunciation of the Angel to Our Lady. Full of joy, the
little boy ran to his mother and said: Mommy, I have found the
'Hail Mary' in the Bible which says: 'Hail full of grace, the Lord
is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women.' Why do you call it
a superstitious prayer?

On another occasion he found that beautiful Salutation of St.
Elizabeth to the Virgin Mary and the wonderful canticle MAGNIFICAT
in which Mary foretold that the generations would call her
blessed. He said no more about it to his mother but started to
recite the Hail Mary every day as before. He felt pleasure in
addressing those charming words to the Mother of Jesus, our
Savior.

When he was fourteen, he one day heard a discussion on Our Lady
among the members of his family. Every one said that Mary was a
common woman like any other woman. The boy, after listening to
their erroneous reasoning could not bear it any longer, and full
of indignation, he interrupted them,saying:
Mary is not like any other children of Adam, stained with sin.No!
The Angel called her FULL OF GRACE AND BLESSED AMONGST WOMEN. Mary
is the Mother of Jesus Christ and consequently Mother of God.
There is no higher dignity to which a creature can be raised. The
Gospel says that the generations will proclaim her blessed and you
are trying to despise her and look down on her. Your spirit is not
the spirit of the Gospel or of the Bible which you proclaim to be
the foundation of the Christian religion.

So deep was the impression which the boy's talk had made that his
mother many times cried out sorrowfully: Oh my God! I fear that
this son of mine will one day join the Catholic religion, the
religion of Popes! And indeed, not very long afterwards, having
made a serious study of both Protestantism and Catholicism, the
boy found the latter to be the only true religion and embraced it
and became one of its most ardent apostles.

Some time after his conversion, he met his married sister who
rebuked him and said indignantly: You little know how much I love
my children. Should any one of them desire to become a Catholic, I
would sooner pierce his heart with a dagger than allow him to
embrace the religion of the Popes!

Her anger and temper were as furious as those of St. Paul before
his conversion. However, she would change her ways, just as St.
Paul did on his way to Damascus. It so happened that one of her
sons fell dangerously ill and the doctors gave up hope of
recovery. Her brother then approached her and spoke to her
affectionately, saying: My dear sister, you naturally wish to
have your child cured. Very well, then, do what I ask you to do.
Follow me, let us pray one 'Hail Mary' and promise God that, if
your son recovers his health, you would seriously study the
Catholic doctrine, and should you come to the conclusion that
Catholicism is the only true religion, you would embrace it no
matter what the sacrifices may be.

His sister was somewhat reluctant at the beginning, but as she
wished for her son's recovery, she accepted her brother's proposal
and recited theHail Mary together with him. The next day her son
was completely cured. The mother fulfilled her promise and she
studied the Catholic doctrine.

After long preparation she received Baptism together with her
whole family, thanking her brother for being an apostle to her.
The story was related during a sermon given by the Rev. Fr.
Tuckwell.
Brethren, he said, The boy who became a Catholic and converted
his sister to Catholicism dedicated his whole life to the service
of God. He is the priest who is speaking to you now! What I am I
owe to Our Lady. You, too, my dear brethren, be entirely dedicated
also to Our Lady and never let a day pass without saying the
beautiful prayer, 'Hail Mary',and your Rosary. Ask her to
enlighten the minds of Protestants who are separated from the true
Church of Christ founded on the Rock (Peter) and 'against whom the
gates of hell shall never prevail.'

[JOYnet] Fwd: Belated Happy Mother's Day!

2002-05-14 Thread Thomas Mathew

From: Osman Luis Casipit Ranit To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Belated Happy Mother's Day! Date: Tue, 14 May 2002 20:26:16
+ Dear Father Thomas, Glad to hear from you. Thanks for the
email on 'mother,' it digs deep into one's heart especially when one's
mother is gone. There seems to be a void in one's soul especially when
she's gone. Of course, I feel happy she has found peace since I see her
in my dreams dressed in a white robe with carnations and white roses
around her feet. I do not see the red roses anymore that I used to give
her and place in vases on top of her piano. They have all turned white.
I see her beconning to me always as if saying come and I keep on
saying not too soon and then she smiles. I guess she understands, I
still have a family to take care of, then I pray for her peace and she
fades away. For those who still have their mother's, hold them tight and
always express your joy to them. Sometimes, you may never have the
chance to do it again, believe me. It happened to me. Cheers and best
wishes. Louie

This morning I greeted my Mother Happy Mother's Day. In the evning I
might accompany her for dinner or will be with my brothers for dinner to
honor the mothers in my family. The mother of Jesus,at Cana in Galilee, instructed
those waiting on table do whatever he tells you John 2,5. Jesus  gave a
wonderful Mother's Day gift to his Mother Mary and that was the first
miracle of Jesus Jesus performed this first of his signs at Cana in
Galilee John2.11. Today the 12th of May, we celebrate Mother's Day, a
special day set apart to honor all the mothers from Eve to you the new
mother. I wish all the Mothers, Happy Mother's Day It is an honor to be
a mother and to have a mother.   Mother is the other name for
love. Mothers give life,  nurture life, protect and foster life on the
earth.  When I see the mothers carrying their children  and walk to the
Alter for blessing and or for Holy communion, I say, it is not fun to be
with unruly children and to love them. At the peaceful arms of the
mother, the children are lulled to sleep. Then they are quiet. They look
like saints in the church when they sleep in their mom's arms, I say to
myself . It is the most wonderful miracle on this earth, to see the
unruly children in the Church and outside to be quiet in the arms of
their mothers.  This morning, at the Church, a young couple brought
their son for blessing. That boy has told me I have prepared a special
gift for my mother and I asked him to tell me about that gift. He looked
at the mother  and said HushNow  I can't tell you Father Mathew, my
mom will hear. It is a surprise He  whispered to me   I have painted a
beutiful Rose flower . Colored Red for my Mom and my dad asked me to do
that. But the mother over heard. She gave him  and his dad a big hug and
a kiss and I heard the little boy say Thank you Mom, I love you and
they left the Church. A mother loves her children and sacrifices
everything for them. She grows grey with her children, her spouse and the
rest of the family.  Mothers forgive faster and hides the mistakes
of their children and prays for them. Yesterday a mother told me I am in
the church to pray for my chiildren. She prayed hard during the evening
Mass. Before she went home she asked me to pray for two of her sons in a
special way.  The mother sees everything. She feels the need of
herchildren and offers everything. She earns and sacrifices wealth,
health and everythign she has for her children and family. I spoke with a
mother last sunday at a First Holy Communion and she said You know I am
very happy today. I was able to arrange a party for my son on his First
Holy Communion.

[JOYnet] Vocations a must, from us?

2002-05-14 Thread FS HS

Dear Bro's and Sis's in Lord Jesus Christ, God Bless u All. Wonderful it
is Vocations . I do appreciate and come into the same conclusion of
what Biji James had shared on the same. As per my opinion, If my Lord
gives me children, I am supposed to bring them up as per Jesus's plan and
not mine, and I am ready 'Praise God', If my Lord asks me all the
children for His mighty work, I would not hesitate to do that. I really
appreciate people who practice more than talks. Please do pray for me,
that thru out my life I would be a burning candle for all and to accept
the Will of God, whatever difficulties I might face. Please do keep my
family in prayers. Thks. One more point I love to add now. The
church many times is in confused state. The Vocations r becoming less and
many other problems. Many have joined vocations for many selfish reasons.
We finally critizise them. R we praying for our church sincerely? Sorry
if there is anything wrong in what I have added in.Praise God Ur's Bro in

[JOYnet] Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whom the Lord considers sinless Ps.32.1

2002-05-14 Thread Thomas Mathew

I remember talking to a wonderful man Mr. White ( real name is withheld)
during  my  recent visit to the Gulf countries. He is a good catholic and
at one point I got the feeling that he is more catholic than Christ
himself.  Mr. White has an attitude problem and that is his strict
attitude towards the law.  He is a perfectionist and demands perfection
from his family but he expects forgiveness from God without any condition
and he knows that God forgives every time he asks for forgiveness.

Mrs. White and their three children  struggled  with Mr. White in a
hostile family atmosphere. He appeared  pious and holy but his anger and
arrogance at home was phenomenal.  During our communication I  tried to
enable him to be in touch with his feelings but he kept saying  “ But
father, the Church teaches” and at last I said   “think about what does
God say about this” and I send him home with the assignment.  He ret!
urned and said “Please tell me father what  God  says”. I was least
surprised.  We opened the Bible and, I started reading Ps.32.   I said to
myself the following verse might help Mr. White. The message for Mr.
White was  “Happy are those whose crimes are forgiven, Whose sins are
blotted out, happy the man whom the Lord considers sinless” Ps 32.1-2.

Strict adherence to the law might have made him a blind follower of the
law.  He got tired of following the letter of the law and yet he couldn’t
find a way out of that situation. I mentioned “A person is justified in
Faith and not by doing something that the law prescribes” Romans 3.28. He
stared at me and said “ But father the teaching of the church.” he
continued.   I said to myself “he appears to be more catholic than the
pope”. Law became a monster for him, even  blocking the vision of God and
I said  “God’s love is beyond the law”. H! e listened and that was the
point of salvation for his family.

We are the beloved and the beautiful handiwork of God. God created us by
his holy hands. “We are God’s work of art” Ep.2.10 and we are conceived
in God, not in man or by man willing it. “God created man in his own
likeness, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created
them”Gen.1.27. God created us and blessed us “God blessed them ”
Gen.1.28.

Man is justified in Christ

Man is justified by faith in Jesus. “Because it is by grace that you are
saved by faith” Eph 2.9. We are not saved by what the law prescribes. The
law is a good guide. It instructs us about right and wrong. “All that the
law does is to tell us what is sinful” Rom.3.20.  We are educated in the
law. But salvation comes from and through Jesus. “He brought us to life
with Christ” Ep.2.5 “ and gave us a place with him in Heaven, in Christ
Jesus” Ep.2.6. Jesus is the way to the Father in heaven. “Through him,
our way to come to the Father” Eph.18. Jesus is the way to salvation and
happiness. We are “Justified through the free gift of his grace by being
redeemed in Christ Jesus” Romans3.24.

We have seen that our salvation is not by being strict observers of the
law. When we state that justification is by faith, we do not abolish the
law. Jesus himself said, “I didn’t come to abolish the law but to fulfill
the law”. St. Paul has said that he is not rejecting the law by
establishing salvation by faith in Jesus. Paul has ratified the law. “Do
we mean that faith makes the law pointless? Not at all. We are giving the
Law its true value” Romans 3.31

Very often we tend to forget that the law is only an instruction. The law
doesn’t by itself guarantee salvation. Justification is in Jesus alone. “
A man is justified by faith and not by doing something the law prescribes”
Rom3.28.  Abraham was justified by faith. “Abraham has put his faith in
God, and this faith was considered as justifying him”Romans.4.3. By his
trust in the Lord, Abraham found justification “ Abraham put his faith in
Yahweh, who counted this as making him justified” Gen.15.6. God is our
point of departure and salvation  is not in the strict observation of the
law.

Coming to our day-to-day lives, many of us follow the letter of the law.
We fail to see the importance of the law. The law is to fulfill the
commands of God. God is love. God is light. God is merciful. God is
forgiving. But we may say, “ I have given you three chances and you
failed. You are out”.  Think about the times we are and were insensitive
to the feelings of the people at our home, by being loyal to the laws.
Most of the time, the in-fights in our families are because of our
insensitivity to the members in the family. We are very loyal to the laws
although we may not follow them. Many of us appear to be the guar! dians
of the law, not followers of Jesus’ new commandment of love. The laws are
man made. They might help us to attain God if we know that salvation is
in and through Jesus.  I am not discounting discipline in life; rather,
my intention is to appreciate the mercy and goodness of our God. “Love
each other as I have loved
