And I experience something similiar with Thunderbird. Some threads are
kept together, but others are kept separate. I assume that has
something to do with how you post mails here. Maybe if you post via
the groups web interface headers get messed up...

I don't use Outlook, but threading works fine for me using Thunderbird on
Windows XP for this list.

One thought, choose one of the replies from this list and view the headers for it -- does
it have the In-Reply-To header? If not, then your SMTP server (or email
gateway) is stripping that header out, which is used for threading.

Thanks for the tip, Bil...

I'll check out the header!

(But if that is the problem, wouldn't it affect other lists?)

Are the other lists also served via GoogleGroups? Are they sent to your SMTP
server in the same way as this list?

Without knowing your particulars, I was allowing for the possibility that this
list was somehow handled differently than the rest of your lists (e.g. the
messages are delivered by way of a gmail account that is then forwarded to your
Outlook account, or e.g. all the other lists are not served via GoogleGroups,
pointing a finger at something GoogleGroups is doing).

I've been battling this Outlook threading issue for a while. I have the
In-Reply-To headers, but it makes no difference.

Sorting by Conversation is the best method I've found, but the original
message is still not grouped with the original message.

The problem seems to be that Outlook really doesn't do proper threading.
It's a bit of a PITA that you can't seem to configure Google Groups to put
the RE: before the [jQuery] header.

The way Gmail view emails as conversations really works for me. There may be
100 posts on a particular thread, but it only shows up as one line in my
inbox. I have an account on a Zimbra server that's also able to view the
inbox either as a list of individual emails or as conversations. I thought
outlook could do that too (well, full blown outlook, not express).

None of the other lists are served by googlegroups... (I don't think)

Mysql, CF-Talk, SPF List... they all come through
my mail server here in my studio and none have the
grouping/header problem.

Hi, Chris.

I'm using Outlook 2007 and it does what you describe

for Gmail.

And my other mailing lists don't have the grouping problem

that this list does.
