Here is what I want:

I get this error:

which makes sense

What are my alternatives to using a variable as above, when my page to =

Re: JSP/WML

2000-06-21 Thread Ritesh Sinha

WML is just a markup language for WAP devices. But You can use JSP for WAP.
Taking care of issues like the content type.
You hav to use following encoding :text/vnd.wap.wml; charset=ISO-8859-1
There may be some issues specific to some servers, used for WML
conversion/development.

Hi,
Please check the Modules subdirectory. in all probablities, the dll is
already there. When I down loaded Apache/Jserv/Tomcat , the required dll
was there. Other wise i have never been able to download the file

In the Apache httpd.conf add
#include C:\ApacheTomcat\jakarta-tomcat\conf\tomcat.conf
include C:\ApacheTomcat\jakarta-tomcat\conf\tomcat-apache.conf

Both of these lines work for me. The tomcat-apache.conf is created when
Tomcat starts up.
I could not decide form the documentation which was the suggested one.

In tomcat.conf add
# Tell Apache on win32 to load the Apache JServ communication module
LoadModule jserv_module modules/ApacheModuleJServ.dll

NB - you have to download ApacheModuleJServ.dll from the Tomcat site and
put
it into say c:\Apache\modules - other dll's live there.

Start Tomcat and then Apache.

hope this helps,

Re: Accessing server

One thing I would Like to stress, here is that , JSWDK is good for
developing , but not for Deploying.
For Deploying , You need something as good as Apache. And for Apache to run
JSP, you need Tomcat.

Not Necessary.
U can run the examples on u'r local machine by using the StartServer
batchfile
which u can find it under the root of jswdk directory / U can use the Java
Webserver.

Hi All

I ran into this article while going thru' our company's news group
---
---

Have a look at the wrapper on a
Coca-Cola 1.5 litre bottle and in the ingredients label you will find
phosphoric acid in it. Minute quantities of ethylene glycol is also used

(which is acknowledged in the soft drink world for making it really
chill").
This is popularly known as anti-freeze which prevents water from
freezing at
0 deg C and instead drops it by 4-5 degrees with minute quantities.

This chemical is a known slow poison in the caliber of arsenic. So, if
you
manage to drink about 4 litres of Coke within an hour or so, you can
die.

Read along and give up these dangerous things. Be natural, have
flavoured
milks, tender coconuts, butter milk, lassi and plain water instead of
these
"soft" drinks. Guess what's the pH for soft drinks, e.g. Coke? pH 3.4!
This
acidity is strong enough to dissolve teeth and bones! Our human body
stops
building bones at the age of about 30. Soft drinks do not have any
nutrition value (in terms of vitamins &minerals). It is high in sugar
content, carbonic acid, chemicals i.e.colorings etc.

Some like to take cold soft drinks after each meal. Guess what's the
impact? Our body needs an optimum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius for
digestive enzyme functioning. The temperature of cold soft drinks is
very
much below 37 degrees or even close to 0 degrees Celsius. This will
dilute
the enzymes & stress the digestive system. The food taken will not be
digested. In fact it will be fermented! The fermented food produces
gases, decays and becomes toxin, gets absorbed by the intestine,
circulates
in the blood stream and is carried to the whole body. Hence toxin is
cumulated in other parts of the body, developing into various diseases.

Think before you drink coke/Pepsi (or any soft drink) again. Have you
ever
thought what you drink when you drink an aerated drink? You gulp down
carbon dioxide, when nobody in the world would advise you to drink CO2.
Two
months back, there was a competition at Delhi University - Who could
drink
the most Coke?" The winner drank 8 bottles and fainted on the spot-too
much
CO2 in the blood. Thereafter, the principal banned all soft drinks from
the
college canteen ! While this might have been an extreme measure, the
results do provide some food for thought.

Did you know that soft drinks use chemicals in them that cause immense
harm
to you. Someone put a broken tooth in a bottle of Pepsi and in 10 days
it
DISSOLVED! Can you believe it? Teeth and bones are the only human parts
that stay intact for years after death. Imagine what the drink must be
doing to your soft intestines and stomach lining! Request to All :
Forward
this message to your friends to increase the awareness of the great
"Assumed soft drinks". In India, people hesitate to pay Rs.7-8/- for a
tender coconut but prefer to pay Rs. 10/- and drink these deadful
products.

cheer up no thumps up
khem,

Hi Ritu,
Speed also depends on the Webserver that you are using. For Example If you
use Apache on Windows, the Documentation says its slow.
But You bet nothing beats LINUX/APACHE/JSP team.On Windows IIS is Faster,
but Again you lose the advantage of JSP speed( As compared to ASP).

Hi Sudhir,
What i am going to say will not be the exact solution but it will just show
you how to make use of JSP to best of its capability.
Try putting all your database related metods in a bean and use that bean ,
rather than putting everything in your JSP.
I have a very simple bean that we used to do all the Database related
activities. YOu may need to add some more functions which you may do .
If you need that bean, mail me separately.

Hi Ritesh,

I know that JSP compiles into a servlet and that servlet is called.
But since i read it and i have one point because of which i was in doubt.
The point is if i create jspInit() routine in the JSP declaration

<%!
public void jspInit()
{
  // Your Code
}
%>

The code in jspInit() gets executed everytime i load a JSP Page whereas in
servlets
the init routine is executed only once when the servlet is loaded first
time.
Any subsequent requests to servlet page won't execute init routine

Please Clarify...

Hi Ritesh,

I know that JSP compiles into a servlet and that servlet is called.
But since i read it and i have one point because of which i was in doubt.
The point is if i create jspInit() routine in the JSP declaration

<%!
public void jspInit()
{
  // Your Code
}
%>

The code in jspInit() gets executed everytime i load a JSP Page whereas in
servlets
the init routine is executed only once when the servlet is loaded first
time.
Any subsequent requests to servlet page won't execute init routine

Please Clarify...

Re: JSP Disadvantage ??

2000-05-04 Thread Ritesh Sinha

Hi Nitin,
I think you have to go to a little depth of JSP. Its not that JSP is loaded
every time it is requested.
A JSP when compiled for the first time, is converted to "SERVLET" . So that
ways there is no difference between a JSP and a servlet. this servlet is
then compiled and use as any other normal servlet. The performance dip is
encountered only for the first time. Then onwards any JSP is jsut like any
servlet.
If you are using jswdk... then just check the folder "work" you'll see
servlets corresponding to each of your JSP.
I hope i have been able to clarify on your query,
Any further questions, suggestions are welcome.

I read that everytime user requests for a JSP page , a seperate object is
created and loaded into memory. Is it true ?
If yes, then this the biggest disadvantage as compared to servlets which is
loaded into memory only once and for every request from user spwans a
seperate thread.

<%@page import="util.*" %>
<%jsp:usebean id="props" class="PropertyFileBean" %>
<%jsp:setProperty name="props" property="FileName" param="df" %>

But I am getting an error that the JSP engine is not able to locate the

classpath.

I am using javawebserver2.0.

Anyone out there recommend a genuine IDE for JSP? I don't mean like
HomeSite which I already use. I need more than keyword coloring, I
want the edit/compile/run-in-debug loop. While developing beans in
Cafe, J++, or JBuilder all provide symbolic debugging, breakpoints, etc.

The JSP translation to a Java source, the compile and then class loading
seem to make this sort of loop impossible. Has anyone (Oracle 8i?,
IBM Websphere, JRun?) implemented this classic development loop?

At least gimme an environment where the line number reported by the
Java compile can be easily traced back to the JSP source line! Yeah, yeah,
I know: keep the Java in the JSP simple and you don't have this problem.
Right!

Hi Nishi,
You sure can write XML in JSP file. Infact thats on of hte targets of JSP.
TO write XML in JSP you have to set the content type to (text/xml) . To

Hi folks,
I think you can see the code generated for the servlet in the "work"

Looking at the code generated there provides good enough idea of what goes
on in a servlet generated from a JSP.
I have not come across any documentation that says any thing about the
structure of the servlet.

Hi,
JSP specification provides little infomation on how the jsp page is
translated and compiled in servlets. It also tells how you can define the
member functions or member variables of the resulting jsp.
But best way is to decompile the resulting servlet and see its code.
Though I have not done this, if you get any info do let me know
