[plasma-nm] [Bug 464214] Some of the Wireless network details are wrong
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464214 --- Comment #1 from John --- Using IWD's iwctl tool and inside the command: station wlan0 show Gives for the 2.4 GHz band something like: https://imgur.com/8BSfBBg And for the 5 GHz band something like: https://i.imgur.com/JSOWcwj.png It looks to me that Plasma network de details takes its "Connection speed" value from this TxBitrate but it's very far away from the maximum connection speed that the network can sustain. Unfortunately I have only a 100 Mbps internet connection to test but these are the results of speed tests... Done on the 2.4 GHz band: https://i.imgur.com/QeVH0Z1.png And on the 5 GHz band: https://i.imgur.com/3F7OV7U.png So the current 1 MBit/s for the 2.4 GHz band and 6 MBit/s are clearly not true an nowhere near to the reality in both download and upload speed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasma-nm] [Bug 464214] New: Some of the Wireless network details are wrong
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464214 Bug ID: 464214 Summary: Some of the Wireless network details are wrong Classification: Plasma Product: plasma-nm Version: 5.26.5 Platform: Debian unstable OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: applet Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: ilikef...@waterisgone.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 155248 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=155248=edit Network details on the 5 GHz band, with WPA2-PSK authentication type SUMMARY Some of the Wireless network details are wrong. To be more exact these are: - Security type Connection speed STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Switch from WPA Supplicant to IWD, if on Debian, following Debian's tutorial here: https://wiki.debian.org/NetworkManager/iwd 2. Reboot to make sure everything has been restarted properly 3. Connect to your wireless network, from iwctl, like in the tutorial at step 1 4. Open the networks widget from the System tray 5. Click on the connected network 6. Click on the Details tab OBSERVED RESULT Security type shows as: Unknown security type compared to WPA2-PSK (on default WPA Supplicant) Connection speed shows as: 1 MBit/s fo a 2.4 GHz network and 6 MBit/s for a 5 GHz network (both same as on default WPA Supplicant) EXPECTED RESULT 1.) About security type: The Security type should show WPA2-PSK, as on WPA supplicant, when this is the security type used. Since nothing was changed on the router side regarding the security type, changing from WPA Supplicant to IWD should show the same thing. 2.) About connection speed: The connection speed should show any value up to 300 MBit/s for the 2.4 GHz band and up to 433 MBit/s for the 5 GHz band SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0 Qt Version: 5.15.7 OS: Debian 12 Kernel: 6.1.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.4-1 (2023-01-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Router used for testing: Archer C20 v1 0002: Which should have a maximum speed of 300 Mbps, on 2.4 GHz band and 433 Mbps, on 5 GHz band: https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-c20/ Transmit power set to High and the laptop 3 meters away, in direct view, no obstacles in between. 2.4 GHz band set to b/g/n mixed (there's no n only) put on a a little overlapping channel. 5 GHz band set to 11a/n/ac (there's no ac only) put on a channel that is not overlapping any other network as it's the only 5 GHz network around. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Elisa] [Bug 462491] New: Elisa Player Removes Support for Vorbis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462491 Bug ID: 462491 Summary: Elisa Player Removes Support for Vorbis Classification: Applications Product: Elisa Version: 22.08.3 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: matthieu_gall...@yahoo.fr Reporter: kdelo...@mozej.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Elisa removed support for open source vorbis muic files. The music is not present in albums nor artist etc at the left side. Elisa scans folders, but doesn't add ogg vorbis files at all (.ogg created with oggenc from vorbis-tools) and completely ignores them. If you put .flac in the album folder surprisingly elisa scans and sees the .flac music files, but not vorbis. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Tryout I: 1. Fire up elisa, wait for it to scan folders (cannot be turned if nothing changes, i.e. not music added ?) 2. No music in Elisa Tryout II: 3. Fire up elisa, wait for sanning to finish 4. Use Elisa menu to reset the database and rescan folders OBSERVED RESULT No music (vorbis .ogg created with oggenc from vorbis-tools) in Elisa. Elisa doesn't support ogg vorbis. Elisa supports FLAC (.flac) music files, though. EXPECTED RESULT Elisa must support free and open source formats, like ogg vorbis from xhiph. Elisa may not intentionally skip open source format in Music folders and not show them, while at the same time promoting non-free softwear like AAC. While I bother reporting the bug: P.S. Last time I created bug report on bugs.kde.org there was intentional repack version of kimageformats that removed open source formats/encoder like aviff, despite various aviff.so beging present throughout the system. This is the second time I see KDE removes open source software while promoting non-free, non-libre software (AAC, HEVC, etc.). This is unacceptable. Someone please stop sabbotaging KDE Plasma and KDE gears and libraries. [valgrind] [Bug 461855] (wine xsavec64) vex amd64->IR: unhandled instruction bytes: 0x48 0xF 0xC7 0xA1 0xC0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x48 0xF
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461855 --- Comment #2 from John Reiser --- Further investigation reveals that this bug may be invalid. Also, the original poster on the [valgrind-developers] mailing list omitted or did not emphasize important details. First, the OP used valgrind-3.15.0 (valgrind/focal-updates,now 1:3.15.0-1ubuntu9.1 amd64) which is an ancient version. The current valgrind version is 3.21; so the used version is at least 6 years old. In particular, valgrind-3.15 does not print the instruction stream bytes that correspond to an unrecognized instruction. Knowing these bytes is a great help. The OP should build valgrind-3.21 from source, then re-run. Next, the supposedly-reproducible test case "valgrind --trace-children=yes wine64 a.out.so > temp.out 2>&1" runs wine64, which requires an actual "install" of Microsoft Windows (probably version 10). This can be seen by careful examination of the temp.out when using valgrind-3.21: = grep Command: temp.out ==19914== Command: wine64 a.out.so ==19914== Command: /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64-preloader /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64 a.out.so ==19916== Command: /opt/wine-stable/bin/wineserver ==19919== Command: /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64-preloader /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64 C:\\windows\\syste m32\\wineboot.exe --init - - - - - grep preloader temp.out ==19914== Command: /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64-preloader /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64 a.out.so preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 0011-6800 ==19919== Command: /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64-preloader /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine64 C:\\windows\\syste m32\\wineboot.exe --init preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 0011-6800 - - - - - grep err: temp.out 0024:err:environ:run_wineboot failed to start wineboot 4003 = Because I don't have Windows installed, then most of the output from memcheck (total 7622 lines) complains about bad usage of Windows-reserved memory by ntdll.so. And because wine64 was not installed with debug symbols, then most of the tracebacks have scant information. My version of wine is: = $ dpkg --list | grep wine ii wine-stable7.0.1~bullseye-1 amd64WINE Is Not An Emulator - runs MS Windows programs ii wine-stable-amd64 7.0.1~bullseye-1 amd64WINE Is Not An Emulator - runs MS Windows programs ii wine-stable-i386:i386 7.0.1~bullseye-1 i386 WINE Is Not An Emulator - runs MS Windows programs ii winehq-stable 7.0.1~bullseye-1 amd64WINE Is Not An Emulator - runs MS Windows programs = So, the OP should 1) Build and use current valgrind-3.21. 2) Install debug symbols for wine64. 3) Realize that this use case may well be outside the domain of memcheck. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

AVIF support has benn removed from KDE, wich affects SDDM, wallpaper rendering and lock screen (all 3 suddeny gone from my system). The code for libre software- AVIF had been removed, hoping that nobody will notice deleting. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add Avif wallper 2. Add SDDM Avif picture 3. Use Avif for Lock Screen OBSERVED RESULT Can't render, reverts back to other stock wallpapers after KDE update (update had regression) EXPECTED RESULT The Avif code had to be removed on purpose. Observe the people (promoting non-libre HEVC) and reinstate AVIF support into kdeimageformats so I do have 2.3x times smaller file to render (compared to properly made webp). [kwin] [Bug 461399] New: Overview and vertical virtual desktops cause disconnect between what the user sees and how overview behaves
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461399 Bug ID: 461399 Summary: Overview and vertical virtual desktops cause disconnect between what the user sees and how overview behaves Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.26.2 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: effects-overview Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: jxftw2...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Enabling vertical virtual desktops will show all desktops as horizontal in the overview, this would be fine except i can't then scroll between them horizontally using the three finger gesture. This is mostly usable for a simple 2x2 matrix but any configuration more complicated like that and it will cause issues. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Enable overview if not already enabled 2. Enable vertical virtual desktops, possibly make a more complex configuration too. Like 3 desktops on top and 2 on the bottom. 3. Open overview with meta+w or using the 4 finger gesture 4. use the horizontal 3 finger gesture to scroll between them. OBSERVED RESULT You will not be able to scroll between these desktops, you will need to use the vertical three finger swipe which causes a disconnect between what you see at the time and how the virtual desktops behave EXPECTED RESULT You should be able to scroll through the desktops horizontally the way they are layed out you while using the overview. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Log in to a Wayland session 2. Open Kate, type some stuff, do not save it 3. Log out of the Wayland session OBSERVED RESULT The session ends and unsaved work is discarded with no prompts to save it first EXPECTED RESULT Applications should be able to ask to save work before logging out under Wayland, like they do under X11. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 Graphics platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I have been told that this is due to Wayland not having an API to tell applications that the session is ending. [Skanpage] [Bug 461120] New: Scanned page comes up blank
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461120 Bug ID: 461120 Summary: Scanned page comes up blank Classification: Applications Product: Skanpage Version: 22.08.2 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: a.stipp...@gmx.net Reporter: johnmaveric...@mail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When i try to scan a page (or multiple ones), they come up (apparently) blank STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Turn on scanner (Epson Stylus SX435W connected by USB) 2. Run SkanPage (just installed with no custom settings) 3. Set the ScanMode to Gray and the resolution to 75PPP 4. Click Scan OBSERVED RESULT Page comes up blank EXPECTED RESULT Should show the document SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 5.26 KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 Kernel Version: 5.15.0-52-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Upon investigation i believe i could figure the problem out. I have SkanLite also installed (and Gnome's Document Scanner - hey, i have to have a plan B to do the job!). I believe that, somehow, skanlite and skanpage share some settings because: 1. if i set skanpage to ScanMode to Color it shows the document in complete "red tone" 2. If i close skanpage and go to skanlite and Set ScanMode: Gray and Resoution to 75PPP and then go to Scanner Specific Options - i have a "Dropout" option set to "None"! If i set it to other option and then to None again, it fixes the problem in SkanPage. 3. In SkanLite, sometimes, the colors in Advanced Options are also all set to their maximum and when changed they also fix the problem in SkanPage. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
