Re: [Koha] On how to create a report

2015-10-30 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi,
You may visit this wiki page :
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/SQL_Reports_Library

and you can see all reports related to what you want ,

we use the following 2 reports in our library :
they will give you the name of the cataloger as well but you must active
action log in your syspref first :

Statistic for daily catalogers achievement in date range for bib records

   - *Developer:* Karam Qubsi
   - *Module:* Cataloging
   - *Purpose:* Statistic for daily catalogers achievement in date range
for bib records (you can change the date range I make it for the whole 2014
   year in this example )
   - *Status:* Complete

SELECT DATE_FORMAT(I.timestamp, '%d-%c-%Y') AS Date,
B.userid AS Staff,
count(I.timestamp) AS CountFROM action_logs ILEFT JOIN borrowers BON
I.user=B.borrowernumberWHERE I.module='CATALOGUING' AND I.action='ADD'
AND date(I.timestamp) BETWEEN '2014-01-01' AND '2014-12-31'
 AND I.info='biblio'GROUP BY Date,B.useridORDER BY DATE(timestamp) DESC

change dates to the correct range you want .

for items added you may try this report :
Statistic for daily catalogers achievement in date range for Item records

   - *Developer:* Karam Qubsi
   - *Module:* Cataloging
   - *Purpose:* Statistic for daily catalogers achievement in date range
for item records (you can change the date range I make it for the whole
2014 year in this example )
   - *Status:* Complete

SELECT DATE_FORMAT(I.timestamp, '%d-%c-%Y') AS Date,
B.userid AS Staff,
count(I.timestamp) AS CountFROM action_logs ILEFT JOIN borrowers BON
I.user=B.borrowernumberWHERE I.module='CATALOGUING' AND I.action='ADD'
AND date(I.timestamp) BETWEEN '2014-01-01' AND '2014-12-31'
 AND I.info='item'GROUP BY Date,B.useridORDER BY DATE(timestamp) DESC

*Best regards . *

Re: [Koha] Request for documentation -- ICU chains

2016-10-10 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi Barton ,
Actually I did some research about this for Arabic searching but I didn't
reach to a stable version of the icu files because of the lake of time and
support for this project .

Anyway I published what I've done to a blog post in Arabic and someone
translated it to English and it was published on the wiki page you've
mentioned https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Correcting_Search_of_Ar
abic_records

I'm not sure what you are trying to do exactly but I think it will not be
that complex to overwrite default behavior of icu

in the mentioned above page I put example of icu file for arabic :

   *

this will replace every ال in Arabic to the corresponding value , it is not
perfect as this might change some "ال " in the middle of the word which not
what we want .
I believe that we might also be able to use some regex to handle that but
I'm not sure if the icu file will accept the regular expressions I didn't
try but you might try and this depend on the cases that you are trying to
resolve you might not need that at all .

so I think the best thing is to start by understanding how we can make
transliterate rule which is documented in this page :
http://userguide.icu-project.org/transforms/general/rules

and then create our rules for the language we want by adding our rules to
the words / phrases icu.xml files . in the follwoing way :

I remember when I tried to add a a lot of rules the zebra re indexing
process became more slow than before .

I wish that can help

Please give a look at this email from 2012 :
http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Re-Koha-need-help-in-
zebra-indexing-for-Arabic-words-td5730871.html#a5731004

Subject: Re: [Koha-devel] [Koha] need help in zebra indexing for Arabic
words
To: Paul Poulain
Cc: koha-de...@lists.koha-community.org

Hi all
I solved this in zebra by customizing the transliterate rule in
words-icu.xml file

I will share a complete file solve this in Arabic soon !

the solution is by adding the following : (for example ) : I will not use
here the Arabic characters to make it more simple :

if we have language X and in this language we write in connected letter but
some letter is not important in the search process , so we have this word
" *the*word " in the search the searcher is not interested in finding *the*
but he is absolutely search for "word "

so I solve this by following this guide : http://userguide.icu-project.o
rg/transforms/general/rules#TOC-Context

and make zebra convert thew to w
and we may have to make this for every letter thea to a _ theb to b >>>>
thez to z

like in the following :

...
...
..

so if some one search for theword the zebra will convert thew to w so
searching for word = theword :D

and for Arabic :

.
...
...
..

so searching for " بحث"
will find "البحث"

and this will solve the whole problem :)
I wish this will help you Mohamed

Thank you Frédéric , Paul

Re: [Koha] Hosting options for Koha installation

2017-01-31 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi, as it look like a small library. I suggest digital ocean with the
USD10 / per month package you can get a good performance with it and you
can upgrade RAM / cpu anytime if needed in the future.

I think you can start with the usd5 /m package and make sure to enable swap
on it.

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-add-swap-on-ubuntu-14-04

Choose Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or debian 8 as it is easy to follow up with the
package installation instructions there.

https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian

https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages

Best wishes.
Karam.

Dear Community,

hosting company and they said they don't offer root access. After some
research I found providers offering "root servers" or "managed servers"
which are a little costly (about € 30,- a month).

It would be great if you could share your experiences on which hosting is
best. Specifically my questions are:

   - Are there any recommended hosting companies and products? It would be
best if they were in Austria or Germany but also abroad ist ok.
   - If I get a root server will I be able to install it only with the
Installation instructions? I am proficient with the command line and I
already installed and set up Koha on a "virtual machine".
   - Is there a better/easier way?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: [Koha] HTML COde

2017-08-14 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi ,

if you just want to add some html content to your homepage you can use a
syspref called : OpacMainUserBlock
just add your html content there and you will find the result in your opac
homepage .

if you really want to edit the koha templates files then to find them this
will depend on how you installed koha ,
for example for git installation :
https://github.com/Koha-Community/Koha/tree/master/koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/bootstrap/en

if you are using package installation search under /*usr*/*share*/*koha*/
*opac*/htdocs/opac-*tmpl*/bootstrap/en/

Anyway I think it is not a good practice to edit your template files , as
when you will upgrade next time you will lose your customization .

Note that koha is using a template processing system so you must be careful
not to break the logic there .

Re: [Koha] Title search in KOHA

2017-09-24 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi Nikesh ,
You may check this file for mappings :
https://github.com/Koha-Community/Koha/blob/master/etc/zebradb/marc_defs/marc21/biblios/recorad.abs

I've tested some of your results and as I understand from that mapping the
results are correct according to mappings there
for example this record from your results :
https://opac.kustar.ac.ae/cgi-bin/koha/opac-MARCdetail.pl?biblionumber=32490
Marc file has :
505 0 0 *_g*I.
*_t*Sleepy Hollow, 1844 --
*_g*II.
*_t*Shakespeare's American Fable --

if you checked that mentioned mapping and exactly this line ( for 505t) :

https://github.com/Koha-Community/Koha/blob/b4e525e4f6382a421cb7e77632fca8ecaaf8f3d6/etc/zebradb/marc_defs/marc21/biblios/record.abs#L158

you will find it was mapped to title

Please consider that marc standards has other places that holds title
related field.

if you believe that some of those mappings were wrong please let the
community know about that .

*Best wishes *

Re: [Koha] Title search in KOHA

2017-09-25 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi ,

I didn't test that before , but I think you need to remove every occurrence
of the word "TITLE:x" in that mapping file except the one you want ( 245a )

after that you need to rebuild your zebra
<https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Commands_provided_by_the_Debian_packages#koha-rebuild-zebra>index
,

( I'm not really sure that this is all you need to do ) so I don't advice
you to try that on a production server

as I mentioned to you, your problem is not only in the responsibility field
( 245c) it is with every occurrence of "TITLE" index .
in the example url that I sent to you there is no mention to Shakespeare in
245c at all ,
https://opac.kustar.ac.ae/cgi-bin/koha/opac-MARCdetail.pl?biblionumber=32490

245 1 4 *_a*The machine in the garden :
*_b*technology and the pastoral ideal in America /
*_c*Leo Marx.

but in 505 :
505 0 0 *_g*I.
*_t*Sleepy Hollow, 1844 --
*_g*II.
*_t*Shakespeare's American Fable --
*_g*III.

and that record was the first result in the search query
<https://opac.kustar.ac.ae/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?idx=ti&q=shakespeare>you
suggested .

Best wishes .

Re: [Koha] How many libraries use Koha?

2018-08-10 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hello Chris ,

According to librarytechnology website which is not official from koha
there are about 4,976 libraries declared to be using koha.
https://librarytechnology.org/libraries/search.pl?ILS=Koha

However libraries that allowed koha community to share their statistics are
less than that in https://hea.koha-community.org/ you will find that total
libraries only 1,767

And using koha dashboard you can get an idea about recent active developers
:
https://dashboard.koha-community.org/

using :https://hea.koha-community.org/ you can find more statistics about
koha usage

here you can find some historical timeline :

[Koha] SC Status before sip2 login

2019-08-26 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hello Koha Community,

I'm working with a selfcheck machine that is sending the sc status request
(99) before the login request (93) . and that is causing koha sip server to
close the connection.

From official documentation of SIP * , it look like that this status
message can be sent before initialising SIP login, so I'm not sure if there
is an option to allow this request or even allow login without
username/password as we are going to secure the connection using ssh
anyway.

Any ideas or tips would be highly appreciated,

Thank you very much

Karam .

Re: [Koha] Invalid username/password with web installer - original installation

2019-08-28 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hello Matthew,

What installation instructions have you followed? is it the package based
installation method here :
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages .

By the way, if web installer never happened you cannot create admin user
using the methods in the link you provided, as the db structure was not
created yet.

So you have to focus on getting mysql username/password first :

sudo xmlstarlet sel -t -v 'yazgfs/config/pass'
/etc/koha/sites/library/koha-conf.xml;echo

NOTE THAT library in that command is the instance name and so you should
change it to your instance name. you mentioned in your message that you
tried user (koha_kohadev ) so it look like your instance name is kohadev so
that command should be like this :

sudo xmlstarlet sel -t -v 'yazgfs/config/pass' /etc/koha/sites/kohadev
/koha-conf.xml;echo

This should output the password for mysql for your instance. and the usrer
is koha_kohadev

if you are not sure what was the instance name you can figure that out by
running : sudo koha-list

I hope that helps,

Best regards.

That's weird, it look like you have a problem in your ubuntu, I"m not
familiar with this error, but a quick search I found this :
https://askubuntu.com/questions/453411/ubuntu-14-04-not-booting-after-error-message-tmp-could-not-be-mounted

You mentioned that only GUI was not loaded, are you able to access terminal
? can you try to check mysql status or start it now ?

2019-09-03 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi SATISH,

it look like there is a problem in your ubuntu system , I would first take
koha backup files from /var/spool/koha/ to a safe external
storage,

Then If you prefer to try to fix the current Ubuntu you may try to search
about how to fix file system, I found this for you, but I haven't come to
similar problems before, so I'm not sure if it will work for you:
https://www.tecmint.com/fsck-repair-file-system-errors-in-linux/

if the only important part of the system is Koha, it might be better to
install a fresh ubuntu/debian then install koha and restore koha backup
there, ( you have to take care of the koha upgrade process ) .

Best wishes.

in this image : https://ibb.co/g7RdR5G it look like something is locking
your files,

it is possible your filesystem was mounted in read-only mode :

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/apache-won-t-restart-mktemp-failed

You might want to check /proc/mounts to see if your filesystem is mounted

In that same page they are suggestion to check inode usage, so please also
give a try :
sudo df -i

Can you double check your /etc/koha/sites/ulibrary/SIPconfig.xml file. I
think you may have syntax error inside it.

You may share it here if you wish, but make sure to remove any
credentials inside it.

2019-12-18 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hello Bruck,

This query (UPDATE items SET homebranch='LIB', holdingbranch='LIB') ) is
very dangerous.

This will set all (homebranch and holdingbranch ) in your items table to
be LIB for all items!

if that is not what you want, then try to retrieve a backup from (
/var/spool/koha ) or anywhere else you store your backups .

Please note that LIB should be one of your branches custom code. so are you
sure it is LIB in your Koha installation ?

Regards.

[Koha] 403 Forbidden After dev installation !

2013-04-16 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi All
I installed koha ( master ) using git installation instructions here :
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_git
and this is not the first time I do this ,I installed it before , but at
this time there is something wrong after all the instructions and when I
arrived to the web installation the web page gives me this :
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an
ErrorDocument to handle the request.
--
Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at 127.0.1.1 Port 8080
--
I have access to the files , and I'm not sure where is the problem located

any one have an idea about this ?

Thanks a lot

Re: [Koha] Opac can't show non-latin characters correctly

2013-05-07 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi ,
The first problem is about the links and was solved in this bug :
http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=10176

2nd one about displaying Arabic words in the Refine your search area you
can increase the value of the syspref : FacetLabelTruncationLength
to 50 ..

About the first problem to apply this in your local system just add
use utf8;
to the

/C4/Search.pm

and that's it .

Best Regards .

[Koha] Need help about LDAP authentication problem

But the LDAP authentication is not working with me (using koha 3.10.05
package installation  )

the opac-log file gives me these messages when I try to log in using ldap :

Re: [Koha] Importing books from a csv file, including bar codes

2013-10-25 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi

It doesn't look like it is a part of MARC. And since it is not a
> part of MARC, I can't really just import a MARC file, can I?

Yes you can import data in marc format includes Item data by using the 952
field at the end of each bib record .

so if you have 3 Items in your first record

your record should end with something like this :

952 \\$aMain $bBrunch $p1001 $t C-1 $o020 ABC.D
952 \\$aMain $bBrunch $p1002 $t C-2 $o020 ABC.D
952 \\$aMain $bBrunch $p1003 $t C-3 $o020 ABC.D

that's it ,
and as what guys told you , you can use marcedit to make it easy mapping
your fields to marc and local koha fields (like item field )

the 952 sub-fields are :

0 - Withdrawn status
2 - Source of classification or shelving scheme
3 - Materials specified (bound volume or other part)
4 - Damaged status
5 - Use restrictions
7 - Not for loan
8 - Collection code
a - Permanent location
b - Current location
c - Shelving location
d - Date acquired ...
e - Source of acquisition
f - Coded location qualifier
g - Cost, normal purchase price
h - Serial Enumeration / chronology
i - Inventory number
j - Shelving control number
o - Full call number
p - Barcode ...
t - Copy number
u - Uniform Resource Identifier
v - Cost, replacement price
w - Price effective from
x - Non-public note
y - Koha item type
z - Public note

Best Regards

[Koha] Upgrade from 3.10 to 3.14x

2013-12-19 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi ,
I have 2 servers:
server *A* and server *B *.
server A has koha 3.10 installation ( packages )
server B has koha 3.14 installation (packages ) .

I take the backup files from (/var/spool/koha/library ) from server A .
and restore them on server B .

after that I get an error message :
ERROR 1396 (HY000) at line 1: Operation DROP USER failed for 'koha_library'@
'%'

I make the upgrade schema after that.
koha-upgrade-schema library .

no errors .

and Koha is working, it seems that there is no problem . but I don't know
what is that error message means ?

please let me know if I miss something .
or that is normal .

Many Thanks :) .

Re: [Koha] number of bibliographic records

2014-02-18 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi ,
in my library I'm using this report , and I think this is the same report
you want :

SELECT l.action, count(l.timestamp) AS 'bibs'
FROM action_logs l
LEFT JOIN borrowers p ON (p.borrowernumber=l.user)
WHERE module='CATALOGUING'
  AND date(l.timestamp) BETWEEN <> AND <>
  AND l.info!='item' AND user=<>
GROUP BY l.action

this report will ask you for date range and cataloger no . then the results
would be something like this :

actionbibsADD193DELETE10MODIFY1010
Note : the above report is modified by me the source is here :
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/SQL_Reports_Library where the report
name there is :

   - 5.83 Bib records added/deleted in time
frame<http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/SQL_Reports_Library#Bib_records_added.2Fdeleted_in_time_frame>
developed
by Nicole C. Engard, ByWater Solutions
   -

Best wishes .

 not the username .
it's something like : (1 , 2 , 3 ... )

Good mornings ...

3 Days ago I posted a tutorial video on YouTube talking about the

I've got a good feedback that the video was clear and easy to follow from

I added a new page in koha wiki about it :

2014-06-01 Thread Karam Qubsi
*Hi Mohammad , *

I think this documentation can help you ,
http://perldoc.koha-community.org/misc/batchdeletebiblios.html

You have to make sure that your bib records is not linked to any items
record then you put the list of bib no. (that you want to delete them) . in
a text file and pass this file to the script .
perl batchdeletebiblios.pl tobedeleted.txt

Bests.

Hi ,
in NonLatin lang. this can be solved by enabling ICU .

edit :

and make the following changes as highlighted here :

# Traditional word index
# Used if completenss is 'incomplete field' (@attr 6=1) and
# structure is word/phrase/word-list/free-form-text/document-text
index w
completeness 0
position 1
alwaysmatches 1
firstinfield 1
icuchain words-icu.xml

# Phrase index
# Used if completeness is 'complete {sub}field' (@attr 6=2, @attr 6=1)
# and structure is word/phrase/word-list/free-form-text/document-text
index p
completeness 1
firstinfield 1
icuchain words-icu.xml

Note: make sure to change the original data ( don't add the text above...
Modify the original )

then re index you zebra .

see :

Asks: ___ ICU Zebra indexing.

Values:

   -

   Using

Description:

   -

ICU is a set of code libraries providing Unicode and Globalization
support for software applications. What this means is ICU Zebra indexing is
only necessary if you use non-roman characters in your cataloging. If using
ICU Zebra indexing you will want to not use QueryFuzzy

Re: [Koha] Download a MARC file of a Saved Report

2014-09-25 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi , if you can add them to a list
<http://manual.koha-community.org/3.16/en/stafflists.html#addtolist>then
you can simply choose to download this list as iso2709 (mrc) file.
but I think there is no direct way to add a list of bib records to a koha
list . it would be very useful if we will have this feature in koha in the
future .
for me if I were you with large number of bibrecords in this case I will
create a new list as normal from koha and then I will INSERT
the biblionumbers ( that I want them to be downloaded as mrc ) into
the virtualshelfcontents
<http://schema.koha-community.org/tables/virtualshelfcontents.html>table
directly . then I can download them .

I'm not sure if there is another way to do this ..
Regards

[Koha] Help with JSON and public reports

2014-12-23 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi ,
First I'm very new with JSON . I'd like to ask :
as I understood from JSON documentation that the output data in JSON format
must look like something like to this :
 [ { "Name" : "Alfreds Futterkiste", "City" : "Berlin", "Country" :
"Germany" }, { "Name" : "Berglunds snabbköp", "City" : "Luleå", "Country" :
"Sweden" }, { "Name" : "Centro comercial Moctezuma", "City" : "México
D.F.", "Country" : "Mexico" }, { "Name" : "Ernst Handel", "City" : "Graz",
"Country" : "Austria" } ]

but in Koha the output for Public reports is like this :

[["23-12-2014","maisara","6"],["23-12-2014","nadia","10"],["22-12-2014","hakkar","17"],["22-12-2014","nadia","3"],["22-12-2014","abdramaneg","21"]]

the field names is not in the output , and I realized ( & maybe I'm
wrong) that to handle JSON text you must have id for each field ) to
handle it with your script .

so is this a correct output from Koha ? and can be handled in some
advanced methods with JSON ?

or do I have to write my SQL report in a way to CONCAT the field name
with the field data in every data cell ?

thanks :) .

[Koha] Right To Left in Arabic KOHA

2012-04-28 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi all .
I'm looking to develop the result of koha translation process in Arabic

as you know the Arabic language is deffer from English

in Arabic we read and write from right to left

this is possible to be modified by hand but if we want to create an
Arabic version of koha we need to make the text by default goes from
right to left .

so what we have to do to make this koha Arabic Version ?
and make it as a choice in the installations steps when selecting Arabic.

I think my group can edit the css files and make this ok (direction rtl )

but how to make this changes Permanent for every new Arabic Koha installation

can we make some default template for Arabic language , or that can be
selected from the po files in some way ?
or it must be included in the koha package , or what ?

Both Arabic and Hebrew, and the non-Semitic languages using the Arabic
or the Hebrew alphabet, such as Persian and Yiddish, are written from
right to left (except for their numbers!). Urdu which is also derived
from Arabic and Persian language and ancient indo - aryan language
binti is written from right to left. Ancient Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek
and the oldest Latin could be written in both directions.
Also Chinese and Japanese can be written right to left (also written
from top to bottom, vertically).
Korean is NOT written from right to left

I wish we discuss this to make the next koha version fully supported
for Arabic language

Kind regards

Re: [Koha] Right To Left in Arabic KOHA

2012-04-30 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi Sam,
I think that we can create a css templates that support all the rtl
languages and let the user select what he prefer
if his language is ltr he will select the default one , or he will
select the second choice rtl to support his language, but each
language must be translated to be supported , our group is from the
Arab world and we are working to make koha in Arabic we are working
here :
translate.koha-community.org/ar/36/

you can ask to open a Persian translation project and start
translating , and when finishing you may find it easier if you find
koha support the style from right to left :)

and koha 3.8 know is fully supported in search and retrieve for
non-Latin languages .

I hope you will find the best way to start your Persian project :)

kinds regards
Karam Qubsi

Re: [Koha] Right To Left in Arabic KOHA

2012-05-02 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi Mason,
this is not clear for me , can you give us more explanation ?
the po files contains strings (not) css codes so where we have to put
this codes ?

I almost done in make koha from right to left (by changing the css
templates manually ) and it's seems to be OK when it finish .

it's not just about the direction of the text all the site must be
right to left ( some images must be changed like the directions of
some arrows when browsing a Shelve )

so i wish you explain more to us about your idea it may make it more
easy to us ,
in the links you provide they are talking about Pootle in general , i
wish some one tell us if this available for koha too .

thanks a lot.

Re: [Koha] Multi-Lingual SQL & User Defined Parameters

2012-05-16 Thread Karam Qubsi
Hi
Dear Mr Massoud ,
Dear all,

I think this will be very helpful for the people who don't want to use
the English interface in Koha , and as you say when we finish
translating koha 3.8 to Arabic ( very soon inshaallah) ,
we will have problems with the people who want to use koha in Arabic
and english in the same time
e.g:
May be some Arab librarian prefer to use koha English interface for
the staff client , and in the case that we've used the translated
sql files (that your company provided it to us) for the marc21 the
Arab librarian who want to use the English interface will have a
problem because all the staff client will be in english except for the
marc records

and if we use the English version of the marc21 sql files the problem
will be that the Arab librarian who will use the Arabic interface will
see the marc fields in english

so if we want to use arabic interface we have to use arabic sql files for marc

is it possible to make something like armarc as we have normarc in the
SQL structure ?!

it's not a standard we don't really have 'armarc' and it is not a
solution so the library chose its Marc flavor and all the librarian in
that library will be forced to use this armarc , but will help to make
the installation of the translated Arabic marc more easier

and for the preferences description is included in the po files but
the preferences still in English (the main term )

maybe the best solution is to make all the strings in koha included in
the po files I don't have deep technical background but this will be
more flexible for koha users all over the world for other languages
not only for the Arabic language

wish you will be able to do that for all the koha community :)

thanks a lot for you Mr Massoud

and thanks you all in Koha community for helping us :D

because the OPAC is 100% complete and the total translation process is
about 70%.

and we are working on it to make it soon 100% :)

[Koha] Arab Koha Mailing list (and website)

2012-08-03 Thread Karam Qubsi
Dear all
We hope if you can create a new list for the Koha Arab Community we need
this because the community now depending on poorly groups in (facebook) and
it doesn't have the features of archiving and safety issues that you all
know and we want it to be a mailing list (and forum ) in the same time as
it is here .

And we are planing to have an Arabic koha community website (interface)
that Mr Massoud start something like this on his own server but we need to
make this more formal so please advice us about this :

   - Arabic Mailing list
   like the German one :
   http://lists.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/koha-i18n-german
But please note that we need it to use utf-8 ( in digest) for the Arabic
   characters
   - Arabic web site ( for news and encouraging the Arab community to
contribute to the international community of koha )
   http://ar.koha-community.org

and thank you ALL for your efforts

Hi all ,
I'm new to zebra , and using it in "koha" ILS

in the Arabic language there is some letter come before the words or after
them these letters we don't need to index in our index
I will give you an example :
in English we can say : the car...
in Arabic the same is : السيارة
if you note that the letter in Red is "the" and it's ignored in English
search but in Arabic search we need the zebra to find every record that
have " the word " or just "word" الكلمة or كلمة

so how to define that to zebra

thanks a lot

Re: [Koha] need help in zebra indexing for Arabic words

2012-10-25 Thread Karam Qubsi
Thanks Mohamed for give more description about our same problem

I wish we can find a solution for this problem for all the users of koha in
the Arab world

while I'm searching i find something about the " أ إ آ" letters to considers
them all as "ا "
and I find something about the suffix " ة ه "

the solution is to edit the words-icu.xml file and add these lines :

for أ آ إ :

and for the ة ه suffix add :

and for the ي ى suffix add :

I didn't try this I wish you try and tell me

but about ignoring the الـ letters in words i didn't find how to do this

I wish someone can help us about this

best regards
