Re: [Koha] Managing digital subscriptions

2016-07-26 Thread Lenora Oftedahl
The security for the journal would be at the publisher's end, not the
library's. So access can be provided through the catalog, but the patron is
going to either need to be at a supported IP address or have userid/password to
prove they are a registered library user.

Hi Doug,

at the moment Koha can't control access to files depending on log in,
IP, or similar.

You could make the bibliographic records only visible when accessed from
an IP within the library, but the users could e-mail themselves the
records with the URLs.

So I think you really want to control who is able to access the files
outside of Koha.

Hope this helps,

Katrin

[Koha] Unique item fields

Some of you may remember that I asked a while back about where you set MARC
fields to have unique entries, as in the case of barcodes. The setting is in
Acquisitions system preferences in 3.18. Still not sure where that's found in
3.06 anymore.

In 3.18, the default is set to barcode with the option to add more fields
separated by spaces. So, I've added notes from the biblio table. Is this
going to break anything? Does anyone else have more than one unique entry
field? I'm testing now and will report results, but thought if someone else
has already tested, I might save some time.

Just saying, I will probably never be able to make a conference in August.
Flights and hotels are more expensive, it is the only time we have reliably
decent weather here*, and my other life as a performer at summer festivals
gets in the way. If it were mid-week, I could get to it on the city bus or
by bicycle, and I didn't have to plan it. . . I might make it. It could
well be that the host picks the best time for their locality and then sees
how many others can make it. I thought KohaCon worked pretty well running
in tandem with the Reno library conference this year. Rather than avoiding
these things, perhaps we should embrace them?
At any rate, I look forward to being able to attend when I can, which is
more likely if it's on the same continent.

I am trying my best not to conflict with other events, but I think I
would have to draw the line at the State level since things can get quite
tricky with that many moving parts. I will of course bear that in mind and
try and navigate as best as might be expected so that as much of the
Community can come as possible, though.

What I'm hoping you will do is respond to our call for proposals for a
meeting with your own proposed dates and location rather than publicly
 proposing
your own meeting. We'll add your proposal into the mix along with others
and let everyone vote on when and where they would like to go.

I'm a bit mystified about this new process. Our International process
is quite simple, and while it's had it's bumps, I think that we've been
refining things over the years to try and keep things as fair and equitable
while retaining as few articulations as possible. I got the distinct
impression that this process would disqualify me on several counts. Please
do humour me while I dissect my thinking interspersed with your initial
 announcement.

A group of Koha users is planning on hosting a meeting for Koha users
based in the United States and Canada.

I was hoping to welcome the wider North American Community at my
event. While the US and Canada are two of the big three (Mexican Libraries
have been involved a number of years) in terms of land mass, I did not wish
to forget the rich cultures of the Carribean and others in Latin America
[1]. This is true in especial when citizens of some of those Nations made
the long trip to our last KohaCon in Reno.

We intend to hold this meeting next year, 2014, sometime during the month
 of August.

I read this, and it processed, which was why I announced my intentions
so as not to conflict, but to add to the wealth of the Community. 2015
wouldn't be a major election year here, which is a factor for me to keep in
mind. When I proposed hosting the International in 2013, that was also on
my mind. Things are easier logistically even if one were to back up to July.

We would like to invite proposals from agencies and libraries in the
United States to host this meeting.

As a consultant, I do not view myself as an Agency nor a Library.
While bids from just the US would be an attractive proposition in terms of
my chances, I do not wish to disenfranchise others. It certainly could be
that no one outside of the US wishes to host, but I would rather the gates
 to the process stand open.

We envision that the meeting would span 2-3 days. Please email your
proposals to me, nbl...@masslibsystem.org. Information in your proposal
should include (but does not need to be limited to) the following
 information:

That span is certainly amenable to me, and we've heard from others
that they like it as well.

Subject: [Koha] Question on Cataloguing Graduate Thesis
Every year our library receives a single binding which includes copies of
all graduate theses submitted and accepted for various degree programs. The
question has arisen:
Where/how do you catalog multiple graduate theses in a single binding in
dewey/loc/foobar?

Although the immediate problem begs separate bindings for each thesis, this
will probably not happen. Besides, there would be nearly 40 volumes which
would not follow that format in any case.

Our cataloguers would be very appreciative of any pointers, suggestions,
etc.

Kind Regards,
Chris

[Koha] Bit of code appears on screen

2013-01-09 Thread Lenora Oftedahl
Could someone tell me where I can fix this? I can't see where it is coming
from.Koha 3.06.04.000

***
We have noticed a script error in the library's Koha search interface that
leaves an unintended bit of program code showing in the upper left-hand corner
of search interface. You can see an example of it here:

http://catalog.streamnetlibrary.org/cgi-bin/koha/opac-shelves.pl?viewshelf=23sortfield=title

The '//]]' bit in the upper left should not be there and is the result of a
commented-out piece of code that should either be removed or placed before the
end /script tag above it.

I have included an image that shows the location in the code of the issue.

Is this something that you have control over and could fix? If so, it would be
a great help. Van is actually encapsulating the search interface into another
website, which he has working well, but the stuff in the left corner sticks out
like sore thumb!

You can see what it looks like here:

OK, so dates? If we set dates, I can talk to the Doubletree around the corner.
We've got a conference room here that can seat 70-80. If we're a larger
group, then the Doubletree has meeting rooms. They've cut good deals for the
Commission in the past. Or actually, BPA has an auditorium right across the
street from the Doubletree.

Re: [Koha] Koha - call number indexing

2012-02-02 Thread Lenora Oftedahl
Might try using 050 4 rather then 090 which is already claimed in Koha. 082
vs 092 might be better as well. I've noticed that OCLC has moved to using more
050 4 rather then 090 in most records. That might explain the indexing.

I can't help, but we are having this problem as well. I finally got them to
show up in the OPAC result, but not the detail display.

I added a callnumber field to the biblio table, mapped it to the 090 and added
it to the template. The column is empty but the call numbers are displaying in
the result. That won't work for items because all item subfields need to be
mapped to the same field as I understand it?

We are still completely unable to search by call number.

Subject: [Koha] Koha - call number indexing

All,
Can someone explain to me where the call number indexes are pulling from? We
have our local call numbers pulling from the 092 and I thought that was the
field being indexed, but it seems to be the
items.itemscallnumber Is that correct?

For some reason, not all of our records are pulling up by call number and I'm
trying to figure out why.

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Koha] Ghost records

2011-04-26 Thread Lenora Oftedahl
Hello all.

Koha v. 3.00.00.107
Zebra 2.0.34

We're having a problem with ghost records in the index. The Zebra index is
rebuilt every night, but still when searching, I'll pull up two records: one
that has been deleted and one that is real. The public receives a 404 error.
I receive

Can't call method fields on an undefined value at
/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/catalogue/MARCdetail.pl line 123.

Has anyone solved this problem? Will upgrading solve the problem or just
compound?

Thanx.
