KR> Fontana Dam picture question
Glenn Martin wrote: > How do you get such VIBRANT pictures with any glare or haze from the > KR's Canopy? Lots of practice! There are a few simple tricks, such as keeping the canopy clean and scratchfree, wearing dark clothes and having nothing shiny in the cockpit (the next one will be all black inside), and for times when the glare can't be killed I use the giant rubber lens hood that I suck up to the canopy to completely eliminate it. Another trick that works well when the sun is low is to bank hard enough to put the wing between the canopy and the sun, and all glare disappears. The original reason for the lens hood was to keep me from scratching the inside of the canopy with the end of the lense, and it does great at that also, so it stays on the camera at all times. Also, I take control of the camera by taking it off automatic and set ISO speed, shutter speed, and aperture to whatever it needs to be to eliminate blurring the image. The image stabilized lense I bought last year helps by 3 f-stops, which equals three shutter speeds lower, but I took a lot of good pictures before I bought that expensive lense. and Rick Human wrote: >>Gee Mark - are you inviting a visit from the FBI - loitering over a DAM, >>in a HOMEBUILT AIRCRAFT, posting pictures of the target on the net. I decided yesterday that if I hit that dam at 250 mph the prop hub might make a dent about a half inch by a half inch, by about 3/8" deep. At the risk of starting a TSA thread that will never end, I've been saying for years that we'd all end up putting our belongings in clear plastic bags and wearing gov't issue Tyvec coveralls on airliners, but my wife corrected me the other day and said "no, it'll be skimpy hospital gowns, and we'll be in handcuffs". That image really cracks me up. Today I added another 3 hours under the KR belt, now approaching 850 KR flying hours... Mark Langford N56ML "at" hiwaay.net website at http://www.N56ML.com

Mark, The pictures are fantastic. It seems that we all share this common bond that only pilots and can share. Most of the people that I talk to have never been above the tree line and have no clue of the wonders there missing. Keep the pictures coming, There just more inspiration for those of us who are still in the building process. Mike Sylvester kr2s builder Birmingham,AL. KR> Re: Folding wings
Rich I have seen Ken Atkinson's wing arrangement. The wings do not fold. All he has done is to make the existing WAF arrangement easier to remove the wings, by using anchor nuts and a quite ingenious wing joint cover. He keeps it an a trailer at home anfd then tows it to the airfield to fly. He says he can rig it in about 45 minutes. Unfortunately he does not use a computer so you can't contact him on line. I have some pics I took of it when I visited him last year, contact me off net and I will send them. The link was from Willie Wilson and I believe the builder was a K. Atkinson on his KR2 G-BVIA. The link no longer works, but maybe someone has a copy of it. The system looked simple enough to build, didn't add a lot of weight and appeared to make wing removal after flight practical. Seriously dana , that looks cool. I too have always wanted a wood boat (true beauty) and want to restore or build from scratch. As close as we love to each other, I would love to help you as it would be a great learnign experience and I certainly need the fellowship. I like to think my dining room furniture came out really nice so my skills should be of some value if for nothing else a tool goffer. I am also available to help with the gathering if you need it.
