Anyone know where I can buy VE, other than AS? As usual, the only thing
that I really need right now is the VE, and they have it BO.

I expect to finish fabricating the last of the parts for the Fuel Tanks,
today and will begin final assembly tomorrow. So, why I need the VE, to
patch up the holes in the wings.

KR> Sorry

2010-10-09 Thread Michael Swierk
Hi Eric,
My name is Mike Swierk and I live Oxford, Indiana was wondering if I could
get together with you one day and check out your KR? I have been interested in
a while and maybe looking to pick up a project or start fresh. They seem to be
a great little machine from what I have been reading for a while and checking
out all the builders sites.
 Thanks Mike

I always got VE from Dan Diehl. It worked out much better than the AS stuff
because he promoted it properly for the current season to give a reasonable
working time.

Dan , the last I bought some venal ester it was from a boat builder we had in
Nashville. I brought my own gallon containers and he  filled them from a 55
gallon drum.I don't remember what he charged, but it wasn't much .

KR> Wicks aircraft "open house" day

2010-10-09 Thread Mark Langford
KRnetHeads,

Today Larry Flesner and I flew into the "First Annual Wicks Forum", an open
house that featured some great speakers and a tour of the organ factory.
Speakers like Rod Hightower (the new EAA president) and Mark Cook, Kitplanes
editor, among others. I really like Hightower...I think he's asking the right
questions and planning to do the right things.

It occured to me that I should have sent out a reminder late in the week to
fill up a few of the empty tables. I'll do my best to do a web page on the
experience by tomorrow night, but for now check out this picture of Larry
flying early this morning over Illinois. See

KR> stub wing gap seals

2010-10-09 Thread Mark Langford
Back when I first started flying my KR, I was in the process of going from
gaffer's tape gap seals to some that I made up from fiberglass layups. But
between the two, I decided I needed to fly a little, so I flew one day without
any kind of gaps seals at all between stub wings and outer wings. A nasty
surprise awaited on takeoff...I was worried that I'd take out the trees at the
end of the runway! I was shocked at how much the climb rate was affected by
the absense of gap seals. I had a 1.5" gap in there, and it made a huge
difference.

A recent Barnaby Wainfan article in Kitplanes magazine explained the physics
behind that phenomenon, and a 1/2" gap can kill off something like 40% of your
lift. The gist of it is that you basically have three wingtips on each side
now, along with the associated lift penalty. I mention this to keep you from
making the same mistake I made...and now you know why I reduced my wing gap
down to 1/16" recently, and it's currently covered with gaffer's tape...
