All those parts are sold and have been for a while, sorry. That was a
repeat on the for sale post and I don't know why. Wish I had had that much
interest then.

KR> Got the go ahead

2014-06-17 Thread Mac McConnell-Wood
Hi Peter,
We met years ago at Old Sarum -my KR was G-BVZJ (sold her in'98)
I can't believe those "LAA engineers" - they need to reinvent the wheel
anytime a design comes from over the pond. I remember they wouldn't
accept a harness attachment fitting even though it had been in use by Dan
Dhiel years beforeA nameless engineer reckoned THEY would accept a 6"
nail in the main spar!
Conversely the fact that the Corvair conversion coming in at 20lbs MORE
than a Jab 3300 wouldnt wash either..I don't think there were any major
mods to the bulkheadask Mark..
Can you wonder why there are so few self builds in the UK

Cheers Mac

KR> Got the go ahead

2014-06-17 Thread Peter Drake
Hi Larry

6" had been added to bring the C of G range a bit forward with the very
light Jab 2200 engine it had been planned to use, So we are just cutting off
what had been added over and above what was on the plans.
Don't forget we have a very different system than you guys. All mods have to
be proven and approved by the LAA. So they are then responsible if it
crashes due to an error they have made. Its called covering your backside!

Are you saying you have to cut 6" off the fuselage? I guess the
powers to be in England won't accept the 1000+ hours of actual flight
time on just 2 KR's in the USA with much heavier 0-200 Continentals
hanging on the original (with slight reinforcement in my case)
firewall. Is the 3300 Jabiru really that much different in weight
than the VW?

P.S. I seem to recall 16 rings per inch on the wood but that might
just be a number I pulled out of my backside also. Wait for

KR> Got the go ahead

2014-06-17 Thread Peter Drake
Hi guys

I have at last got approval from the LAA to use the Jabiru 3300 on my KR!

However I have got to cut the extra 6" off the front we put on when we were
going to use the Jab 2200 to get the w&b right! radical surgery.
We have got to double up the main engine bearers behind the firewall as
well.

I have got to get some more spruce for this. Does anyone know what the
minimum grain count (rings per inch) I should be looking for.

At last I can get on with it, its been over two years wrestling with red
tape, not to mention the bill for the engineer.

See if this answers your question. 6 rings per inch, slope of
15:1 I'm assuming your inspector uses the same standards as the USA.
