KR> spring wrap for carb / cabin heat

2016-02-27 Thread Larry Flesner

A spring to wrap the exhaust for cabin / carb heat can be found at
the local hardware store. It is the spring for the old style screen
door. Stretch it out a bit and do the wrap.

I don't have one for sale, but I can show you exactly how to build one
yourself, at http://www.n56ml.com/corvair/airbox/ . I think this would
quality as "per the Ellison drawings", as far as entrance criteria for

KR> Search for an Ellision Carb Heat Box

2016-02-27 Thread Steve G.
Ellison never made a carb heat box to my knowledge. We have a air plenum but
there is no provision for carburetor heat as the throttlebody is mounted to the
plenum and then the plenum is mounted to the sump or intake.

Great to hear Mark. We've been lucky enough with the weather here in Kansas
City I've been able to fly the last two weekends. Had to replace a flat tube in
one tire, but other than that my plane is flying great. Maybe once you get
settled in in Florida you can host a winter KR Gathering for the rest of us to
come visit you!

I chipped away the ice from the bottom of my hanger door this morning. Took me
about 3 hours with a manual ice spade. Good workout on the arms. For the first
time since December 19 my ?Deer Slayer? KR saw the open skies. After a
preflight inspection she came to life after a little coaxing and away we went.
We bored holes all through the sky looking at the horizon in every direction.
Only a few high cirrus clouds around. Beautiful smooth air made for a really
enjoyable flight followed by a baby butt smooth landing. Look out Florida we

Always had a problem with my GPS in my KR-2 not operating on aircraft power,
but ok on internal batteries. Always made a note to trouble shoot that when I
got a chance. Did not need GPS on first flights over the airport. Today while
hooking up power for the new flap actuator, I found 2 each AN970-3 fender
washers on the power control printed circuit board. One was laying loose on
top of some components; no problem there, but some bouncing around could create
some excitement. The second washer was wedged firmly between a grounded brace
part of the power panel and the output terminal on the GPS power toggle switch.
So, every time GPS power was switched on, the electronic circuit breaker would
trip and no power for the GPS. Removed the offending washers and all is well.
Have no idea how these two big washers got there. Stuff happens.

So, have possibly toned down the level of excitement for subsequent flights.
