Re: KR> Tail feathers

2021-02-04 Thread Joe Nunley via KRnet
I modified my tail similar to what Mark described below and I would recommend
it. Controllability, stability and response was good. I have cross winds at my
airport often. I could land my tailwheel airplane in about 20 mph crosswind
without excessive distress.

I used carbon fiber for weight and strength and I liked the way it handled.

Subject: KR> KR2 project

 Dear all,

I am really stuck. I bought a KR2 project and the last time it was
worked on was in 1982. The aircraft is registered, and it is still
current so I can work on it. This is in Scotland.

The problem is that I have the manual that the builder was using but
everything else is missing. I tried to contact NVaero to purchase the
plans and manual again, it came to 394USD, I was happy to pay for but
no reply from the company or how to pay etc..

I really need the plans, I am desperate.

 Can someone please help.

 Regards,

 Ian

Although not necessarily KR related, fit for the day… jw

Ode to my Dear Mother in Heaven.

 ME MUDDER

When me prayers are eagerly said,

Who tucked me in me widdle bed?

Me Mudder

Who took me from a cozy cot,

And put me on an ice cold pot,

And made me pee if I could or not?

Me Mudder

And when the morning light had come

And me widdle crib dwibbled some,

Who wiped me tiny widdle butt?

Me Mudder

And who did me hair so neatly part,

And sometimes squezzed me till me fart?

I used it for my kr-2. It is Shell 862 resin with aluminum dioxide (that makes
it white) and the resin is diluted. The harder is TETA and works with the Shell
resin. It meets FAA standards. The aluminum dioxide prevents mold from
weakening over time.

KR> Abrasive tape for sale

2018-04-18 Thread Joe Wallace via KRnet
Hello again KR builders

Sanding seems to be one of the things needed on a KR project. I have rolls of
abrasive tape 3” wide in 50 yd rolls for sale. Offered these before and some
took advantage of the offer, but still have a large inventory left and want to
move it if possible.

I do have abrasive tape for sale.. I have 3” x 50 yd rolls in 24, 36 or 60
grit. The price per roll is $15.00. This is cloth backed abrasive tape and
most have adhesive back… I only sell full rolls as I want to get rid of my
inventory. The shipping, I have found to most of the US is between $25.00 to
$35.00 per roll sent by UPS… I have samples of each grit if you would like to
examine before purchase… Please send me your mailing address and I will send
the samples immediately… Thank you for your interest. jw

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure most of you are getting better flying
weather than we've had here in Alabama. Almost constant IFR low
ceilings with rain or when the sun does pop out, winds above normal
numbers for flying. It took me nine years to build N236MS and now
there's not much to do on these rainy days. I sometimes think that I
should start another project but I quickly come to my senses. Nope,
not going down that road again, I'll just wait on good weather. Any
good flying or building stories out there ?

KR> Paint

2017-10-15 Thread Joe. E. Wallace via KRnet
KR group

This is not exactly about the KR line of planes, but as I follow this group
regularly I find lots of good ideas… I have a problem with paint. Am building
a Loehle 5151 and will finish the inside and all metal parts in Olive Drab
paint color… I now find that that color paint is no longer available in spray
cans, only in quarts or gallons… I have many little parts that is not worth the
effort to load up a paint system for a few squirts… was wondering if there is
anyone that knows of or has the capability to put paint into the spray cans….
the paint is available but not in cans…. Thanks for any info… jw

Nice to be able to isolate the alternator and battery using this

KR> N269 7.6 Hour Data Download

2017-06-27 Thread Joe Nunley via KRnet
Things that I have learned in 7.6 Hours of flight:

Trim Tabs; trim tabs are not something that you think about until you build
your first plane. With the information that Mark sent me and the input
from all of you my plane now has fixed trim tabs that work great. I
determined that my aircraft was originally set up for a VW engine and I
installed a Continental, witch explains the large trim tab on the elevator.

Tail Wheel; the inability to turn right at low taxi speeds was caused by
interference from my rudder gap seal. I had installed rudder gap seals on
both sides of the rudder witch was binding on the right. I removed the
left side gap seal and now it operates as designed. I still fight the P
factor.

Take off and Landing; I can take off with less than 1000 feet of runway on
a grass strip but landing still takes me around 2000 feet to stop. I can
get down to 80 mph on final without the belly board but I deploy the belly
board for visibility, angle of approach, and it shortens my role. I am
still working on getting my touchdown point where I want it and I am still
learning where my wheels are on landing. I would like to develop a
technique for short field landings, my friend has a 1500 foot grass strip
that I would like to some day visit.

Travel Time; I am amazed at how far and how fast this plane can take you.
I am seeing places and airports with little travel time.

Vibration; I have a very slight vibration at cruse flight. I know it's an
airplane, but I believe that the spinner that I made has a slight wobble.

Wiring; my RPM gauge stopped working during runnup so I trouble shot the
wires and then shut it down. I originally used crimp connectors. I went
through and soldered all of those connections and the RPM works again.

Flight Time; my goal is to fly 2 hours a day so that in 20 days I should
have my 40 hours. Every day I am working on something like the wiring,
waiting for weather, working, family etc. however, I am just having fun
logging flight time.

Thanks for all of your help! I never could have built a plane with out the
KRNETwork.

KR> It Flies!

2017-06-16 Thread Joe Nunley via KRnet
I flew my KR2 airplane for the first time!

I have been doing taxi testing with the tail up. Today I was lifting off
the ground and setting it back down. Then it was "pull the band aid off"
time. I lifted off and did a shallow climb out. On downwind I sped up to
110 mph. I did a long shallow approach on final. At touchdown I would
like to say that it was smooth and pretty, but I logged six landings and
was glad to keep it on the runway. When I cool down, I will do a really
good post flight and maybe try it again.

It wants to go fast. It's maneuverable.

Tho? not a KR builder, I do think Mark?s comments are most valuable?. from
experience, an ongoing organization must have a solid base and not all
responsibility on one or a few? this guarantees a continuation of the groups

I gain so much information just watching the site, i would hope that a base be

Thanks for the picts and brings a query to my mind? I?m building a different
airplane using a Geo 1,3 L engine converted to TBFI?. I had planned on 1/4 in
fuel lines that bring fuel from the wing tanks to a Facet pump that delivers to
the main? no connection from wing tanks to engine demand? Would like anyones
opinion on line size? jw
