KR> Brake Bleeding

Subject: Re: KR> Brake Bleeding

I do mine from the bottom up using a squirt can. Just put towels near the
top vent. Connect and squirt.

I also use a pressure gun from the bottom, but I found a small bolt that
fitted the fill hole in the master cylinder, I drill this through the centre
of the bolt, pushed a clear plastic tube over the end of the bolt, then
screwed in the top of master Cylinder, then if you over fill , the fluid
will travel up the tube so you can see it, then just remove the gun from the
bleeder and let it drain back down till the fluid is at the required level
in the master cylinder.

NO MESS to clean up.

The reservoir is very small. I installed mine on the inside of the firewall,
but then, I did not have a header tank taking up that space. The RV guys
install it on the engine side. I will be that it takes up less weight than the
reservoir on each master cylinder where they are contained on each cylinder.

Having done this brake bleeding only three times now on my KR-2, I am
definitely a believer in installing a remote and accessible reservoir for
the master cylinders. A plastic unit to visually check on preflight would
be just the thing. Where to install the reservoir may require some creative
thinking. A reservoir full of hydraulic oil is yet another added weight.

Put an end to that problem forever. Install master cylinders with a
separate reservoir. I like the clear ones so you can see when it is filling
up. Then get one of these and fill them from the bleeder. It is a good
candidate for a group buy, but not so expensive that it is not worth having
in your personal tool box.

I messed up my first one from leaving the fluid in it for a very long time.
I think this one is more tolerant than the first, but I would not leave
fluid in it when finished with the task.

I am glad I looked this up for you cause I now see that they are on sale and
will be ordering my new one today.

Thanks.

Got the brake lines reconnected to the main wheel brake cylinders on my
KR-2
today. Had to extend the Nylaflo tubing 1-1/2 inches due to moving the
wheels 3 inches further aft. I can see why some manufacturers pipe the top
of the master cylinder back to a reservoir. Bleeding the brake system is
fairly simple but messy and downright awkward on my KR-2 with the master
cylinders tucked away under the panel.

KR> Brake bleeding

2011-02-15 Thread laser...@juno.com
I used to do brakes (Rosenhaun) from the bottom up but dirty oil and
particulates settle to the bottom of the lines - so pumping it right back
up through the system doesn't seem the best way to me - besides I always
made a mess in the cockpit AND at the bottom as a hose comes off from
squeezing too hard on the pump handle.I was probably doing something
wrong . . .

These days I just crack the bleeder and pour fresh oil into the
reservoirs at the top. When I get fresh bright red oil coming out the
bottom I tighten the nut and top off the reservoirs and I'm done.
Gravity did my work for me.

I've got a vaccuum pump for brakes but haven't needed it. Another tool
for the collection.
