KR> Buying another aircraft kit

2008-10-12 Thread JIM VANCE
Mark,

You made my day!!! The trick is to get her to help with the fun things, like
sanding. That way, you can tell her "WE bought another kit!"

This is reason 3,278 that I'm glad to be single. If I were still married, I
would still be begging to go look at airplanes, let alone build two.

A very merry Christmas to all. With the weather like it is, stay inside, warm,
and deice your own system instead of the wings.

Not true. My wife insisted that I get back into flying after being away for
19 years. She pushed me to pick up a partially finished KR2. When it
started taking too long to finish, she said get that Q2 that is ready to
fly. So, now I have 2 planes(?). The KR needs lots of work. The Q2, I
managed to break on first flight, but it is now 2 work weeks from flying.
Rather than complaining, she says "don't forget my Honey Do list while you
play."

The answer is GET the RIGHT wife!

I have just showed up at home with four different airplanes so far. It gets
a lot easier after the first three.

Quite true, Larry. We started a KR2-S about 9 years ago.
My wife also got me back into flying after a hiatus of 17 years.
In fact, she didn't even know I used to fly until we'd been
married 3 years. When the discussion came up a few years
ago about reducing the wing incidence I was right at the stage
of glueing the spars to the fuselage. I decided to wait and see
   what the outcome was.

I happen to get a ride in a Kolb ultralight at OSH in '93 which
stuck in my mind. In '98, while bs'ing with my neighbor about
being able to fly an ultralight off his 800' deep pasture, he said,
"Mow 'er down!" I asked my wife if we could put the KR on a
back burner and get an ultralight. She said, "Only if it's a two
place." I got a Challenger (N142JL) which we built in 250 to
300 hours, put up a hanger at our house and fly from my
neighbor's pasture that butts up to our back yard.

One of these days I'll get back to the KR but I've had a whole
lot of fun with the Challenger the past 4+ years! :-) I don't
think I could ever go back to an airport after having my plane
right out my back door. The KR will have to wait until we get
   a bigger piece of land.

Never can have too many airplanes just too many wives.

Santa came a couple of days early. I just bought (more like stole) an almost
ready to fly Titan Tornado 1 project for $2k delivered. The kit alone sells for
$10,590. Got to break the news to my wife before it shows up.

I'm going to have to buy her a big ice scraper for her car as she isnt going to
be able to park in the new garage this winter, I dont even have the garage
doors hung and its full - 2 airplanes, 4 motorcycles, 2 snowmobiles, tractor,
snowblower, etc.

Merry Christmas
