2011-02-28 Thread Robin Macdonald
Hi to KRnet.

We survived the earthquake in one piece, the house is ok no damage. but we
have no water, no power, & phone only now & a gain, The power has only got
as far as over the back fence & my neighbour was kind enough to let me plug
in to his supply, hopefully we will get power today one week after. The town
is a mess you have probably seen more on TV than I have. We have been
isolated the rock cliffs are busy comming dowm & the road has been closed,
hopefully they will open today.

Many thanks for all those who have sent emails.

Robin.

Has any one heard anything from KR builder Robin Macdonald in New Zealand.
He lives very near the epicentre of the earthquake. I emailed him soon after
it happened but haven't heard anything.

My KR posts are not getting acknowledged can someone let me know if this is
getting through.

Thanks

2011-02-27 Thread Gavin Magill
Hi Peter

I also sent Robin an email on Friday to check how he was getting on but
have not heard back from him yet.

For those on the forum that aren't aware, Robin lives in the suburb of
Sumner in Christchurch, New Zealand which is one of the eastern
suburbs located very close to the epicentre of the 6.3 magnitude earthquake
which hit the city on Tuesday last week.

For those of us living down this part of the world the last week has been an
agonising time with the final death toll from the quake likely to exceed
200. Given New Zealand is a relatively small country most folks would know
of someone who lives in Christchurch or know of someone who has been
directly impacted by the earthquake.

As for why Robin hasn't answered his emails, it is more than likely that
power has yet to be restored to his home at this time. Looking at the Orion
Energy website it looks like they are working to restore power to Sumner and
a couple of other suburbs at the moment so hopefully Robin will be able to
get online soon to answer his emails. Please be aware however that I
suspect Robin's priorities may be more pressing than answering emails given
the destruction to property that has occured in the eastern suburbs of
Christchurch.

I am sure Robin will answer our emails just as soon as he can. In the
meantime I think I would speak for all when I say our thoughts and best
wishes go out to him and his family at this time.

Regards
Gavin Magill
Auckland NZ

I have called Robin's home number which rang out. Then rang his mobile
which went immediately to his message bank so I left a message letting him
know that the KRNet guys are all concerned for his and his families welfare
in NZ.

I left my number and will let everyone know as soon as I hear anything.

I'm in Hamilton NZ, I have tried email & phone to another person in
Christchurch with no success. A lot of landlines & cellphones are not
working in that area. The earthquake is a major disaster coming 5 months
after another one which was a lot higher on the Richter scale, but the
epicenter was deeper & further out to sea & was relatively was less
destructive. Aftershocks had continued right up till Feb 22. This last one
was only 5km deep & centred under the port causing massive damage, much loss
of life & many people still unaccounted for. Keep your fingers crossed for
Robin.
