Hi All, While going to look at the beautiful Point de Gaze on Jean Leader's
website I saw under "Articles" one on Hitches.

The drawings are quite clear and she has them for lefties and righties.
Lots of other beautiful lace there too!!

[lace] Rosalibre Tree of Life

2007-09-14 Thread Tamara P Duvall

Gentle Spiders,

I was on the phone with Cathy Belleville last night and she told me a
sad story. Apparently, she'd lent her Rosalibre Tree of Life for the US
exhibit at the OIDFA/Athens Congress last year and it never came back
to her; it seems to have totally disappeared.

It's a circular piece, ca 7.67" (19.5cm) in diameter. It depicts a
tree, composed of several, dark and light green branches with 3-d
leaves, which feed into the tree's trunk. The tree is flowering with
dark and light pink 5-petal 3-D flowers and a 3-D, blue/grey butterfly
is flying up to one of the flowers. The whole picture is "framed" in
brown.

It's beautiful and her "tour de force" in how much time and effort she
put into making it, and she'd like to have it back, if possible; she's
far too busy now to try and reroduce it. So she's asked me to ask you
if anyone of you had seen it at the Congress and if anyone perhaps
knows what might have happened to it...

Hello Mark,
I sure had fun adding myself to your map. Love the idea!! I can see that
there isn't anyone else from WV yet. Oh well, I really don't think there is
anyone close to me though.
Love your tatting and looking forward to seeing more patterns.

OK... I've been back to the map, and the "find your dot" message doesn't show
up - just as Jo said!!

I'm as new at this as anyone else, and I'm mystified!! But let's not give
up... it's such a great concept!

Hi Ilske -

I thought there was a good way to do this, but when Jo tried it, it didn't work
for her. But, here goes, in case you have better luck...

Go to the Lace Fairy website and access the Buddy Map through there (if you've
already bookmarked the site, your system may have saved old information and
what you get will be the sign-in page!). If you already have a "dot" on the
map, go all the way down to the bottom of the list of lacemakers and you should
see "View my dot". (or words to that effect). It will automatically take you
to your "dot", and you can click on "edit" (right beside "view my dot"), and
you'll be able to update or delete your picture and change your comments and
other information.

I haven't had any trouble adding my photo or updating my information. I hope
this works for most people, because I think it's a wonderful idea, and I've
enjoyed seeing where most of "us" are, and also who is near me! I'd like to
see "Arachne member" in comments (that just popped into my head... it's not in
my comments yet!)

Re: [lace] Re: Lace Bat Patterns

2007-09-14 Thread Adele Shaak
does anyone know of any lace pattern for a bat (flying variety, not
sporting)? Any size, any technique.

Hi Helen:

I have some books
I took some looks

I saw a cat
The cat was fat
But not a bat
And that was that

I saw more cats
I saw some hats
I saw some mats
But never bats

I saw no rats
I saw no gnats
I saw no bats
Even in tats
---

Sorry I couldn't find anything, though as I'm sure you already know,
there's a lovely *embroidered* bat in Hausdrachen.

Hope to see you at the RAL meeting this Sunday.

Re: [lace] Lace "Buddy" map

2007-09-14 Thread Joy Beeson

If you click on "Satellite" and keep clicking "+", you can
see a picture of my house, even showing our truck in the
park -- which was only ever parked there once, so we know
just when the picture was taken. But the red dot is away
out in the bike trails and on the other side of Wyland
Ditch, which changes name to Cherry Creek when it enters the
tourist area. (I would give directions from the dot to our
place in a private e-mail, but not in our open archives.)

[lace] Lace "Buddy" map

2007-09-14 Thread kudrnova
Fantastic!

Thanks to Lori to make the map and to Clay to write about it! This is a
marvelous thing, how to spread lacemaking all over the world ;-) ! I think,
that web has really enourmous power of sharing information and searching for
it and this is a wonderful illustration of it. And the more lacemakers will
become members of Buddy lace map, the bigger effort it will be for all others!
I tried it immediately and it really works - I suceeded to put myself there
and also to put the map on my pages http://lacespider.blog.cz/ (following
instructions under the button Put it on your side). Really fascinating -
thanks to all, who take care of this!

B.T.W., I've made my pages Lacemaking - game and creativity bi-lingual, there
are some articles for English-speaking guests -
http://lacespider.blog.cz/rubriky/in-english , the menu items are in Czech and
in English and most pictures in Gallery have English descriptions under the
picture (I am still completing the comments). Asside from lacemaking there are
some photos from travelling of our family in Gallery (Turistika a
fotografování), that's another of my hobbies, it shows the beauties of our
country.

Happy lacing to all and have a nice day,

Hello Spiders!

I have just discovered that Lori Howe has added a new feature to her already
incredible website! She has set up a "Buddy Map" for lacemakers! When you
visit the map, you'll see a map of the world. Actually, you see two maps of
the world. The top one allows you to explore various countries and see where
the lace activity is (or was...) in each country, along with related pictures
such as typical pillows and bobbins, and some of their lace. Very
interesting.

The bottom map is the new addition! You click on that map and get a list of
lacemakers around the world. If you select a country instead of the world,
you'll see dots that represent individual lacemakers who have added themselves
to the map! I added myself yesterday... and so far, the list is very short.
But it will be really fun to see the dots multiply on the map!! You don't
have to give a lot of information about yourself, but your name and
city/state/country is important. I added a picture as well.

Go have a look! Lori's website is http://lace.lacefairy.com
. From there, go to "International" on the menu
bar, and "Map Search" is the first option on that pop-up menu. Click that,
and then scroll down to the second map. Click that, and you'll see the map
with dots! Please do add yourself!

Once again, thank you, Lori, for being the keeper of this amazing site!

Clay

[lace] England on the map

2007-09-14 Thread Jean Nathan
It's actually the "Lacemaking in Europe Map that's wrong". If you click on
the UK on the top map, you get the coloured map with the whole of the UK in
blue. If you put your mouse pointer anywhere over the blue bit the label
"Lacemaking of England" appears. I have no problem with England the link
down the side which is mainly England, although Malcolm Cox is actually in
the Irish Republic, which not only isn't England, but also isn't part of the
UK. Haven't check other links to see if they are in England or if they are
in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Might seen trivial to some, but
that's because a lot of people don't understand the difference between
England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom, or that the Scots and Welsh
and Northern Irish have different identities to each other just the same as
the Portugese and Spanish, and the Belgians and French.

Assuming that the coloured map is part of Buddymapping, I've emailed them.
