Re: [lace] finished project
What a really neat piece of work. I had plans to do more of this but the years and the list of pieces i want to work gets longer. Not enough bobbin making lace hours in a day:-) My own current piece is now only a day or maybe two from completion. A small piece and not sure whether to put it into a coaster or a small frame!! Sue T in Dorset UK where the galeforce winds have subsided and the sun is shining again today. I just finished a Bedfordshire edging from Barbara Underwood's book. http://laceioli.ning.com/photo/bedfordshire-bobbin-lace-3?context=latest Not as spectacular as some of our members, but I want to get a really strong grounding so I can eventually design it. Re: [lace] Which way is better?
Hi I use cake wire for the needlelace flowers I make. The cake wire comes in several different thicknesses and the fine one is suitable. It is usually covered in green or white but as it is absorbant (probably paper) if you want the wire to match the colour of your thread, then just colour it with a felt tip pen and let it dry.Of course make sure that the colour will not run onto anything else. I also have a selection of coloured cake wires, but I am not sure where these can be bought as someone got me mine.I also stiffen my needlelace flowers by slightly spraying them with non-perfumed hairspray. Although there have been warnings that this can discolour the thread I have never found that it does.If you spray your petals on the pillow, then make sure that you have some sort of plastic covering under the lace so that the colour doesn't come out of your pricking card, or whatever you are using. Just another idea Maureen E Yorks UK where it is currently very cloudy and about to rain - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] finished piece
Maureen Next I'll do pattern 8. I'm going through Underwood's book pattern by pattern. This one and the next three were originally intended to be sewn together and used to decorate a ring pillow. Since I enlarged it and used gray linen, obviously, it will end up as a doily. Lorelei - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Hacked email - malware software to fix it
Hello, I apologize that my yahoo account got hacked and sent out an email to all my email addresses. Never open anything from me or a weblink unless I have written in the subject line. My IT dept recommends the following software that is free - Malwarebytes - http://shop.malwarebytes.org The free version does not have automatic run features so you must manually go into the software to do a full scan. It will remove take control hackers and other malware. This software will remove malware that Norton and the other antivirus software does not pick up. If you purchase the software does have auto run features every so many days. Re: [lace] Which way is better?
Dear Maureen et al, What is cake wire made of? Does anyone know? I dilute the Jana Novak stiffener, at least that's more or less where I got it from, with water. Then I take a small paintbrush with the stiffener on it and just touch the lace. I did this for Rosemary Shepard's {sp?] flowers, which are in fairly thick linen, and it was absorbed and didn't get onto the pricking or pillow at all. Sort of just paint only on the lace. Stops connections between the threads, and any connections with the pricking. Gives much more control. I can readily see that hairspray would wash off, but does the acrylic stiffener wash out? Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA where the weather will again be lovely, but I have to sit inside slaving at the computer on non-lace-related work that I am heartily sick of, and which will probably continue until next Friday. Yuck. Hi Maureen wrote: I use cake wire for the needlelace flowers I make. The cake wire comes in several different thicknesses and the fine one is suitable. [lace] how to clean brass
Hello All! Worchestershire sauce of course!! There are so many little bits bobs of brass that I use for CQ (crazy quilting), many of which are vintage corroded, that it's helpful to have a handy inexpensive cleaning solution. Worchestershire to the rescue! Soak the item(s) in a shallow bowl, rinse dry. If it's really gunked up, an additional treatment of baking soda/Worchestershire paste applied with a toothbrush usually dislodges the stuck on stuff. I have successfully cleaned lockets, charms, beads, bracelets etc. with Lea Perrins, so YES, I'm a satisfied customer! Re: [lace] how to clean brass
If you don't like paying the price for prepared hot sauces, or would rather consume it, use salt, baking soda and fresh lemon juice in equal amounts (or plain vinegar instead of the lemon juice).** There is a washing-brass-pin-recipe too - a spoonful of liquid dish detergent, the same spoonful of vinegar, and about a cup of hot water, mix in a glass vessel. Soak the pins until clean. Variations here and there on the web ;) On Sat, Jun 9, 2012 at 11:44 AM, hottl...@neo.rr.com wrote: Hello All! Worchestershire sauce of course!!
