Is anyone making this type of lace?- There are still a few of us playing with Rosa Libre. I was told (but haven't checked the accuracy) that Cathy Belleville seems to have left lace altogether. It's such a shame as she was such an excellent teacher and designed some beautiful lace (not just in RL). I know that Arachneans Tamara Duvall and Jeanette Fischer have designed pieces (especially Jeanette), as have I. I think at least Jeanette is still designing RL (and so am I). Can we please hear from anyone who's been doing anything in RL, to see what's happening? I would love to see pictures of anything you've done that deviates from, or expands on, Cathy's book. Robin P. Re: [lace] Bobbin question
Tapestry bobbins will hold a fair amount of yarn but can be expensive. I used dowels inserted into wooden wheels bought at a craft shop (Michael's or AC Moore in the US). The wheels are sold in packages of 10 or 20 and are intended for making toy trucks. Mine were about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and I put them on the end as a head, with the yarn wound below on the dowel. That would be Cathy Belleville. A while back her website about the lace was hacked. Re: [lace] Rosa Libre
My memory may not be exact but I think I was in the last, or one of the last, Rosa Libre classes. The teacher (name escapes me at the moment) said that her job was changing so she would have no time available for teaching lace during the several years she would have her new work position. When her work situation changed again, she might be able to return to lace and teaching. I know she had already developed more patterns for a second book, but all that was put on 'hold'. Since she was the only person teaching the subject, it has dropped out of all conference lists. It's an interesting lace variation so I hope it isn't lost. The one book out has very good directions for making the three dimensional flowers and leaves. And a butterfly. [lace] dieting for textile auctions & puncetto
Hello All! Thanks to Jeri for posting info about the recent auction. When I read SR's reply about not eating, I thought she had spent her grocery money on a winning bid! ;-) But she is right--with eye candy like that, who needs to eat?! Both pairs of gentleman's embroidered slippers got my attention if not my bid. On the Italian Needlework blog (http://italian-needlwork.blogspot.com) there is a link posted to the Smithsonian for a free download on puncetto. It's also a nice reminder that Italian Needlework has lots of links where you can get lost for days! A lady in the group I attend has been making a window curtain and has used Czech bobbins (Eve correct me if I've got the country wrong - memory not what it used to be) which are very large and hold a lot of thread.
