[lace] Re:back home from OIDFA

2012-07-12 Thread Ilske Thomsen
Dear All,
we had a wonderful time in France. There wasn't a arachne meeting but I met for
the first time some ladies from the list I didn't know personally before. We
had nice chats and laughed a lot.
The rooms for the exhibitions in the congress centre, the poppy-project and the
competition pieces, were unfortunately so small that the things couldn't be
regarded well. I am afraid I can't tell you much about.
There is an exhibition on the former castle about laces in Normandy which is
such wonderful I spent over three hours there. It's till september. If anybody
is coming to France now don't hesitate going there.

Greetings Ilske

did an article on lost industries. Todays piece was about Honiton lace and
they did a good interview piece with Pat Perryman working her lace and talking
about the Honiton lace industry in Victorias reign. I even had enough warning
to fire up the recorder so I can watch it again.

[lace] Idrija lace supplies

2012-07-12 Thread Robin D
I got a bunch of large bobbins with a couple of kits...I don't know if they
are a specific type of bobbin, but the ladies in my area call the
clunkers. They are 5+ inches long and use them to do Idrija lace all the
time...though I don't use a bolster. I tried and my bobbins got tangled
too much. SO I use a large flat pillow. *shrug*

I did find the following places you can maybe get what you want.

http://www.bobbinmaker.com/idrijabobbins.html
http://www.designsbymarguccio.com/bobbins.htm

Here's a lace group you might contact
http://www.blen.net/segunda.htm%20http://www.blen.net/segunda.htm
Also OIDFA might have someone who can help ya.

You might try contacting the Idrija lace school and see if they can put you
in touch with a suppler. http://www.cipkarskasola.si/ANG/index.html

Good luck!

Is anyone going to the Bobowa (Poland) bobbin lace festival October 3-7?
They use the large bobbins and I am sure will have vendors.
Unfortunately I'll be heading back to the States at that time. Didn't know the

Maybe next year I try to include this in my schedule.

[lace] Lace Magazine

2012-07-12 Thread Sue Fink
G'day all,

My English Lace magazine arrived here in Masterton, New Zealand, yesterday.
Say, for the sake of argument that it was posted on the last day of April,
it has taken two and a half months to get here!! I was on the point of
e-mailing the Hollies to say I had been missed off the list. It seems to me
that they are using the cheapest postage rate they can, in an effort to
reduce costs. It was my understanding that there is now no sea mail between
NZ and UK, but there must some really old airplanes on this route if it is
taking so long!!! The thing that alerted me to the fact that my mag had not
yet arrived was that I was aware that subs were due and I usually paid mine
by the end of June. Hopefully they won't take us off the mailing list just
yet!!

Sincerely,

Sue Fink,

Masterton, New Zealand

[lace] Lace Magazine

2012-07-12 Thread Jane Partridge

Sue,

Please accept the Guild's apologies for the long delay, and thank you
for your patience. We suspect that the overseas magazines were sent out
surface mail by the mailing house (which should not have happened), and
they may not have been processed as quickly as we would have liked
before posting - as you quite rightly say they should have been posted
at the end of April. Certainly items can still be sent from the UK by
surface mail, which tends to take around six to eight weeks. We
discussed possible solutions to this problem at our Exec meeting last
weekend and hopefully you will receive your magazines a lot faster from
now on - the first issue of the new membership year is due out at the
end of this month, and we are well aware that there may be some late
renewals!.

If any other overseas members of The Lace Guild have not received their
April magazine (which had the renewal slip sent with it) yet, can they
contact the Hollies, please? Email holl...@laceguild.org Membership
rates are the same as last year, as they were not increased at the AGM.

RE: [lace] Lace Magazine

2012-07-12 Thread Ruth Budge
The problem may not necessarily have been the mailing house at all - but
some sort of delay/oversight of one of the postal services involved along
the route.I received my April issue of Lace here in Australia quite
promptly.

However, only about a month ago, I also received a letter sent before
Christmas from a friend in England .. it had inadvertently been sent to
Thailand before being redirected onto Australia. We're well used to mail
for Australia being sent to Austria, but Thailand is a first!

Thanks, Robin, and to all who answered my inquiry about Spanish or Idrija
bobbins.  There are a lot of beautiful bobbins out there.

I found what I was
looking for at Realce, very reasonably priced.  Of course the
air shipping
was a lot, but the total price was still reasonable.

As always, this group is
a wonderful resource.

Thanks!
