Re: [lace] lace clothing
I think designer clothing is, and always has been, a bit over the top, but when moderated, sets the trends for off-the-rack. So I can safely say that I have never worn designer fashions, and even in my youth would never have strutted my stuff like this! But golly, if the clothes were not so transparent, they would be gorgeous! Clay Sent from my iPad On Feb 4, 2013, at 4:55 AM, Sue Duckles s...@duckles.co.uk wrote: Now that's true!!! - Original Message - For ladies with young bodies, not old ladies like me. http://ru-tkani.livejournal.com/147911.html#cutid1 Lorelei - It was fun to see the lace clothes. For the general public, I can see some of these styles being worn, but with a lining. I have been looking at some clothing catalogs I get (low-end modest price variety) and have noticed a high number of fashions including lace. I counted over 20 items in one catalog with lace on them or made entirely of lace. Some were crocheted and some machine lace. Short bolero lace sweaters seem to be a new fashion. There were also long sweaters and blouses made entirely of lace, as well as lace trimming on many different styles of garments. When we pursue our 'Wear Lace In Public' campaign. we may need to make a special effort to let people know that our lace is handmade and unique. Re: [lace] lace clothing
All, My husband I went to a dinner for Cheyenne Frontier Days last week. Miss Frontier her Lady-in-Waiting were there. They both were wearing white lace tops (with black under tops), jeans hand tooled cowboy boots. The lace tops were machine made, but very nice. Normally, they wear cowboy shirts or something similar, so this was a nice change. [lace] Silk Clothing - Lace Thread Question
Hello to One and All! This Saturday while yard saleing with my neighbor, I purchased cream silk dupioni curtains for $2US. The silk is in very good condition. I want to make a suit out of this fabric. Years ago I've designed a cluny style lace for my suits. Each lace pattern is made individually to follow the cut of each individual clothing pattern. In addition to the lace trim around the edges it has a motif running from the back neckline down to the center of the back. Then hand applied to the clothing. My dilemma...I prefer the color blue over white/cream clothing. (I don't need to look larger than I'm already am! I'm no longer a size 6!) So dye the silk to the color that I want and make my lace white. (Which I prefer and I have a lot of thread for this on hand.) Or keep the silk the cream color and make the lace a royal blue. So here's my question. For blue lace...what thread would you recommend and why? I'm usually making lace in rayon or linen threads. But for this piece I don't want to use rayon. Re: [lace] Silk Clothing - Lace Thread Question
If I was making a silk suit, I would want the lace to be silk too. Pipers silks are wonderful, and I would use those. If you decided on coloured threads they carry a wonderful rainbow of colours as well as white, cream and black, and in all sort of thicknesses. I really like the gloss silks, as I have a weakness for shiny silk! Though I also use the spun silks. http://www.pipers-silks.com/ (no connection - just a happy customer) Sue sueba...@comcast.net - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace-chat] Richard III's remains identified!!
Hi David: I think they talk about Shakespeare as having created the humpback, the withered arm, plus he did a hatchet-job on Richard III's character. I wonder if in Shakespeare's day they would have seen the scoliosis (which developed on during Richard's adolescence) as an outward sign of the evil within - absolutely tailor-made for emotional drama! Interesting that the descendent of Richard's family that they found, Michael Ibsen, was the last in the line. This type of DNA goes from a mother to all of her children, male and female, but only descends further through the female - men don't pass it on. Michael Ibsen has a sister but she has no children. So - one generation more and they wouldn't have had any descendant to compare DNA with. Adele North Vancouver, BC (west coast of Canada) Dear Friends, I find this new archaeological discovery just fascinating. The use of DNA technology seems to be going ahead in leaps and bounds. Hope this tiny URL works for you:- http://tinyurl.com/anryorr My only concern is that from my extensive reading on Richard III, authors have lead me to understand that the myth of his scoliosis was created by Shakespeare, but perhaps that was merely the withered arm. [lace-chat] Richard III's remains identified
I switched on BBC News Channel on the TV especially to watch the announcement. Scientists with specialities in the identification each gave a presentation before the announcement that the remains are those of Richard III. It was extremely interesting to hear how the work they had done and the evidence they had considered, with graphics and photographs had led to the conclusion - until the BBC decided to interrupt it for breaking news - MP Chris Huhne had changed his plea to guilty over asking his then wife to take penalty points for speeding for him on her driving license! Since when was an MP lying news? I was so cross that they'd interrupted something so historic for that! They went back to the press conference for Richard III, only to interrupt it again for an update on the Chris Huhne situation. Fortunately they went back to the press conference for the actual announcement that the remains are those of Richard III and that they will be re-interred in Leicester Cathedral. Absolutely brilliant. Jean in Poole, Dorset, UK To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat y...@address.here. Re: [lace-chat] Richard III's remains identified!!
I seem to remember reading, or hearing, that almost contemporary historians (to Richard III) began a hatchet job on him very soon after he died and Shakespeare followed that line of thought/propaganda. Hi All, I see no one mentioned Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. It's a mystery story about Richard III and it says he did not kill the little princes. I'll have to get it out, it's been a while since I read it. Really good and for some reason I thought it was true. Thanks David, really interestingg!!
