[lace] Kazaman Spam?

2014-11-07 Thread Jeriames
Dear Karen in Malta,

Is someone using your e-mail address to send mail that says in the inbox:

_Kazaman@gmail44.com_ (mailto:kaza...@gmail44.com) is awaiting your
reply. Accept?

It does not look like something you would send to Arachne! It does not
have the [lace] indicator. I've been deleting these in the last week.

Do you know about this?

[lace] Bobbin weight

2014-11-07 Thread Lyn Bailey
I've been wondering about this for a few weeks. There comes a point where
you don't remember where you learned some things, especially lace, where the
information can come from books, lectures, informal conversations, Arachne.
I believe I learned that the weight of a bobbin helps it to tension the
lace. But even when I'm using the correct bobbin for the weight of the
thread, from thin to thick, I still have to tension virtually every stitch
at some point. I'm wondering if the weight of the bobbin helps the hitch to
do its job. When I transport my pillow anywhere and it tilts, I spend a
fair amount of time fixing the hitches on the bobbins. When the pillow is
stationary, and keeps sitting in the same place, there are many fewer
problems with hitches.

Is the original premise a common one?
Is there any validity in the second premise?

Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA where it has been damp, chilly, and
cloudy for the past several days. I've just seen blue sky for the first
time in 3 days.

Re: [lace] Bobbin weight

2014-11-07 Thread Carolinadgg
Yes it, is. The size of bobbins have to be related with the threads used. But,
maybe it makes sense for you if the pillow is in a degree of inclination in
order that the bobbins hung, so the weight of them helps to tension.
For example, when the lace is worked completely horizontal as it is made in
centre Europe the bobbins are litlle size and threads very fine. So, there is
not so important to tension, but it is only necessary to acommodate the threads.
Hope this helps

[lace] Computer tech help if possible, please

2014-11-07 Thread scotlace
I have phoned my local computer shop but the person there is not familiar with
Mozilla Firefox. Somehow my computer has gone into full screen and I lose all

My question is does anyone
know of a key or combination of keys which will restore the status quo? I waa
told to try F10 but that doesn't work and I had already tried Escape before
phoning.

2014-11-07 Thread Agnes Boddington
Hello Patricia

Have you tried system restore?
When you swtich the computer on, you get a screen with shortcuts etc.
There should be a search bar (mine is bottom left). In it type "system
restore", and a list of programmes comes up incl. system restore or some
similar name.
Click on it and on the screen you'll get "open system restore".
Next screen says something like: "Restore system files and settings".
There should be a list of several restore points.
Choose one and click on next, and it will say "Confirm your restore point".
Cliock "Finish" and the computer should go back to an earlier point in time.
This may solve the problem.

[lace] bobbin weight

2014-11-07 Thread Lorelei Halley
Lyn
I think some tensioning is always necessary, regardless of bobbin weight
relative to thread size. I just do it differently. For fine thread laces it is
enough to just stroke the bobbins in a downward direction, like petting them.
For thicker threads, especially thicker linens, actually tugging on each pair
relative to every other is necessary.

The Torchon Tug

The Torchon Tug is an awesome force
To keep all those passives in line.
If they start in to waiver all over the place
Just give them a tug and they're fine.

A Point Ground Pull is a different affair.
The thread is so fragile and thin.
A Torchon Tug here would wreak havoc galore
And probably pop out a pin.

And Bedfordshire lace is a class on its own
With techniques to avoid any grief
Give a good Torchon Tug to tighten a trail
But watch out when making a leaf.

'Cause a leaf in this lace needs the greatest of care
In keeping the tension just right.
The first thousand leaves are the worst I am told
And I only make two in a night!

Much much lighter than midlands (especially spangled midlands) - and you let
them hang over the edge of the dome of the pillow to provide the necessary

[lace] Retirement

2014-11-07 Thread Noelene Lafferty
Retirement.

They all promised me
when retirement was due,
I'd be doing so much with my lace.
I'd have oodles of time
To plan and create,
And have projects all over the place.

But then the day came,
And I planned to sit down
With all of that thread that I'd bought.
With pins and my pillows
And bobbins galore
And great piles of books just to sort.

But where does the time go?
I really can't say<
The days seem to disappear fast.
As the days now fly by
I seem to do LESS
Just where did I find time in the past!
