[lace] 2016 Arachne Lace Bookmark Exchange

2016-02-26 Thread Lin Hudren
Hello Everyone.

Firstly, I would like to thank all those participants in the bookmark
exchange last year as it was rushed and everyone managed to make it
happen. So, this year I am compensating by stretching it out a bit
longer. We had an awesome turnout which just adds to the wonderfulness of
Aracheans.

This year the schedule will go like this:

March 1-18 Sign Ups

March 20 Exchange partner assignments made and emailed out

June 1 All bookmarks should be in the mail (receipt 7-10 days
after this)

Same rules apply as the previous bookmark and card exchanges: send in
name, snail mail address, email address, how many bookmarks you wish to
make and any geographical preferences to me at *linhud...@gmail.com
*. After making your bookmark(s) please take a
picture and email directly to Jenny Brandis (je...@brandis.com.au) who once
again is a dear heart and will be posting all on her web site and/or to me (
linhud...@gmail.com) and I will forward to her. If you wonder if your
partner was able to send in a photo of her bookmark to you, just send a
photo upon receipt and Jenny will make sure everyone is represented
accordingly. We will be following up to make sure we get photos of all of
them so if you think you will have a problem, just let me know. Thanks.

Last year Jenny updated all the patterns submitted to her on the bookmark
and card exchange web pages. If you submit your pattern to her, I am sure
she will be most happy to add that to the accumulation from over the
years. These are much appreciated for inspiration and eye candy. Thank
you.

Any problems, just let me know. If you are going to be late, please let
your partner and myself know. If you have to drop out for some reason,
please personally contact me (linhud...@gmail.com) as soon as possible so I
can ensure everyone has a partner. Thank you.

If this is your first time or you are participating for an additional time,
you are going to have lots of fun. Any type of lace and pattern is
appropriate. Any skill level is welcome. This is creative license at its
best. Don't be shy. This is your time to shine.

Thanks and enjoy as much as I plan to.

Hugs, Lin and the Mali

I hope that's because everyone is too busy making lace to talk about it

I'd been too busy to notice but yes, the list is very quiet at the
moment - I hope that's because everyone is too busy making lace to talk
about it

I finished the tape lace snail I started on New Year's Day a couple of
week's ago, but haven't had time to take it off the pillow yet or to
mount last year's lace project :-(
It's getting close to the start of the gardening season so by the time
I've mounted those pieces I probably won't start a new lace project
until autumn.

[lace] A Big Thank You

2016-02-26 Thread Karen ZM
Some of you may remember that I asked for opinions and suggestions
regarding silk thread to use for working a wedding veil. Well, after
sifting through the info you all sent, I worked a few small samples with
various silk threads and the clear winner was the 80/3 spun silk from
Piper's. Luckily enough, Susan had enough to supply it from the same batch
form me - I calculated (generously) I would need around 9,000 metres and
Susan has a little over that, so I have taken the lot. She has also kindly
sent me the first two 300m cops so that I can get cracking on the first
border while she prepares the rest of them, which I am now not in any hurry
for.

Drawing the pattern (around 1.3m in diameter) took me around 65 hours, and
I also needed some help from two of my Friends' children who are
draughtsmen and work extensively with AutoCAD, but I finally got there. I
felt so proud when I got it printed out and the girl who printed it for me
was amazed that I drew it myself! I was also happy as it had already taken
two previous visits to the print shop, but needed more modification each
time. It could not be printed on one sheet, but had to be two, which I then
matched on a generous overlap. I printed two copies, one to keep whole and
another one to cut into pieces as I have to work them.

Last Friday I had a total hip replacement done and I returned home two days
ago. While I am mending and having to take it easy, I have wound my bobbins
and am now ready to set off on this adventure.

Anyway, a very big thank you to all who helped out. I hope, eventually, to
be able to show you a photo of the finished product.

Karen in Malta.
