[lace] RE: IOLI convention
Elizabeth Correa -- I look forward to meeting you at the IOLI convention. We will be there a couple of days beforehand. What class will you be in? I am in the morning Tatting class - making the necklace shown on the IOLI convention list of classes. ( class 514 I think). It is always fun to meet up with others on this list, and I have made many friends though the list, and meeting them at Convention. I will have a husband tacking on!! I hope there will be some other husbands there, so he can find someone to talk to while I am busy learning tatting!! The Husband he has made friens with for the last 2 conventions we have been to, is unable to come this time, - so I hope he finds someone else to befriend! Saves me worrying about him getting bored. :) Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz. lizl...@bigpond.com - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Bacton Altar Cloth
Thank you, Louise for posting about the Bacton Altar Cloth: Very interesting! The piece has been much mended and well taken care of, presumably because it is such a special piece. In Janet Arnold's book from 1988, Queen Elizabeth's Wardrobe Unlock'd, there are a couple illustrations in the Stowe Inventory part of Chapter IX (386, 387 on p.293) of the same piece of embroidery. The text says: A slip of vine, caterpillars, insects and birds, two details from a large panel of white ribbed silk with an additional weft of silver threads, embroidered with polychrome silks, said to have belonged to Blanche Parry, c. 1590-1600. The Church of St Faith, Bacton. "Splashed over the papers is the identification of an altar cloth in a small church in Herefordshire as a piece of a dress from Elizabeth 1st. It is being conserved by BRP: and there is a lovely short film on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD1Fy1WGqLk It appears that this story is linked to a new book : the private life of the Tudors." -Karen in rainy, cold Washington, DC - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Lace espadrilles
I have a pair of the black ones. They are, of course, not crochet, but a machine torchon type pattern. They are very comfortable, and very inexpensive. The lace pattern shows up better on the white (and pink) but black goes better with my wardrobe. I've worn them to lace demonstrations and to lace meetings. Last summer, WalMart sold cute & comfortable "crocheted lace" espadrilles. Would you believe--they are back this year! Black, ecru & hot pink! I've posted a pic of mine on Arachne Flickr. [lace] OIDFA Congress
Four people from my lace group are going to OIDFA this year. The rest of us are envious. We hear all about their plans and turn a bit green. I did get to go to one in the past and enjoyed it very much. The OIDFA in 2020 in Estonia intrigues me. That's far enough away, if I begin saving now, I might be to save up the funds to be able to go. And if I go that far away from my home, I'd want to look around a bit at some other places (Copenhagen?) and make a real trip of it. It gives me a goal to work for. Meanwhile, I have a bookmark I need to finish, and some plants to get in the ground in my garden. It was quite a relief to discover that I am not the only one not going to Slovenia!! Oh, how I wish I could be there but I am also pinning my hopes on Brugge! Re: [lace] OIDFA Congress
>From my perspective, a one-time invitation today of how to find me - is enough for people I'd love to meet. At the IOLI conventions in the U.S., lodging, meals, lectures, sales rooms and activities are all in one hotel, making a lunch meeting fairly easy to organize. This is not the case during the 3-day business portion of OIDFA Congresses. There have to be multiple hotels because they are not able to accommodate everyone in one hotel. There does not appear to be much lunch time on the schedule, if we wish to attend all the lectures at the Congress venues. And, I remember it takes a long time for servers to take food orders from a group of chattering women, wait time to prepare the food, time deliver the food, time to eat, and then the complications of paying for it. All with people whose first language is not English. Jeri - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Honiton with rectangles
Adele, thank you so much for posting! I was having trouble imagining the collar from your description so it was kind of your friend to send photos to share. Love the bird, thistle & shamrocks (??). Does your friend ever wear her collar? It is stunning & would look very chic indeed on a light weight cashmere sweater, perhaps with a cameo. It's too pretty to be trapped in a drawer! Re: [lace] OIDFA Congress
Dear Jeri, me too doesn’t know any Slovenian lacemaker personally but why could we fix a time to meet each other on a certain point at the OIDFA-place and found a corner we could chat to each other. Or why not ask the ladies organizing the congress for a place. Years ago the congress took place in the Netherlands I looked for a restaurant in internet and ask there if a group of people could came on a certain time for lunch and remember we were a big group and had a lot of fun. My hotel in Ljubljana for example has different possibilities for lunch or diner why not ask there. Let’s find out how many will be there and fix a time and a day and than ask. Re: [lace] OIDFA Congress
Dear Jeri, How I wish I could be in Slovenia attending the congress and meeting you and other Arachne members. I have made some Idrija lace and want to do more and would love to have learned more about it and the lacemakers who make it. But I am a few years ahead of you in age and not an experienced traveller, so decided I couldn't manage it. I am almost regretting my decision - but maybe next time, in Bruges, which I know well. I hope you have a great time and meet up with many Arachne members. I hope to hear all about it in due course. Re: [lace] OIDFA Congress
Your message, Jeri, makes me feel a bit envious of all those of you who will be in Ljubljana! I would love to attend the Congress, as I am especially fond of Idrija Lace. But unfortunately the expenses for such a trip are too high. I will have to wait for... Bruges perhaps? I will start saving from now on! By then, I will also be happy to meet as many Arachneans as possible. So many years together makes me feel as if I knew many of you! I am sure you will meet many Arachneans Jeri. Enjoy yourself a lot! It is too quiet again. So, let me ask Will you be attending the OIDFA Congress in Slovenia? This is an *invitation* to meet me ! There is no one I know in Slovenia whom we could ask to coordinate a group meeting. However, I'd love to meet you individually. Look for a 5' 2" woman nearing age 80, in a very bright pink hat, which I'm planning to wear every day in order to be found. Please approach me and introduce yourself. Know that if I'm with someone, it is possible that the other person will also be an Arachne member. Hoping this will add some hugs and extra sunshine to your experience. Re: [lace] Honiton With Rectangles?
Thanks for sharing this (and posting the link so I can get to it easily). Definitely an interesting piece, though the pivoted bars are unusual. May I appeal to anyone sharing photos on Arachne to post a link to them. It makes life so much easier. Mm..I may need to take this last request back - on going to the end of the original message to delete it, I noticed the link to Flickr. I don't usually notice all that, but because the cursor on my iPad would not obey, I looked at it for longer than usual. If I had a tail, I think I would tuck it between my legs right now ð Regards to all, Karen in Malta. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
