[lace] Barcelona

2017-10-05 Thread Janice Blair
Just got back from a Mediterranean cruise which started with a few days in
Barcelona.  I had asked before on Arachne about lace in Barcelona and was
provided with two shops that may have had something to see.  Casa Felix on
Pl. Villa de Madrid, 4 had a couple of Bridget Cook books in Spanish which I
already had in English.  The guy there said that was all he had for bobbin
lace, it looked more like a fabric shop.  Merceria Santana, Avenida Portal
de L'Angel, 26, had some thread but that was all I could see. DH didn't seem
fazed by the bras and panties on sale when he went in with me.
I was unable to get to Arenys to see the museum as there was so much else to
see in Barcelona plus our visit was during the end of summer festival so there
was much more going on in the city than normal.  We enjoyed the evening
parades and demonstrations of local music and dancing.
Had a lovely time at Pisa, in Rome and at Pompeii.  So much to see, but no
lace, and as we were on organized tours we had no time to explore. I can check
off places that were on my bucket list. I was grateful the list was quiet
while I was away as I had so many personal emails to deal with.Janice

[lace] metallic equivalent?

2017-10-05 Thread Marianne Gallant
I just came across a pattern that uses Moravia metallic 80/2 and I can't
find any information about it, other than ordering it from Moravia. Does
anyone know what metallic would be close to it? Brenda's book only lists
40/2 and 60/2 for the Moravia metallic, but not the 80/2.
Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

*Marianne*

Re: [lace] Lace Group scam -- warning

2017-10-05 Thread Beth McCasland
Alice,
Sorry your guild was hit, and thank you for a heads up! At first I thought
about whether or not there was a receipt, but then it occurred to me that
we (my local guild) have requests for funds within the guild for upcoming
costs - such as when we fund a teacher's travel - therefore no receipt.
I'll forward your message to my guild's executive committee.

Beth,

(and currently I'm the President of Lacemakers of Puget Sound)

[lace] Lace Group scam -- warning

2017-10-05 Thread lacel...@frontier.com
This just happened to my lace group in the USA.
My treasurer received an email from "me" requesting a check mailed
immediately.  When questioned, the scammer said it was for supplies for PLS
from a vendor.  Send the check to Ann Carpenter in Reno, Nevada.  It was
over $1000.

A couple emails later, my treasurer changed the subject line on an email and
it came to me instead of the scammer.  My reply of puzzlement let my
treasurer take action before damage was done.  The whole bank account was
closed and will be reopened today with a new number.  Also, she's filing a
police report with name and address of scammer, plus info that the mailed
check would be delivered Friday.

I don't think my computer was hacked.  I think someone researched lace groups
and pulled out the president and treasurer's emails and group name.  Be sure
you have procedures set up to verify billings to your lace group before
sending checks.  This could happen to any organizaation.

Re: [lace] help finding books

2017-10-05 Thread N.A. Neff
Hi Sharon,

A search on Google produced these leads:

April Lind's page on the ning group LACEIOLI:
laceioli.ning.com/profile/AprilLind?xg_source=activity
She says the first book is out of print, but you might message her directly
if that's the one you want, and you can probably buy the second directly
from her.

The other link that might be of interest is to an entry for the
second booklet: www.brandis.com.au/arachne/covers/Book032.html
You might ask Jenny about the books in case she knows a source for the
first one--I don't think she is on Arachne anymore so won't see your
message.

HTH,
Nancy
back in Connecticut, USA, but not for long -- Ithaca lace days this
