Re: [lace] Threads for Lace book
Thank you for your books, Brenda. I use them all the time and find them very useful even for the customers at my shop who do needlepoint and other fiber related projects. They have been very valuable. Look forward to purchasing Edition 7 while I am at convention in July. Re: [lace] caterpillar
Good morning - If you go to this website you will find a tatted bird on a wire along with a snail and a flower. http://www.palmettotatters.org/patterns/FavoritePatterns.shtml I've made many of these for table favors for our needleworkers guild retreat and they were very well received. And then taking Lauren's idea, I think it would work. HI Marji; I have not seen a pattern, but I can imagine one :-) Using maybe size 20 thread, make a series of split rings with, oh, 8 stitches per side. On the third ring do 8 sts one side but 4ds then join to the paperclip, then 4 more ds. Make 5 rings total. If you do the last ring unevenly, the you could have antennae from the thread ends. R1: 8/8 R2:8/8 R3:8/4+4 R4 8/8 R5:6/10 Cut ends about 1/4" away for antennae Little details you could add yourself, like picots for feet or a bead for an eye. Good luck and have fun with it! [lace] Tatters in Illinois
Thanks to those who responded to my plea for a tatter in the Rockford/ Springfield, Illinois area. I appreciate all of the suggestions of books, etc. I will certainly send those recommendations on to her. I looked through my IOLI member list book and round lots of folks in Illinois but I don't think I can afford the time to google all of the other towns to see if any are close. We did have a great time on our travels. The Abraham Lincoln Museum in Springfield is a must see. Thanks again. [lace] Looking for a tatter
Good evening everyone - My husband and I, one daughter and two grandchildren recently drove from Lincoln, NE to the Iowa State Fair and the Illinois State Fair. The trip was mainly for the purpose of judging the honey division at those respective fairs. But with some family along, we made it also a vacation. What a great time we had. At the Illinois State Fair I reacquainted with a lady I had met last year who watched me tat. She said she wished she could learn tatting. So many people say that but you never know who is really serious about it. So this year when she arrived with her honey and beeswax entries she remembered that I did tatting and once again said how much she would like to learn. So - it dawned on me that surely someone on these groups that I am involved with would be in her area and could teach her tatting. In Illinois, she is in the Rochester/Springfield area. If there is anyone who would be interested in contacting her, please let me know and I will give her name and email address. Thanks in advance. Jane Nelson Lincoln, NE USA Now getting ready for the Nebraska State Fair - we have a booth there. Then we will travel to the Kansas State Fair to judge their honey division. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Help needed
Thanks so much to Beth, Alice and Tamara for great help on the angel. I'm getting out of my box with this pattern and hope that it will lead to doing more challenging patterns. I will let you know how it progresses and maybe even a picture when it is done. Thanks again for "being there". [lace] Help needed
Good morning all - There is a pattern for "Angel of Peace" by Brigitta Gornik in the Fall 2007 issue of the IOLI bulletin that I have been wanting to start ever since I first saw it. Now I'm getting serious and doing it. But, because I am "green" to projects that are worked in sections, I'm going to need a little help. So - first question beginning at number 1: "1 edge pair - metallic" Why just one pair? And how does it exactly work in? I understand the 10 pairs plus one worker to work the section in half stitch. But don't know what to do with the metallic pair. Any help would be appreciated. If I can get this section done, we'll see how the next part goes. Thanks so much in advance. [lace]RE: Pivot Pin
Thanks so much to Bev Walker and Tamara Duvall for your information on the pivot pin. I will print it all out and take it to my shop where I have my pillow set up. The sad part of all of this is that I had the first end done and was halfway up the side when I got the idea in my head that what I had done was maybe not right and maybe I'd better ask for help. So - I don't think I'm going to retro-lace at this point, but continue on and then try to do the other end using your suggestions. As I look through the book at the other patterns, wouldn't ya know that this one is the ONLY one that is done this way. On the other patterns, the end is done with alternating pins towards the center - one going all the way to the center and the next one going maybe 3/4 of the way. Leave it to me to pick the one and only that I'm not sure about how to do it correctly! But, it is a learning experience and I'm glad for that. I will keep this one as an example. Thanks again so much. And I'm anxious to reach the other end (maybe this afternoon) to see how this works. [lace] Pivot Pin
Good afternoon, lacemakers - I am needing some information about a pivot pin. The pattern I am working is from Lene Bjorn's book, "24 Hearts in Bobbin Lace" - 8A and 8B page 18/19. Do I understand correctly that both ends have about 14 times that the worker pair goes around the same pin - pivot pin? If that is so, there is a lot of thread that builds up on that pin. So, at what point do I pull the pin? And will all that thread flatten out? Torchon is what I work most of the time and in looking at the books I have, I don't seem to find much information about a pivot pin. Can anyone think of a book that maybe I should invest in that has a good explanation and/or picture of pivot pins? Would appreciate any information on this. Thanks so much in advance. Re: [lace] new free pattern
Thank you, Janice, for sharing. Everything on the website is wonderful! I especially like the teapot, the rocking horse and the Christmas tree with heart. I've been a little lax lately and your pictures have certainly inspired me to get going again. Thanks again. It appeared on the cover and last year there was a little article in the magazine about a guy in Australia who had made the teapot and added a cup for a friend. [lace] IOLI Bulletin
All of the talk of the new IOLI Bulletin got me to thinking that I hadn't received one in quite some time, so I started doing some checking. I wrote the check in September - a bit past the deadline but had e- mailed with someone, can't remember who and my computer went south in December so I can't go back and look - and the check has never been cashed. Makes me wonder where it went but now it seems clear to me that my subscription was never entered so I didn't receive the last issue and I'm sure I'm not going to receive the issue you all are talking about now. Can someone help me with this? I miss receiving the bulletins. Thanks in advance. [lace]Thread Guage
Thanks to all who responded about my plea for the thread guages. Tracy at the Lacemaker still carries them so I have ordered some and sent off my check to her at The Lacemaker in Cortland OH. For anyone who wants them, I don't think you would be making a mistake purchasing them. They are $4 plus shipping. I think they are an invaluable tool. I am so glad I found them. Hove a great day! [lace]thread gauge
Seeking help from good spiders. About ten years ago, I bought a thread gauge that was a transparency with various grids on it that you could lay over your pricking to see what type it was, ie. 5mm diagonal, 1/8" straight, etc. Then it had a one page guide of suggested thread for a particular grid such as 16/2 Swedish linen, or 5 DMC pearl cotton for example for the 5mm diagonal grid. On the page it says: © 1991 The Lacemaker USA. Can anyone tell me anything about the gauge and/or it's maker? As I have helped beginner lacers, I always have someone who would like to purchase this. Does anyone know if there is something like this available from one of the vendors out there? Thank you for any help.
