Hi all,
Yes Karisse, Carmen Roig is a Spanish lacemaker, and the hanky is worked in
Ret-Fi, our Catalonian Blonda.

[lace] RIP Marianne Stang

2020-10-09 Thread cadega2
A great loss. Marianne has been like a Fairy godmother for lacemakers,
preserving the tradition of lace and supporting new generations, from here my
gratitude to her and my condolences to her family Anneliese and Lothar always
by her side, participating and collaborating with Marianne at all times.

Re: [lace] Lacemaking in Colonial Spanish America

2020-02-16 Thread cadega2
The artifacts in the hands of the lady in the picture I think that they are
clearly bobbins. By the way very well represented.
What really surprises me is the lace displayed on the big pillow, as the Codex
is dated in 18th century. This is older than The picture that Bev has
contributed with and taken in last century.
The word “trenzilla” it means a type of ribbon that usually was made with the
hands as a plait, as a trimming which was used to cover the seams, and also to
decorate dressings, hats, objects, or any other piece made with thick tissues,
so the threads were also thick, golded or plated.
It Leads me to think that this word “trenzilla” and the verb “trenzillar”,
could be used in the next century to describe “a type of lace made with thick
threads” in the Spanish Colonies.
On another hand, it is known that in Spain were made narrow laces since 17th
century worked with few pairs of bobbins, done for the same purpose, that of
trimming and/or decorate the underskirt and linens but in this case the
material was white thread.
The picture in this case shows a big pillow, and the piece does not seem a set
of narrow braids worked at the same time all broad wise, but a wide piece of
lace.
Very interesting. I would like to hear the opinion of Maria Greil.
Regards.

[lace] Miniature pillow lace

2020-01-25 Thread cadega2
Helen I know a Spanish couple who work, miniature lace the wife, and miniature
wood work the husband. One of their pieces is the little lace pillows with
lace.
As far as I know, she makes the lace on a traditional lace pillow and then
moves it to the miniature work, hanging the little bobbins afterwards too.

Yes Janis, they are active. They were attending the Diada lace Day event in
Sant Cugat last Sunday. In Spain they are lace events every week so, they are
possibly very bussy...
I hope this helps to afford the wait...

Re: [lace] What constitutes Gros Point?

2017-03-01 Thread cadega2
I understand that it is which in Italian is called "punto piatto de Venice",
it could be translated as Flat Point of Venice.
Museo Arnold Caprai, has some illustrating examples and could be seen the
differences between Gros Point and Flat Point.

Re: [lace] Saxony Lace-Czech?

2017-02-16 Thread cadega2
Definitely this piece is not the style of Hinojosa lace.
As I privately commented to Devon, Hinojosa is a continuous tape lace without
grounds nor fillings between tapes.
The Saxony piece is a part tape lace worked with clothstitch. There are drawn
some spaces between tapes that are filled with "vermicellos". The vermicello is
a little tape which is worked making little rings that seem holes, coming back
on itself again and again until the space is filled. It is also called
"occhiolino tipo serpentino" . There are in Italia pieces completely made with
this stitch, especially in the North.
On the book "Merletto a Fuselli" -Note de storia e materiali d'archivio- tells
about the cultural relation between the Lace School of Gorizia with others
Schools in Viena, Eslovenia, Praga and Germany before the First World 's War.
So it is not a nonsense thinking in the possiblity of a piece with some common
features
