RE: [lace] Christian Patterns (Copyright)
Hi All, I have worked one Altar Frontal from Marie-Clare Downham's "Lace for Church Use", one of Eeva-Liisa's pictures (another on the pillow which is big enough) and several which have come to me from other sources, mostly filet crochet. Always willing to add to my collection - includes other disciplines, eg, a Christening gown in hardanger, so would be interested in ANYTHING related. Have a very basic knowledge of French, but do have a good dictionary from the last time I tried updating my knowledge. Am working on a Stole for my Parish Priest who will be 40 years a Priest next month. Will be accessing my good supply of machine embroidered designs for that project. It will be on white and I have been asked to reflect his Irish Origins as well as the fact that most of his priestly service has been in Australia, Wollongong Diocese (just South of Sydney) in New South Wales. Was on a Church Sew list for a while, unfortunately is seemed to "go away". Mary Carey Campbelltown, NSW, Australia _ Be part of history. I see, thank you Brenda. At least one of the books is from the late 19th century and I'll have to see about the others. First, of course, I have to find them. Sister Claire It's not whether a book is out of print; it's whether or not it is out of copyright that matters. In UK copyright lasts until 70 years after the death of the author, so if a book or pattern is published by a young author copyright could remain with the author/designer for 150 years or more. I think all the EC countries have similar copyright laws. What is the law about sharing patterns from books that are out of print? Re: [lace] Christian Patterns
There is an old book on the professors website titled "Church Lace" it has diagrams for working different edging patterns. I have included the link to the website. http://www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/lace.html#monographs Helene Ulrich Surfside Beach, SC. I would have to check, but I believe I have some very old lace patterns with Christian and liturgical themes (edgings and insertions for altar cloths, vestments, etc.). If the books are still in my collection, they are in French. I'd be glad to share patterns if it is legal and if the French isn't a problem.
