[lace] Kimono silk
I have seen this silk, itâs gorgeous ..and the colours, wow. Itâs very fine (capital V). I didnât buy any though, here it costs an arm and a leg even if it was from a local supplier. I donât know how it works up but it sure is beautiful. Sharon, on Vancouver Island - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. A few details: the ground fabric is silk crepe & quite substantial & OMG!!! some of it has a metallic weft, the effect of which is ethereal. Over 60,000 visitors saw the exhibit in San Diego last year. Before you enter the exhibit there is a short video about Kubota with him speaking at a symposium. Also footage of a previous exhibit at The Smithsonian. There are two pieces of "touchable" decorated silk shown with his brushes & other tools. The stitching is quite simple: mostly running stitch, some couching & something curly perhaps knots or couched boucle. I told a friend in NY that the show is so beautiful it might make her cry. It is truly one of those green guide "worth the detour" occasions. I'm going again in April & can hardly wait! Re: [lace] Kimono
Hi all i'm glad you didn't resist the urge to give the link to this marvel !... i love kimonos and they're the most extraordinary pieces of textile , in my opinion. My most recent treasure is a book published by PIE BOOKS in 2006 : Summer kimonos and the colour of Japan . the kimono collection of Katsumi Yumioka ISBN 4 89 531 X C0072 ...it is mostly in japanese but the explanations about the kimonos are translated into English and i was fascinated by the degree of art required from the weavers ... dom from Paris who overslept this morning :-( :-( my boss is used to it but still robinl...@socal.rr.com a écrit : hottl...@neo.rr.com wrote: Hello! I have visited the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum at Lake Kawaguchi near Mt. Fuji. His landscape kimonos are unbelievable to behold and they are only part of this mans amazing artistry. As well the museum building and gardens are breathtaking. If you have the opportunity to see this exhibition- DON'T PASS IT UP. Susan in dreary Erie, PA I saw a similar exhibit of these kimonos in 1995 at the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa and it's worth going way, way out of your way to see.
