[lace] Oops. Corrections to previous post on grounds

2018-05-10 Thread Devon Thein
I meant "cross, twist, twist, twist" for point ground.
Also, I meant late 20th and early 21st century, instead of late 19th
and early 20th century for the rise of grounds that require starching.
I plead a sense of disorientation from using a new mail program. I
hope these are transmitting ok.

Long Live Lace

As old age encroaches things start going wrong
That medical treatment can't help.
There are twitches and spams, and all sorts of aches
And just to bend down brings a yelp.

But if one has an addiction to something as nice
As lacemaking and all of its treasure
There's no time for self pity or to fret about pain
There's too much to do that is pleasure.

As well as just having lace projects galore
There's books with ideas to astound
And talking with friends at a meeting, or now
On internet groups that abound.

So nurture your lace, invest in your books
Until your bank balance is zero.
They'll help to make years a pleasure to bear
And send troubles quick smart out the window.

Hi Robin

Sorry about your pillow Robin. When I was making my large piece 'Ye Greek
Gods!' I went into my front room to find my stand overturned and my pillow
upside down on the floor. I have no pets and my husband said 'Not Guilty'.
It may have been the weight of all those bobbins. Fortunately I had strapped
down most of the bobbins and only a few threads were broken. I also use the
'turning the pillow upside down' teick. You need a lot of courage - but it
works.

Happy lacemaking

You were right the first time! I meant the class that I used to teach
(up to a few weeks ago). I designed the overall project, but each class
member (except one, who adapted a Maltese pattern) designed her own
wheels and clothes. I did one of the bikes/bikers, and the
tamboured/hand-printed fabric top.

Re: [lace] Oops my apology Francis

2009-08-10 Thread Avital
Don't be too hard on yourself, Sherry. The male name Francis isn't all
that common in the US so it's an easy mistake to make, especially on a
list that is predominantly female. It took me a while to learn:

FrancIs (like St. Francis of Assis) = generally male
FrancEs = generally female

There may be exceptions, but most Franci/es seem to follow this general pattern.

I never joined a raffle before. But I like the idea.

But - I also have a subscription to Kantbrief ;)

It's the first copy of 2001

Or, did you want to exchange your Kantbrief for someone's extra copy of
Lace ?

Just wondering ;)

Indeed, but that would be reducing the chances for others of a raffle at
all.

It is I who is sorry( who am sorry? Phooey) I know that there are
many gentlemen lacers and tatters. In fact we have a couple in our little
group. My own lawyer tats!!!.
But in explanation of my neglect I started that message to go to two
groups. I made a couple of corrections for individualty...but that one
slipped right under my nose!

Giggle~giggle...I started with no intention of using bobbins, but there they
were...in that spot under my nose and grabbed on. I will try the meat
skewers. I would also like to try tapestry 'bobbins'..pointed and
heavier. TIme will tell.

There is something special about using the lace things for this...just plain
fun.

[lace] Oops - language misunderstandings

2004-10-13 Thread Wotter03
Sorry about the misunderstanding. I am writing this from the UK where we use
tat as a derogatory term for anything that isn't up to standard - rubbish
(again I believe this is an English term equivalent to the term garbage). If you
can imagine someone holding up a piece of torn and scruffy material by two
fingers on an outstretched arm and saying ''Who does this bit of tat belong
to?'' then that is the sort meaning I intended to convey.
I have done a fair bit of tatting in my time. I used to take my tatting to
the hospital when I was having radiotherapy for breast cancer and I had to
spend hours waiting around because the machine was *tatty* and kept breaking down.
Sorry for the confusion
