RE: [lace] RE: lace activities
Delurking with my short list... I've been demonstrating when I can with Portland Lace Society at county fairs, state fairs and other gatherings, so I've been more productive than usual. (a 7:30 am to whenever job puts a serious crimp in my lace time.) I have decided that the next year or so is clear the decks time - no new projects (if I can help it) until the UFO pile is diminished. I'm another one of those crazy people with multiple hobbies, so this isn't just about lace. :-) The first of the finish it projects is the floral Bucks class piece from 2005 IOLI in Denver. I finished the butterfly, but the larger piece is still in progress. I'm picking up speed with it though, after working on it during all of our demonstrations, so I want to keep going until it's done. After that is the Cluny/guipure shoe from our class with Lia, shortly after Denver. I'm 2/3 done, so it'll feel good to get that one off my plate too. Other than those two, I've got a couple of lace knitting projects to finish, a needlelace rose from the Pacific NW Conference last June to finish, and a small bit of Youghal lace to finish from a couple of years back. (Yes, I know, but it's a tricky filling and I needed a refresher from Nancy Evans before I could continue.) If I'm making good progress with these, I've got a couple of cross stitch and crewel projects that are by far my oldest UFOs. But first, I've got a pirate costume to sew for in time for a Halloween party (I've no idea what DH is going to be - he's on his own!), Portland's annual Lace Day on Saturday, and two more knitting classes the next weekend. grin Back to lurking and stitching, LeAnn in Oregon - where we're due to get sunny warm weather again in a day or two. :-) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The KVM is a children's museum, and the organizers want to have a full range of crafts. We demo'd there last year, and we enjoyed it as much as the kids. We will have tatting, knitted lace, and I plan to bring my bobbin lace pillow again. I am still working the lace on my temporary bolster pillow, I like the bolster very much. Someone from the list suggested I pin a small bag of pebbles to the back to stop it from rolling toward me. It worked like a charm, and I keep working on the edging occasionally. I am trying to teach myself Milanese Lace, and have started a 'sampler'. I am getting used to finer threads and tensioning without all the pins I used in Torchon lace. My sampler is not perfect, the edges wobble and I have a few twisted threads, but I think I can see progress, and that is what I'm aiming for. I update my lace blog whenever I turn a corner, not as often as I'd like because I've started knitting socks and wristers for birthdays and Christmas gifting. [lace] RE: lace activities
I still have my unfinished table ribbon on the go (beds lace), a large star (beds lace) designed by a fellow Ozzie lacemaker, and my next year's IOLI contest entry (also beds, but quite psychedelic) on the go. Next weekend is Cider Days at Lakewood Heritage Centre, and I'm demo'ing there. It'll be my first one in several years, so I'm quite looking forward to making lace for several hours without my family disrupting my lace time :-) I have also shown our Art and Health/Wellness teachers how to make 'plaits' (legs) as another option for the friendship bracelets they're doing at school with the kids (elementary). [lace] Re: lace activities
I have been cleaning house, doing laundry and making sure that DH had a hot meal most evevnings -- all because *anything* was better than starting a new and untested project :) But, about a week ago, I decided to bite the bulle and had at it. Once I hung (hanged?) in all the necessary pairs and made it past the (wobbly) start, the pattern is moving along and looks almost as good as I thought it would. I'm pleased with the colour choice, even if it's a tad odd-ball. So, with 4(out of 10) repeats done, I rewarded myself with a trip to the NCRLG's Fall Lace Day at Sweet Briar, where I spent more money than I consider decent on things I *wanted* (rather than *needed*). Very bad of me but, as I unpacked the goodies this afternoon, I wasn't repentant about a single one of them. Other than that... Earlier in the month I spent some time proofing Cathleen Belleville's new Rosa Libre pattern (Spiral Rose). She'll be teaching the project in Ithaca next weekend and wanted to make sure that her instructions could be understood. She cofirmed the receipt of the notes and two samples -- one as per instructions and one where I disagreed with her and changed bits and pieces. She said she'd tamarize some of the stuff -- the bits where she felt I was right -- but, most of all, was happy to get my two poor orphans. She said she'd mislaid her own and, since she was about to leave the country for a couple of weeks (for work), she'd be unable to reproduce them, so mine came in handy. And next weekend I'll be in Ithaca, taking a class from her. I had sent in my application the same day she sent me her instructios for proofing and, contrry to her advice, refused to try and change to another class. I'll try to see what (if anything g) I can do wih the Spiral Rose in wire (Saturday and Sunday) and, on Monday, I'll follow the course with the rest of the class in thread -- a Halloween bat which, Cathy assured us (potential students), is *not at all* of the blood-sucking variety :) I'm told two colours would be best (plus beads for eyes). The photo of Fleddie (my name for him; she calls him Fledermaus) shows light grey wings with black body and wing struts (and yellow eyes). Entirely too gentle :) I'm thinking black for body and red (or orange, if I'm in a Halloween rather than vampire mood) for body and struts. But I'm not certain... Any suggestions? Nothing else going on lace-wise. Given the current political situation in my adopted country, it's a wonder I'm able to do anything at all, since I've been spending a lot of time in the toilet, vomiting all my worry and apprehension and disappointment. Not being able to sleep much isn't helping any, either... -- Tamara P Duvallhttp://t-n-lace.net/ Lexington, Virginia, USA (Formerly of Warsaw, Poland) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
