Re: [lace] Thai silk
I did do a wrap test of the Thai silk and it came out between 36 and 37 wraps so probably equivalent to YLI 50, although to my eye when laid next to some YLI 50 it looks a little finer. Anyway, I have decided to try a piece from Yvonne Scheele-Kerkhof's beautiful Floral Bedfordshire book, and hope I don't upset the purists by making Beds in colored silk. Is it always made in cotton? I made the hanky corner from Yvonne's book in Bart Francis' bamboo/silk :)) On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 10:12 AM, Janice Blair jbl...@sbcglobal.net wrote: Anyway, I have decided to try a piece from Yvonne Scheele-Kerkhof's beautiful Floral Bedfordshire book, and hope I don't upset the purists by making Beds in colored silk. [lace] Thai silk
An English friend just got back from a vacation in Thailand and she sent me two spools of silk from the Hua Hin Silk Village. It seems to be very fine, glossy, spun silk but has no size or markings on the cone shaped spools which are about 3 inches tall. Has anyone come across this silk before and have any idea of the size? My friend writes I picked up a packet of 12 spools thinking that made a lovely gift. The shop assistant said, Excuse me Madam but you are aware that the price stated is for one spool!!? I treasure your friendship but my pocket doesn't meet my desires. Hope you can use them. It was interesting viewing their little museum - live silkworm to finished product Now I am looking for a pattern that I can make and send to her as a thank you. Isn't it nice that some friends appreciate our art. Re: [lace] Thai silk
Trillium Lace lists a Thai silk, pure filament, 120 weight but I don't think this will help you much. How does your silk compare to another thread - e.g. a fine cotton you might have?so you could make a comparison based on a known measurement (supposing you have Brenda's thread book?).
