Hi All, Came across the following listing on ebay today - anyone know
what sort of lace they were used to make.

Best wishes Andrea in Cambridge, UK, where the sun is still shining.

I think the long thin things are stilettos, they are used to make little
round holes in the fabric for embroidery, but I don't know what are the
round things.

What about tooth picks? :) :)

Sure it is a bit of a joke, but I seem to remember that bone toothpicks were
placed on the table in India, perhaps even China?

Who knows?

I'd seen something like these before on an antiques programme, and have been
trying to remember what they'd been identified as. Brian, you hit it on the
head! They were identified as tooth picks.

But then two experts did identify a bobbin winder as a fancy spinning
wheel :-)

The long thin things look rather like fancy cocktail sticks - belied by
the fancy images around the photo, and with damaged ends to boot!
Many years ago I needed a couple of extra pairs to get around a corner,
and wanted them *now* couldn't wait for mail order so I used some
little plastic cocktail forks (2 prongs) with handles very similar to
these. I used a hot knife to 'weld' the ends of the prongs together so
that I could add a spangle and hey presto improvised bobbins!

As for the two round items, I suppose you could lay one on top of a BL
pillow, stick pins in the holes and use it to make Tenneriffe/Sol lace
