Re: [lace] The Royal Lacemaker
Thanks to all who replied. Checked the library again with that information but they don't have it, or any books by her (don't know if she has written anything else). I'll check charity shops when I'm in England next year (if I have time - Jacquie can you start checking now?). I've been reading some books by Steve Robinson (genealogical mystery) but they aren't available here either. Got 2 with some Amazon gifts, so I think when I've read them I'll donate them to the library if I can get an assurance that they will be catalogued and shelved and not sold to raise money for other things. Re: [lace] The Royal Lacemaker
I found it on Amazon for a reasonable price for a paperback. It's not great literature but I did enjoy the story and the description of life then. The author knows how to make bobbin lace and the description of making lace seemed right to me though I would have liked to read more about it. A fun read. Ruth Lyon In sunny Dubuque, Iowa. I read it, then gave it away. Too much Mills & Boon for me. Agnes Boddington - Elloughton UK I managed to get a copy of The Royal Lacemaker from my local library. At first I found it a bit tedious with all the "evil squire has his wicked way" bits but I persevered and once our heroine had developed a bit of backbone I enjoyed the book. Dear Diana and others who are interested, I asked my local book supplier about this British book. As of today, this is what she reported back: '"The Royal Lacemaker is an overseas book not available here. As soon as it's out, we could do an overseas order, but it will be close to thirty US dollars for a paperback." I (Jeri) will wait for comments from others before diverting lace book money to buy a work of fiction. So, somebody who is lurking - here is your chance to tell us about this book and whether it accurately portrays lace making and the known history of lace in the lace villages of Devon!
