Re: [lace-chat] Help please
Tamara.I was going to send you a message anyway about postage. The Royal Mail is proposing changing its way of charging for post, moving from charging by weight only to charging by size *and* weight. This has horrified mail order firms with at least one, a film developing service, reckoning it will go out of business as thits strenght is cheap processing witn minimum postal costs. I imagine this will also affect magazine subscriptions. Tamara I'm sending this to you and cc'd to chat. Hope you get them both. We should be getting broadband here at the end of the mont, and much as want it I'm not looking forward to the changeover! Hah! Came back home to 6 messages -- 3 in the private box (one telling me that I now have the new added service. Service!) and 3 on lace. Nothing at all on chat. Yet Alice tells me (one of the 3 message in the private box) there's been a flood of messages on lace... So, I think, OK, Positini is holding them all, thinking they're either spam or virus or something. I go to Postini -- your box is empty it says... Actually I only remember about 2 people being in line and it was just business as usual. When I got to the front of the line, I didn't know to expect anything other than a $10 bill for my $10 withdrawal, so I guess we did have ordinary queueing, but no special rules. Don't know if the ISPs are being extra cautious because of this latest virus. A few weeks ago Freeserve (now Wanadoo) was slow due to extra vigilant filtering in their system. The current Sasser virus isn't spread by email, but through the internet. Here, the Maritime and Coastguard agency computer system is down due to this virus and they're having to take emergency calls with pen and paper rather than rely on their electronic mapping and charting system. They say they're still operational, but, as someone who doesn't like the sea at the best of times, I wouldn't like to go out into the English channel which is like a motorway (freeway) in the rush hour with boats and ships of all sizes passing through, but also with others, particularly small craft and car ferries betweeen England and the continent crossing them. And, when I was there earlier today, the young lady who added the Postini to my account confirmed that in a way, when she said the puter was sluggish today. But... If my ISP is having problems, how come *my* messages go through OK? Actually, for those who know anything about email systems, not at all curious and entirely to be expected. From an ISP's point of view, outbound and inbound email have little in common. They have different storage requirements, often use different technologies and many users connect to outbound mail less often and for a shorter time. So it makes good sense to keep the two systems separate, on different machines. This has the added advantage that for users a problem will usually only impact either inbound or outbound mail. Since it was backless and sleeveless, it would not display on a hanger and he had no person to model it, so he modeled it himself -- with his face blanked out. [lace-chat] St. George's Day
I always wondered why it was not celebrated when I lived in England apart from the odd person wearing a rose in their lapel. My children started their education in Wales where my daughter had to wear Welsh costume, my son could wear any costume and often went as a cowboy, at school on St. Davids day. He wore a leek as a boutonniere. They also only went for school in the morning, wonder if that is still the practice. Living over here I tend to forget about St. George's day but you can bet if I had the appropriate flag I would fly it. I often fly the union jack when my British club is meeting at my home. But *only one* (so far; backlog is still coming in) responded with a joke which I could share on resurrection... Some friends are more equal than others, just as Orwell said :) From: M.A. I was due later in the week for an appointment with the gynaecologist. Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor's office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30am. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school and it was already around 8:45 am. The trip to his office took about 35 minutes, so I didn't have any time to spare. As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full effort. So I rushed upstairs, threw off my pyjamas, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make sure I was at least presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment. I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in. Knowing the procedure, as I'm sure you do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in Paris or some other place a million miles away. I was a little surprised when the doctor said, My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven't we? I didn't respond. After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal ... some shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. After school, when my six year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, Mommy, where's my washcloth? I told her to get another one from the cupboard. She replied, No, I need the one that was here by the sink. It had all my glitter and sparkles in it. - Tamara P Duvall Lexington, Virginia, USA Formerly of Warsaw, Poland http://lorien.emufarm.org/~tpd/ To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
