[lace-chat] Giving away Lacemaker Shirts
Dear Fellow Lacemakers - In the past year and a half, I have lost 115 pounds and have given away much of my wardrobe while enjoying purchasing new things. Now I buy clothes instead of food. :) I have four shirts of interest to lacemakers that I am willing to send to anyone who wants them, limit one per "customer". Re: [lace-chat] Baldock Street Fair lacemaking demo
Dear Lynne - Thanks for sharing the great pictures of your group. I love seeing lacemakers having a good time! Some of those children are most definitely future prospects. May your threads never tangle, Cindy Cindy Hutton Norfolk, Virginia USA If you'd like to see what our display and lacemakers are like see my webshots album on the following link. It may be a day or longer before they put them on the server but please have a look - and yes, I know they didn't wear lace then but I couldn't resist wearing the Beds collar I'd just bought on ebay!!! I did tell people it wasn't my own work though! http://community.webshots.com/user/lazydaisy25?vhost=community To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace-chat] Warning on poisons
Dear Spiders - We are in the midst of a scare at our home and I thought I would share it in the hopes it not happen to another pet-owning family. My 8 year old Boston Terrier is very sick from poisoning by Hydrangeas, a cyanide containing plant. Two days ago, the cleaning lady decided that the silver pitcher of dried Hydrangea flowers in my dining room needed to be polished and in removing the flowers, scattered a fair amount of dried petals. Before she could sweep them up, my extremely oral doggie lapped up a few of them. Luckily, he did not ingest any flower bud or leaves as we would have lost him. However, he is still very ill with extreme nausea. He is listless and I have to stand over him to make him drink anything. We have hopes that he will pull through but it is not yet certain. He was on a saline drip and medication at the vets but she let me bring him home so that he could be in familiar surroundings. Please, add Hydrangeas to your list of dangerous indoor flowers. I shudder to think of what might have happened to a human toddler! [lace-chat] Searching for shell source
Dear Spiders - In addition to lacemaking, I also make "Sailor's Valentines". For those of you not familiar, they are shell mosaics, normally done in octagonal wooden glass-front boxes (see http://www.sailorsvalentines.com/blanda.htm for examples). The originals were produced in Barbados in the mid-1800's as love tokens and souvenirs for sailors. Now...to the point of this email! I am searching for a certain shell, Spirula spirula, sometimes called a ram's horn shell, which is from a tropical, deep-water squid. It is delicate, washes up on beaches but is just not something we find in Virginia. If any of you know of a reliable source, have access to an excellent shell shop or any coastal dwellers downunder have some, please contact me! Thanks! [lace-chat] Warning - Lace supplier site hacked
Dear Spiders - I just got a call from The Lacemaker (Courtland, Ohio) and was told that their site had been hacked (actually their host) and that financial information had been stolen. Evidently, several customers had activity on their credit card accounts and to be safe, they were calling everyone who had ordered through the web site. I immediately called my bank and thankfully, there was no illegal activity on my account but because I had used a debit VISA, the thieves would have had access to my main checking account. My banker canceled my card number and has reissued it with a new number. I was lucky because the only thing I have to do is put up with the minor hassle of waiting for a new card but I thought I should spread the word as fast as possible to all lacemakers who might have ordered from them on line. I don't want to besmirch the reputation of the Lacemaker because, in truth, it could happen to any site that sells on line. I will, however, only shop from now on at sites that use a nationally recognized "Safe Sales" check-out. Be warned and check your accounts, especially those of you headed to Canada! [lace-chat] Silly, silly joke
Morning, Spiders! I don't usually indulge in jokes here *but* this was such a groaner I had to pass it along. May your threads never tangle, Cindy Cindy Hutton Norfolk, Virginia USA Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were having dinner at an expensive New York restaurant. It was the place to be seen and both had dressed for the occasion. Ginger was resplendent in a ball gown and diamond tiara while Fred wore his smartest morning suit. But the evening was marred when the waiter bringing their deserts tripped and covered Fred from head to toe in treacle sponge. "I'm terribly sorry", said the waiter. "You should be" replied Fred, "Thanks to you I've got pudding on my top hat, pudding on my white tie, pudding on my tails." Re: [lace-chat] mystery tool
U, right off hand I am tempted to call it an afficot (used to burnish threads in a finished piece of needlelace). The hook at the end is a bit of a puzzler but perhaps that is an artifact of a prior break in the bone. On the other hand, you could make a case for it being a primitive shoe horn. In case a "shoe horn" goes by a different name in other countries, it is just a devise you put in the back of a tight fitting shoe, between your heel and the shoe, which acts to let your foot slip in more easily. Other opinions are more than welcome! May your threads never tangle, Cindy Cindy Hutton Norfolk, Virginia USAwhere I am finding the taste of nearly raw "soft-boiled" eggs served by my 12 year old for a surprise Mother's Day breakfast is finally fadingSalmonella anyone? :) Since things are quiet, does anyone have any idea what this item is? http://cgi.ebay.com/Bone-Button-Hook-Or-Lace-Tool_W0QQitemZ7386996504 Happy Mother's Day -- in the USA. [lace-chat] One more interesting name
Dear Spiders - While reading the newspaper this morning, I cam across a story of a local farmer just getting ready to open his massive strawberry fields to the public for "pick-your-own" delights. Now, spring is strawberry time in Tidewater Virginia, so this is not particularly unusual. However, the name of this 6th generation farmer caught my eye. Mr. Berryman. Re: [lace-chat] What's the term?
I can think of two more candidates for the "nominative determinism" list: Dr. Bird is a retired professor of ornithology at The College of William & Mary and Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker a few years ago (along with a lot of cash!).
