Re: [lace-chat] Camilla's Hats
Hi everyone and Linda who asked regarding the feathered 'hats' >> What did other viewers think? > Yes, what did other viewers think ? I do not have tv, and even if so, would not have watched this wedding - but the photo of the principals was on my home page news, and an enticing link to a feature on the feathers, with one photo - I thought the new Mrs. Charles looked really elegant (I confess I wondered what system of corsets she might have used - *I* would like to look as good). I for one was impressed she'd got good advice about her hair. I thought the swirl of feathers she wore as headgear was stylish and flattering - however, hearing that the ends were weighted with crystals made me think quite possibly they'd bob around as she moved, which I'd find irritating to watch. I then went to another link where some of the extreme feathered attire of the guests was described, but the only photo was of Zara, who chose to wear a dark fedora. I thought *she* looked stylish and elegant, just the same - a youthful protest against the frippery, no doubt - go youth. As I can't think of anything else that might be considered 'nice' about C & C, I won't say anything more... :p bye for now Bev in Sooke, BC (on Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) Cdn. floral bobbins www.woodhavenbobbins.com To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[lace-chat] Camilla's hats
Intrigued by the reference to lace on Camilla's hat, I've been doing a search around and come up with this: It's on the cbs news site. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/04/09/earlyshow/living/beauty/main686961.shtml then select "interactive - Charles and Camilla from the right hand column" then ""What they Wore" then Photo No. 4 - I think you might be surprised with the extent of lace on the hat! I wondered what that strange feather concoction was on her head was and did a quick google for 'Charles and Camilla wedding', and only one site came up - the Houston Times - which had about 150 photos. I looked at three, and none of them showed anything clearly. There doesn't seem to have been that much interest in the event here. Only one of the 12 in my lace class watched it. Asda (Walmart) was selling a silver and cubic zirconium replica of the engagement ring for GBP19, and now there are several on ebay (being shipped direct from the USA, so they might not be the ASDA ones) for a buy-it-now price of anything from GBP25 to 89. They've been there since Friday, and there doesn't appear to have been any buyers. Our local radio station also said yesterday that someone is offering copies of the marriage certificate for GBP3.50. The presenter made an alternative offer - send him 3.50 and he *won't* send you a copy of the certificate :-) But then he also said that the start of the Grand National (a big horse race) was delayed because of the wedding to give Camilla time to get to the start to take part :-D Jean in Poole To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Soon - I hope - the official wedding photographs will come out, and then I hope to get a closer view, and one in better focus than you get in a newspaper or on the television screen. The first hat definitely had some sort of stiff framework, and a covering of lace, but I haven't been able to see the kind of lace yet, only that it seemed to be floral. The second hat has been described as an 'alternative tiara', being gold with Zwarovski crystals. Again, I'd love to get a close up of that one - it looked so attractive. Also, I liked the way her outfit for the Service of Prayer and Dedication seemed to compliment Saint George's Chapel, being a similar light grey to the stone, with accents of gold, and having the same sort of line as a fifteenth-century houppeland. > > What did other viewers think? [lace-chat] Camilla's Hats
Now I know why the list was quiet over the weekend - the UK Lace Guild's convention was on. I hope someone will report on the high-lights of the weekend. I suppose I can read about when my magazine arrives. My I.O.L.I. Bulletin has yet to arrive though. Anyway, the weather here in Tartu was dreary both days. DH surprised me by watching the live telecast of the Royal Wedding all the way through. I finished knitting a scarf at the same time. Camilla's first hat was described as being a straw hat covered with French lace & it was quite elegant. Then when she appeared at the chapel with what I would've called "grass" instead of feathers I was a little disappointed. I would have chosen something more befitting of a Duchess. What did other viewers think? I just hope that we see some sunshine this week. The snow has all gone, & the crocuses & snow-bells are blooming.
