Re: [lace-chat] Soduku
This is the site I used when learning how to solve the puzzles: http://www.sudokuoftheday.com/pages/techniques-overview.php It covers a lot of different techniques that you can use before you have to rely on guessing. Re: [lace-chat] Soduku
Janice, My husband is also addicted to Sudoku (or Sod You - OK) as I am tending to call it . However, if you go into the site www.sudoku.org.uk Michael Meopham has a piece on tips and hints of how to solve the puzzle, along with various immutable facts to help you on your way - and it would appear that guessing is not necessary!Apparently, according to Dearly Beloved, they work, though sometimes I can't really understand why.But I prefer the Crosswords in the Daily Telegraph, so maybe I'm not the best person to give an opinion. However - do try the site, and print off the hints and tips - certainly John has found it quite useful! Carol - in Suffolk UK Subject: [lace-chat] Soduku . Is there another way of looking at the puzzle to fill the blanks or do I just have to guess? If I do get frustrated and decide to guess, you can bet your life that I find that I have the same number already in that line. At that point I give up and decide to get on with my day. Any suggestions on how to approach the difficult puzzles will be gratefully accepted and tried. > Janice > > > Janice Blair > Crystal Lake, 50 miles northwest of Chicago, Illinois, USA > http://www.lacemakersofillinois.org/ > > To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: > unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to > [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [lace-chat] Soduku
I do try to use a pencil and write all the combination of numbers in the corners, sometimes I live dangerously and use a pen if it is to hand. Too lazy to hunt up the pencil. My supermarket carried some books but I dedcided not to buy one as it takes me too long to do the newspaper one sometimes. Today I got annoyed when I found that the number 2 could not go where I needed it!! I had used it already in that line. Aghh!! Can't say I have seen Karoake yet. Do you have to sing along with it. ;-) (Dont know how to draw a tongue in cheek) Janice David Collyer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > If I do get frustrated and decide to guess, you can bet your life that I > find that I have the same number already in that line. However, you really need to use a pencil with a rubber on the end and write ALL possibilities in each square. Then rub them out as you eliminate them. BTW - you can buy little booklets of these things at the newsagent. And there's now an even MORE addictive puzzle out called something like Karoake. Re: [lace-chat] Soduku
You need an analytical mind for soduku. I don't know you aren't doing this, but if I understand the game correctly, each number can only be used once in a row or column, or something, so you have to make a list at the end of each row and column of the possible numbers that can go in that row. If it is like other kinds of logic problems, if you look over the puzzle you should see one or two places where you can relatively easily deduce what number goes somewhere, and that narrows down your options elsewhere. My daily paper has been running a series next to the crossword and I have become addicted to solving it before I start my day. My breakfast time is growing longer and longer as the puzzles progress in difficulty. The easy ones were a breeze to solve but now they are more difficult to do. After filling in the obvious spaces with the correct numbers from one to nine, I find that I have many spaces where multiple numbers can be used. Is there another way of looking at the puzzle to fill the blanks or do I just have to guess? Re: [lace-chat] Soduku
Some puzzles are better constructed than others and have a unique solution (eg The Times ones). If the ones in your paper fall into this category, then you can solve them by logic and elimination. Listing the choices for each box helps, and then you can see where there is a square that only one number will work for I got really hooked on Sudoku over the summer, and did lots of the puzzles until I finally ran out of enthusiasm for them Have fun Sue To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
