[leaf-user] LVS on top of Leaf?
A quick search of the archives has brought up one or two references to people playing with Linux Virtual Server on top of LEAF/LRP but no definitive evidence of success. Anyone out there built a working LEAF based LVS redirector? Any chance of sharing knowledge/code? If not I guess I'll have to break out that compiler again thx/andy ___ Have big pipes? RE: [Leaf-user] Compact Flash
I'll leave the experts to comment on the software how-tos. Suffice to say if you follow the instructions for setting up an IDE drive it is essentially the same. I would like to recommend an excellent source of supply for CF to IDE cards. See http://www.pcengines.com/cflash.htm The cards are cheap, reliable and usually shipped the next day. I have ordered several and have always had good service. (I am not connected with the company.) rgds/andy -Original Message- From: [mailto:]On Behalf Of brooksp5 Sent: 23 April 2002 13:26 To: Subject: [Leaf-user] Compact Flash Hello, I have been using both Dachstein and Bering for the last few months, I now want to start working with compact flash cards, can anyone point me in the right direction to start off. I am just looking for some general links to recomended cards and where to look for How-To's etc. I will probably be back looking for lots more information once I get started :} Thanks Paul ___ Leaf-user mailing list https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user ___ Leaf-user mailing list https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user
RE: [Leaf-user] serial console access
I would support Eric's request but understand the cost. But how about providing an alternate kernel for those of us who want it. I know it is more effort for you Jacques but there does seem to be a community of interest out here who would appreciate it. rgds/andy -Original Message- From: [mailto:]On Behalf Of Jacques Nilo Sent: 15 April 2002 21:47 To: Eric B Kiser Cc: Subject: Re: [Leaf-user] serial console access Eric B Kiser wrote: [Jacques-Snip] Bering v1.0-rc1 does not have serial compiled in the kernel. This seems necessary to have serial console access. I am considering to have serial compiled in v1.0-rc2 for that reason. Any comment from the list on that issue? [/snip] Based on the above statement Mr. Nilo is awaiting feedback from us to determine whether the serial module will be compiled in. I would like to ask that everyone who wants it to please be sure and hit the list with that request so that the Bering team is aware of our interest. Here is mine... Bering Team, please compile the serial module into the kernel for the rc2 release. It would be greatly appreciated. Eric: I am afraid I am going to disappoint you. I have been thinking about this issue and the only usage I see for serial built into the kernel is the ability to see the kernel logging messages on your serial terminal. Everything else can be done by putting the serial.o in /boot/lib/modules Once logged in the kernel logging messages can then be seen with dmesg Also you won't generally start directly with a console-only monitoring. You will generally setup your floppy to configure it on a normal machine and at the very end switch to console monitoring facility. Finally the cost of serial on the kernel is 10K. Quite significant from a floppy point of vue. RE: [Leaf-user] OSPF on LEAF?
Thanks George. I was beginning to feel unloved. ;-) I have been able to find some references to brave souls who have combined LEAF and Zebra through the Zebra mail list so I am following up there. Will let this list know if I learn anything useful. rgds/andy -Original Message- From: George Metz [mailto:] Sent: 12 March 2002 21:31 To: Andy McLeod Cc: Subject: Re: [Leaf-user] OSPF on LEAF? Well, since it's been sitting for 3 days without a reply, I'll take a quick stab at it. Frankly, OSPF scares me on Ciscos, and they're at least sorta designed for it. =) I don't know too much about OSPF in general, but if you do, then from what I've been told the Zebra implementation is pretty easy for OSPF. I personally would rather use default route/weighted route methods rather than OSPF unless there's a pressing need to do so - such as the two routers mentioned happen to be in totally different locations topography-wise. Even then, it could be sticky. RE: [Leaf-user] newbie question (Bering/2.4/IDE)
First familiarise yourself with the general methods for running from hard disk via the excellent HOWTO on the LEAF site. Bering's kernel has module support for IDE built in (always a good idea to check the kernel config file which most developers provide with the dist so you can check what is in and out of the kernel). This means that you need to load the ide modules at boot time. The ide modules are available from leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/ and are called ide-mod.o, ide-disk.o and ide-probe.mod.o. The procedure for adding modules to /boot/lib/modules is described in the docs on Jacques' LEAF site. Finally make sure you follow the HOWTO on the necessary changes to syslinux and it works. How do I know? Because I happen to have done it on Monday. Good luck rgds/andy -Original Message- From: [mailto:]On Behalf Of Adrian Stovall Sent: 26 February 2002 20:48 To: LEAF (E-mail) Subject: [Leaf-user] newbie question (Bering/2.4/IDE) Hi all...I had successfully finished a previous install with a 2.2.19-IDE kernel and run from a small IDE HD. What I would like to do is repeat this with a 2.4 kernel (currently messing around with Bering Beta4...no probs running from floppy). What do I need to do to make this run from a hard drive? I'm hoping for something other than compile a 2.4 kernel with IDE support enabled, but I'll try to if I have no choice (severe lack of experience with compiling a kernel on my own). Is there a 2.4-IDE kernel out there? Am I stupid, and there's some simple config option to make the Bering 2.4 kernel boot from my HD? I'm running this on a Dell PowerApp Web 100 (single PIII-73/256MB/dual EEPro100) and using Bering Beta4/Syslinux 1.66 on my HD. Any info is *greatly* appreciated.
