Re: [LU] For those keeping score
What utter tosh! But in a fortnight that's seen us struggle against Wolves, lose abjectly to Boro and be humiliated by Citeh, I suppose you've got to cling to every glimmer of hope. Sure we out played Blackpool for long periods but we were a couple of Kenny saves from another abject defeat. To proclaim Morison as the messiah and that this is the end of hoofball is as ridiculous as intimating that hoofball was caused by Becchio. Colin obviously doesn't rate McCormack and preferred to play Becchio to McCormack, Poleon or Varney - hoofball is therefore Colin's interpretation of football and whilst he's still in charge it won't have gone away. adequate replacement for who? Becchio? We've been led to believe that your nan would be an adequate replacement for Becchio. I assumed you were on some of Naefy's substances when mentioning Varney and England in the same sentence. Varney was at the club whilst Becchio was here, why didn't Colin pick him - he signed him after all. Blackpool beat us under Holloway who left in November, they haven't had a manager for a month and are a shadow of the team that beat us before, yet still we made them look good. And - we tried to pass it!This makes good reading! I agree when you say you don't subscribe to opinion that a win is a win For sure, poor wins have little future. I'd much preferto be drawing (or perhaps even losing) having played a positive game and trying to do all the right things. I don't understand how sometimes we play this long hoof ball and other times we play passing - or at least try to. Perhaps it's to do with the quality of the oppo, if we're being over-run then panichoofing tactics are forced upon us. Or does NW brief the team before hand and say Ok guys, passing didn't work last week, let's try our hoofing plan todayI wonder if the reduced match price tickets and the larger crowds ended up with more revenue. Even if it was break even in money terms, a bigger home crowdhelps the team. [LU] Blackpool
Well done Colin, well done GFH, and well done all the players. That was good and enjoyable. During the afternoon I was tempted to give the game a miss and go to run my cubs as per usual on a Wednesday but I stuck with the lads and I am really glad I did! At kick off it was great to look around the ground and see a full South Stand - the £15 experiment worked as 25,500 fans turned up in place of the 17,000 or so who would otherwise have come. So we had 15,000 paying as opposed to 7,000 (we have 10k ST holders) so I would have thought, even allowing for kids, the gate receipts would be similar. So whilst 25k is nothing to get carried away with it was a big increase in recent midweek crowds and hopefully the 'returners' will be happy with what they saw The extra fans seemed to inspire the players right from the off, as they went about their task with a passion and commitment not seen in (m)any League games this season. We were on the front foot with a 4 3 3 system which led to Varney, Morison and McCormack interchanging and linking up quite well. Behind them Green, Tonge and Norris were lively and had some good pass and move stuff. As fans what we ask for is a bit of effort and a bit of skill and we got both yesterday. We were pretty much camped in their half and had a number of decent chances and half chance in the opening 45mins. The best probably fell to Morison who charged down a clearance and took the ball past the keeper, the angle was very tight as he shot and the ball hit a defender on the line and fell to McCormack whose shot was also charged down. Warnock (the full back) took the ball the whole length of the field and put in a good cross that we were unable to get on the end of, later another good cross was met by a Varney header but he was unable to get above the ball and it went over. McCormack and Varney both had decent shots which were saved / shaved the post as we continued to dominate. We did have a couple of scares when Blackpool broke quickly and Kenny had to pull off one great save from a shot just inside the area, the loose ball fell to a Blackpool player who put it in - luckily he was offside and the lino had spotted it. The ref (once again ?) gave us nothing - they got away with a blatant 'keeper picking up a backpass' Warnock was chopped down and the ref gave it to them etc. So half time came and there was a bit of a buzz around the place that has been missing recently , although we were also worried that we would rue the missed chances. Thankfully the second half proved to be a carbon copy of the first as we continued to dominate both possession - unusual for us- and territory and for once, actually created chances. Eventually the breakthrough came as a corner from McCormack was hit quite low and Green bent to try and get to it and missed the ball but so did the defenders and it fell to Norris just inside the penalty area - he hit it sweetly through a crowd of players , keeping it down and hitting it hard. The keeper, seeing it late, had no chance. The crowd went wild. Could we go on to win ? Well we nearly made it very hard for ourselves as Blackpool waltzed through us and put in a great low cross that thankfully no-one could quite touch into the net. Then a few minutes later some good interplay ended with Byram chipping in a lovely ball, Norris bent and tried to head it back to tee up Green but ex Leeds scapegoat Crainey intercepted the pass and his 'clearance went across the area into the six yard box to an unmarked Morison - this was the moment of truth for him - the new striker or the new Billy Barndoor ?- well he controlled it with his first touch and then with his second he buried it into the net , a good finish but it seemed to be in slow motion. So 2 0 and the question now was could we keep a clean sheet. We defended deeper and deeper and failed to keep the ball so it kept coming back but we mainly restricted them. Then to shore things up on came Brown and his first action was to foul a forward going nowhere on the edge of the box. Thankfully they wasted the good opportunity. They had one other good chance when the forward headed over when he should have scored and so we held on for a deserved victory and a deserved clean sheet.Only our second home league win of the season where we have won by more than one goal. So hats off all round and it does keep the dream alive for a little while longer - I think it is just a dream,. only Boro are catchable and we are still 6 points above us (albeit we have a game in hand) , Brighton are much closer to them and both have a better goal difference. As for individuals - before the game we wondered whether Ashdown should get the nod over Kenny, but Kenny proved his worth today with a couple of good saves in a match in which he was mainly redundant. It was my first view of both Stephen Warnock and Morison . Warnock was what I expected solid but unspectacular , he did his job and looked decent with one good run. Morison was a bit of a mixed

Re: [LU] Blackpool
One thing to add, having watched the goals (for whomsoeer it was who asked, look for them in Daily Motion), it was a really good and confident finish by Morison. He opened up his body as if to shoot across the keeper, waited for him to dive, then put it in the top of the net on the nearside. To convert your first chance in front of the kop at a new club like that is the sign to me of a natural finisher. Very impressive. [LU] Last Night
Have to say I am surprised at some of the euphoria exhibited on the list about last night. There were plenty of things that pleased me but I think we are so used to dining on scraps that when a scabby chip is delivered we think its scampi! The real difference between the two teams was our defence who played excellent and theirs who didn't. The two goals they gave us were shocking defending. I am surprised at the stats on our possession because they outplayed us in midfield for long parts of the game. Morison and McCormack looked really good together though - Colin played a 4-3-3 which made for a very open game which we could easily have lost. The amount of times that Warnock (Steven) aimlessly knocked long balls to no one, seriously I lost count, and we look v vulnerable for any set plays in our area. Varney man of the match? He missed a header from one yard out last night stood in the middle of the goal. He can't pass a ball more than five yards and when he beats a man he usually knocks it straight into touch. FFS the fans have even created a song taking the piss out of him. How Colin can play him before Diouf, says it all really. Ill start getting excited when our dreadful away form improves, it can't get worse can it. Well done GFH on ticket pricing last night, good to see less spaces in ER. Every football supporter thinking of them probably gets shiny eyes. But they are dreamy castles, you can hardly afford anymore. For years, it seemed as if English supporters had accepted the fact to cultivate their fan culture not inside the stands but solely in the pub nearby the stadium. Confronted with ticket prices at GBP 60 (approx.. EUR 69) onwards though, this is an understandable reaction. But now, organised protest is kicking-off and for the first time, after a long time, it's also raising public attention. Read More... Partizan Minsk on Tour! Now now Rich don't go rattling cages - we are all happy today and do not need to rake over old stuff about players who are no longer our concern ! I could not believe how hard it was to do my report without referring to a certain Argie and comparing what we did or did not do , to what we would have done. To be fair Varney was excellent - many have him as mom. Morison was tired by the end but took his goal well and did enough to suggest that maybe, just maybe, he will become our new hero and a decent number 9 Dave On Thu, Feb 21, 2013 at 5:54 PM, Richard Naef rich...@triumph-computers.co.uk wrote: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xxo9j4_follow-weareleedsmot3-leeds-united-v -blackpool-extended-highlights-lufc_sport#.USZSjB1hiSo Thanks Dave, that bloke Varney had loads of chances in the 6 yrd box didn't he, pity we don't have anyone who could convert them ;) ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org MARCHING ON TOGETHER ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org MARCHING ON TOGETHER
