[LU] Rallying call from McDermott
I know talk is cheap etc but I do like this bloke From the OS here is Brian McDemotts call to the fans United manager Brian McDermott has issued his message to the club's fans ahead of the start of the new campaign by urging everyone to stand together. This is a message for the season not just this weekend, he said. We all need to stand together. I'm very excited about managing Leeds United and I've said to the players how important it is to play for that badge. And it's a big badge. I'm delighted to be the figurehead and be the manager. I know there's a lot of goodwill out there and the fans want us to do well. I can just sense it. With almost 30,000 tickets already sold for the weekend, Elland Road will be buzzing on Saturday with the highest opening day crowd for some years. Season Ticket sales have also increased and the players have done their bit this week by visiting the city to spread the word. Season Tickets are still available, and fans are reminded that they represent better value than watching on a match by match basis. ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org MARCHING ON TOGETHER

Re: [LU] Rallying call from McDermott
Yes the ticket sales are looking good - biggest first day crowd for a long time. There does seem to be lots of optimism about at the moment - even on Sat when there was less than 10,000 the mood was positive and upbeat (at least pre game- the result and performance put a bit of a damper on things) There does seem to be the feel of Wilko's promotion season (although he brought in some big name players to get things upbeat) or the minus 15 season (when despite major adversity there was a 'togetherness' about the place) Like i posted earlier this could be the most important ordinary league game for ages - a good result, performance and atmosphere and we could really get on a roll - as we did in both the above seasons (at least from the first home game under Wilko) Although we will never replicate that 1989 atmosphere (my favourite ever season) I do genuinely believe that once we get going we are right up there with the best in the country - albeit the standard has plummeted post all seater etc, most Prem grounds really are quiet- and IF we get behind the team we can make ER a fortress and a place where visiting teams fear to come. Having said all that, there is a nagging feeling at the back of my mind , increased when I look at the team and squad, that it could all come crashing down and very quickly. A bad performance and result on Saturday and fans will think that, despite all their efforts and good ideas, nothing has changed and GFH are not the answer, and that we are destined for another season of mediocrity and disappointment. Of course I hope I am wrong and hope that whatever happens the fans will remain upbeat and 100% behind McDermott and the players. I do believe that McDermott realises that LUFC is not just another football club, that we are a bit special and that he wants to be here for a long time and has a long term plan. Great post that Dave. I so suspect sound bites. They should get on with doing what they are supposed to Backing the manager. Here I feel they are failing miserably. But I am in a minority. So I express that opinion knowing I have the right to do so. Yet not really expecting any support for my point of view. I don’t believe that we own the club. Nor do I really believe that the owner think so. So why say it? To a doubter, like myself, it’s so much flim flam. Get your ‘Brownie points’ with points on the board. But as I say...a minority voice. Re: [LU] Best quote from Salah in his interview
Mike, I read it differently. The Club and the Business are separate in the eyes of the owners. The club stands for the history, tradition and ethos that is Leeds United football club, whereas their interests are purely in making money. Therefore they are happy to call us the de facto owners of the Club. Making money in football is aligned to a happy support base, so if you make statements like this, and sack Bates, and remove all his sundry negative business alliances with the club, reduce ticket prices etc etc you encourage people to come back to Elland Road. This is borne out by the statistic that we will have our biggest opening day crowd for several years, despite the lack of (huge) investment in the transfer market. A large regular attendance boosts the coffers (and possibly the transfer budget) and makes us a more attractive prospect for a potential investor. So where you might read the statement as flim flam, it is not without purpose. I salute the fact that they recognize the fans at last - we've had years of Bates p*ssing us off, so it's a welcome change. Ultimately it cost NOTHING to make such statements so why not? Re: [LU] Best quote from Salah in his interview
Aren’t we all expecting revolution of the squad rather than evolution? Admittedly we need a couple but a good manager should get more out of last year's team than Colin plus the couple of new signings Is it really a good idea to bring in 6 or 7 new faces like we always do. It never works I guess there isn’t the cash to spend, that’s the same for many clubs, GFH have spent money, more than Bates, they have got rid of him and like people have said there is a positive air. We will always need another signing but if this is it is that so bad? -Original Message- From: leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org [mailto:leedslist-boun...@gn.apc.org] On Behalf Of Brendan Osborne Sent: 31 July 2013 16:31 To: beden...@gmail.com; Leeds List; David Nattan Subject: Re: [LU] Best quote from Salah in his interview Mike, I read it differently. Since (with my 20yr ST) I do not pay for League games I am happy to put money into the club (albeit it is only £50 a year for LUTV) and think I get my money's worth Certainly if I ever live abroad the first thing I would sort is my subscription to LUTV My only gripe with it is that the 'live commentary' is a few seconds behind and you can see a goal has been scored on Sky Sports Saturday before you have commentary on it.
