[LU] Bates

2013-10-02 Thread Ian Murray
Because I am sad when I was home alone last night I had a look at the press
conference and SSN coverage if the Bates take over in 05 on YouTube. I know our
very own Betty was chair of LuSt and that time and gave an interview that was
nothing short of prophetic.

Just wanted to say fair play! Have you thought about getting back on board? I
note that he couldn't help himself but have a dig at you in the press
conference...what an utter c@nr he is.

Re: [LU] Bournemouth

2013-10-02 Thread nat...@sky.com
I agree re Diouf, maybe with Ross now being moved forward Diouf can take his
place behind the strikers. If the other 3 midfielders are Austin, Green and
Mowatt then we have enough energy to make up for Diouf's lack of mobility but
it would allow him to pull the strings.
A bit harsh on Tonge to be dropped but he is pretty average most of the time.
Then it is a case of finding the best partner for Ross from Varney, Hunt,
Poleon and Smith.

Allow Byram to ease his way back into the right back spot (again harsh on
Peltier but such is life) and decide which 2 from Lees, Pearce and Wootton make
the least mistakes and we will not be far off the play offs.

Of course this also means leaving out Murphy, our biggest purchase so a gamble
for a manager, and a player I still have high hopes for but who is yet to grab
a game by the scruff of the neck and control it

I agree about concentrating on what players can do rather than their
deficiencies - I have said loads of times it is too easy to pick on a player at
this level and pull him apart for the things he cannot do and is not really
fair.

McDermott is here for the long haul, I believe, and we need to stay 100% behind
him. The mood on the bus back to Leeds centre was mixed, some right moaners,
some appreciating how superior we were and how we have indeed improved since
Warnock.

The crowd of under 22,000 was poor until you look at other attendances -
Birmingham and Blackburn only got 12 & 13k

Dave

My only criticism is that Diouf isn't getting a look in.  I still think we
create more with him in the side than not in it.  Is there something we
don't know?  Is it a fitness thing? (like Byram?)

So I'm not doom and gloom and my glass is still just over half-full.

Re: [LU] Bournemouth

Quite right Nick the cross to Pearce for the second was indeed Mowatt - I have
seen it on TV. Also from TV it did look a penalty BUT he did not have control
of the ball so it was not a clear goal scoring opportunity and so he should not
have been sent off. Perhaps the ref follows the Sky experts rules rather than
the rules of the game and decided the keeper was 'the last man' ?

I also agree that for the most part they were woeful and still caused us
problems - I always want to concentrate on us but I suppose I should have made
it plainer how bad they were

Also their goal was a real 'lets all turn off at the same time' moment. one
that we have seen so often since McAllister, and no manager has yet sorted out.
I guess that Wootton got dropped because despite being steady he has fallen
into the same habits

As for Cairns , the last I read Ashdown was injured and I do not think he has
been playing for the reserves / development squad

Hopefully that was one of those "confidence" games where it doesn't matter if

I don't know where you sit Dave, but no-one round us (Kop, west stand side)
thought it was a penalty - Hunt had pushed the ball past the keeper and was
never going to catch it...not even sure about the amount of contact...but to
add on a sending off as well was plain ridiculous. We did have a much better
shout for a penalty later in the half when Warnock was body checked in the box,
but that ref is never going to award us another penalty as long as he works.

I prefer Lees to Pearce and would be happier watching Lees partner
Wootton...even in injury time Pearce was done for speed and was all over the

awake enough and just got in first...he is an accident waiting to happen. But

Re: [LU] Bournemouth

2013-10-02 Thread Ted
Re Dave's Report

Thank goodness... an optimistic report in a sea of whinging!

I agree with nearly all that you said Dave, I think on another day had we
had the "rub-of-the-green" we would have scored a bucketful. It was just
one of those nights when things just didn't go how they should (penalty
decision aside)

All the people sat round me moaned all game and picked on every player when
he made an error (Mowatt aside). Walking away from the game I met up with
some other mates (who go to every game home & away) and they moaned that in
general we are rubbish! And as for the whingers on Radio Leeds...! I
thought I was on my own when I think we've definitely imporved from the
Warnock/Bates days and we are just going through a sticky patch.

As McD ponits out, he couldn't get the other couple of players in that he
wanted. I guess these would be a striker and a winger. Given two decent
additions I don't think we're far off. Instead of looking at everyone's
frailities why can't people see their good points? We're a Championship
club that can't over invest - not a team at the top of the prem playing in
Champion's League!

I thought overall all our players did okay last night, maybe with the
exception of Hunt. I'm not doubting he's a decent player but it just isn't
working out for him at Leeds. Also last night when we pushed forward with
a bit of aggression/speed I thought we looked okay (admittedely it was
against 10) - we look far better than when we break, and then pass sideways
to allow the opposition time to re-group. I guess an attacking winger
would help on this score.

On the penalty decision, from our viewpoint (NE Corner Upper), I thought it
was 50/50 and felt it was a bit harsh when he got sent off.

Someone said to me that they didn't think McD knows what he is doing, i.e.
which is his best team. He himself sort of admitted that on the radio
after, saying he was unsure who to start with at the moment. He did praise
Mowatt though (rightly so)

My only criticism is that Diouf isn't getting a look in. I still think we
create more with him in the side than not in it. Is there something we
don't know? Is it a fitness thing? (like Byram?)

So I'm not doom and gloom and my glass is still just over half-full.
