I think you're reading too much into this and forgetting that he's the Head 
Coach and not the Manager.

Just as he's been clear that he's given the club a shopping list, he would have 
provided his input on who was surplus to requirements.

As he has said, he/we can only assume targets identified are 100% as anything 
else would be weakening the squad.

Let's have this conversation again on February 1st.

As much as anything he seems irritated by the timing. We've sold Mowatt just 
before a match he would undoubtedly have started (at Sutton) but without having 
bought any replacement cover. That clearly negatively affects the squad 
rotation Monk can do today with a view to Weds match at Blackburn. Ideally 
today you would rest both Hernandez and Roofe. 

Given Mowatt didn't feature for Barnsley yesterday that seems odd and will have 
seemed odd to the Head Coach.

Difficult. He has to be careful with Bartley and Jansson so understandable 
leaving them out. Problem is that only leaves him Cooper at centre back. Ayling 
needs a break too. Whitehouse selection feels like a bit of a 2 fingers to the 
owners for selling Mowatt before buying a replacement.

Diabolical from start to finish - in fact from before the start, from the time 
yesterday when he decided to leave half the team at home !It shows a total 
disrespect to both the FA cup and the opposition.
Hard to bother getting angry - why should we care when Monk and the club don't ?
OK Sutton, Lincoln etc will be loving it but the fact that 2 non league teams 
are in the next round for first time ever and so few Prem teams have made it, 
just shows that the FA Cup, once the greatest cup competition in the world is 
now just an unwanted distraction for all Prem and most Championship clubs
From a Leeds point of view it shows that Silvestri has not learned from his 
mistakes - just look at the penalty, and that Cooper, Grimes and Antonsson are 
not good enough and that Coyle and Denton have a long way to go before they can 
'make it' (Not much hope that Whitehouse or McKay ever will !)---
As I say diabolical but who really cares .

I think there were several factors influencing Monks selection today. Brighton 
and Newcastle went out of the cup yesterday so I think he probably thought that 
we'd be better off without the distraction. Rumours that Mowatt was sold 
without his knowledge. so maybe he wanted to send a message to MC. Who knows?


Feel sorry for the fans who attended having to spend their hard earned cash to 
watch us capitulate like that.


Fortunately we still have a lot to play for and if we go up this season, I'll

I'm not sure it shows a lack of respect for the FA cup rather than the 
realities of modern football.  We aren't going to win the FA cup, Monk has a 
limited squad and has to rest platers as he's not sure if any new ones are 
coming in and we have an important game coming up midweek.   I'm pissed off but 
realistic, happy for Sutton who wanted it more and I feel sorry for the 
debutants, they didn't have a leader on the pitch to help them and they all 
looked a bit lost, hope they get another chance.

If we get to the playoffs I think all this will be forgotten.

Hard to bother getting angry - why should we care when Monk and the club don't ?
OK Sutton, Lincoln etc will be loving it but the fact that 2 non league teams 
are in the next round for first time ever and so few Prem teams have made it, 
just shows that the FA Cup, once the greatest cup competition in the world is 
now just an unwanted distraction for all Prem and most Championship clubs From 
a Leeds point of view it shows that Silvestri has not learned from his mistakes 
- just look at the penalty, and that Cooper, Grimes and Antonsson are not good 
enough and that Coyle and Denton have a long way to go before they can 'make 
it' (Not much hope that Whitehouse or McKay ever will !)--- As I say diabolical 
but who really cares .

For me this goes down as the worst piece of football management in Leeds United

I think there were several factors influencing Monks selection today. Brighton 
and Newcastle went out of the cup yesterday so I think he probably thought that 
we'd be better off without the distraction. Rumours that Mowatt was sold 
without his knowledge. so maybe he wanted to send a message to MC. Who knows?


Feel sorry for the fans who attended having to spend their hard earned cash to 
watch us capitulate like that.


Fortunately we still have a lot to play for and if we go up this season, I'll 
forgive him for today!

Yes they can but probably not as effectively, so if you have a target - play 
offs - don't let emotion get in the way and stay focused.

I think he picked a team to blood a few youngsters with the hope that they 
would win and if it was a draw, I suspect he'd have played the same team in the 
replay. I don't think winning the FA cup is a realistic target for us, 
nevertheless I did want us to win and progress, and losing to Sutton is 
embarrassing.

face. We've only seen him under pressure early in the season and he nearly

In answer to Rich Ws question, did they go there to lose, the evidence 
definitely says yes! We may, as a club, be better off out than in, but what a 
fucking horror-show that was, and the travelling fans should be given their 
money back - you expect at least a token gesture, but that line-up said it all. 
That they weren't anywhere near capable was Monk's decision, and why you would 
bring Sacko on beggars belief. At least if they'd played Bridcutt and Vierra 
we'd have got a draw, but obviously we didn't even want that. As others have 
now said, clubs see the cups as an irrelevance, and I for one have learnt my 
lesson and won't watch them again. We should be fined by the FA for putting out 
that team!

Internet talk tonight seems to be Alfonso Pedraza - Spanish U-21 international 
left winger on loan with a 10m (!) purchase if we go up and Ashley Fletcher to 
come in from West Ham. Fair do's those two signings would, in paper, be spot on 
in terms of what we need. 

I think today showed we could also do with centre back cover.

We lost to Histon a few years ago.  Sutton's loss today is not in the same
league, pun intended!  Big deal.  Big bloody deal.  I felt much more pain
losing at home to PNE in the league a few years back 6-4, after being 4-1
up, together with many more utter debacles in this league over the last
dozen+ years than *any* of our last 20 years' cup exits...  

 

I've gotten only one "haha" text, from a Scum fan and that was only in jest.
I can take that.  What real embarrassment?  No one else cares about The FA
Cup nowadays, so why should we!  Sutton, FFS!

 

If we go up at the end of the season, no one give a second thought to what
happened today.  What would people really prefer: a run to the semi-finals
(we have not been past the 6th round in many seasons) and come 7th, or go
out now and pretty much guarantee a play-off spot.  I know which I would
much prefer!  Would seem to be that Monk and the owners are of the same
opinion.

 

The crying and whinging that is taking place on the list tonight is a tad
embarrassing.  Grow a pair, boys and girl(s)!

Eh sorry but bollocks. A cup run and doing well in the league are not mutually 
exclusive. It is only another 4/5 games in the season for ffs. In fact I think 
a good cup run would be a morale booster.
