Re: [LU] Wowser!
If big Kev gives Bamford the competition he needs to play like he did second half then it’s a master stroke. Fully expect both players to play their part, but given Kev looks like exactly the same type of player as Bamford (perhaps with better finishing) and knowing what Bielsa is like, they won’t play together. Loved Bamford's celebration after the 3rd.he just knew there would be such a roar of delight he immediately covered his ears! Trying to keep my feet on the ground and remembering that after we had great comeback wins v Villa and B/burn last year we were convinced that we were nailed on for promotion. We need to follow that up with a solid victory over Wigan (we owe them a sound beating), hopefully including a bloody clean sheet, and then try to get something from our 2 hardest games still to come, For and B/ford away. If we're still top with a bit of a cushion after those 3 games, then I might start to believe. If you watch their second goal, the Millwall player cupped his ears to the Leeds fans, in the traditional “I can’t hear you” taunt. I think Bamford, being the shithouse that he is, was referring to that? Ed. Re: [LU] Wowser!
At the start of last season Bielsa said we would make mistakes and give the ball away at times, but we would fight to get it back. (Am probably paraphrasing but you get my gyst) - Ayling is the living embodiment of that. Passing with his right foot has been a challenge, but Milwall made him cross with his left and we found out he really does have a weaker foot! Then we score off one - funny old world innit? I don’t know yet whether that is season defining result, but it changed my mood no end. Alioski was brilliant, Bamford had a great game, and top of the league again. Of course Kiko still tried to give them chances, Dallas discovered that he can add midfield to left back as places where he shouldn’t play, and the panic Cooper got into near the end was reminiscent of old Cooper. If, IF, somehow we can cobble 2 or 3 wins together, that would be very much appreciated. Oh, and the ref last night - really, shockingly poor. Finally, Leeds fans chucking stuff - we will be very lucky not to be docked 25 points for that! The morons need to pack that in! [LU] Millwall
United are back, Bamford is back, our promotion dream is back Whilst we still have 20 or whatever it is cup finals to go, this game did seem to have some sort of defining moment about it. Pre game the talk was split between discussing the new arrivals and whether our blip had become a slump and would it end or become a total collapse Despite our 10 day rest and the fact they played on Saturday it was Millwall who came out all guns blazing and really got into us, knocking us out of our stride and preventing us from keeping or even getting the ball. We had just about scrambled one corner away when they got another. The ref had a word with Alioski in the pushing and shoving that precedes every corner, and after his telling off he went to a different part of the area. The cross came to where Alioski had previously been and their lad put a free header into the net. I recall seeing a stat that if we concede first we do not win so this was not the start we wanted Things went from bad to worse as Bamford hit a tame shot right at the keeper when he should have scored. We started to exert some pressure despite very odd refereeing decisions. First he gave a corner to us and changed his mind, then a bit later a rasping drive was well saved as the keeper used both hands to push it past the post, his teammates congratulated him but the ref amazingly gave a goal kick. We somewhat naughtily replayed it on the big screen just to ensure everyone saw his howler. Then Millwall broke and the ball seemed to go out of play but they ran into our area and 2 players sandwiched him and Alioski was deemed to have fouled him. So 0 2 and things were looking dodgy as we continued, as per usual, creating and missing chances. When half time came, thankfully the boos from the crowd were aimed at the ref. So 2 down against the form team, a team with a great away record, whilst we are in a slump, and never win from behind, things did not look great The second half however became a thing of wonder and of beauty We got an early corner and for the 2nd ? time this season a corner crossed into the box ended up with us scoring! The ball came through a group of players to Harrison whose shot was brilliantly saved but fell kindly to Bamford who tapped in from close range. Game on From then on it was one way traffic, as Costa had his best time in a Leeds shirt and Alioski and Klich ran riot. We played some wonderful stuff , a real joy to watch and they just could not live with us. We swarmed forward again and again from all angles and in one such attack the ball came to Pablo on the edge of the box and he fired home 2 2 and we were rampant. It appeared as if it was just a matter of time and do it proved as a lovely cross was headed home by the now confident Bamford. Like many I am not sure what his hands over his ears celebrations meant but I did not think they were aimed at the fans. We continued to totally dominate but as per usual we missed more chances than we scored, Costa hitting the bar with one good effort and Klich with the miss of the season A little panic set in towards the end when they sent Matt Smith on a got a couple of corners , a massive cheer going up when Kiko came out and caught one The final whistle was greeted with some relief but also great elation, this felt important and it feels like we are back on track. The icing on the cake being West Brom lost yet again so we left the ground grinning from ear to ear and chanting we are top the league, hopefully we are there to stay, and all this without our 2 new signings getting on the pitch WOWSER indeed as someone else posted earlier. I cant wait for Saturday now and our chance to take done sort of revenge on Wigan Dave Sent from Sky Yahoo Mail on Android ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ RIP Jimmy WAC-COE
Re: [LU] Millwall
Hardly relevant anymore, but I was particularly upset about the ball-on-the-touchline incident leading to their 2nd goal. It has been a bugbear of mine down the years that that law is not properly administered. The ball wasn't out..it had not COMPLETELY crossed the line. BUT, incidents like that are given as out 99% of the time. I am usually left screaming at the tv when it happens...and it usually is a complete irrelevance anyway. Trust the one time when the linesman gets it right to cost US a goal! Perhaps the reason why this specific, admittedly minor, thing particularly annoys me is that in 35 years involvement in football as a player and coach the only yellow card I ever got was when, as a coach, one of my players chased a ball towards the line and reached it right in front of me. He dragged it back when the it was on (NOT over) the line and set off for goal, and the bloody lino flagged for a throwin. All I did was shout at him that the whole of the ball had not crossed the line, and the pillock ref gave me a yellow card. That was 4-3 from 3-0 down. 2-3 at half time though. 1997. Re: [LU] Millwall
Great comeback, felt relieved rather than jubilant at the end, which is probably unfair after such a performance. Have to say that Pablo seemed to be the one came out after half time with the belief that they could still win. The early goal helped. What about Bielsa selling the Dummy? All week he has been saying that White would play in midfield, then played him at centre-back with Klich (mainly) in DMF. - Good one. It even took the dopey sky sports red button commentator 20 mins to work it out. Funny how we see different things. From my perspective. Casilla 6 - Where was he on the first goal? Ayling 7 - Puts more dangerous crosses in than Costa, but watched his man head it in for Millwall's first, and stopped momentarily before the Penalty. White 7 - Did not do too much wrong. Cooper 6 - Started and finished with a couple of errors, but decent in between. Alioski 7 - Best game for Leeds, but dived in late for their Penalty, and needs to stop hitting most of his shots over the bar. Klich 7 - Grew into Phillips' position but still got forward. Couple of disappointing passes and the miss of the season when he got there though. Costa 5 - Just doesn't do it for me. Too casual in his own half and never seems to get a good ball in. Dallas 6 - A bit of a passenger, but gets more shots on target than most. Harrison 7 - Great workrate, and real skill. Invariably disappointing with crosses and shots. Bamford 7 - Game of 2 halves for him. More confident for Wigan game now. I'll feel more confident overall if we ar still in the top 2 after Forest and Brentford away? Have to say the bech still looks thin in terms of experience. KOT. UK Shared Business Services Ltd. Registered in England and Wales as a limited company. Company number 6330639. Re: [LU] Millwall
You just reminded me Kev - Costa! I’m really surprised by how ineffective and lightweight he is. I presume if Poveda is any sort of player then Costa’s days are numbered. Re Dallas, I’d start with Shackleton over him every game, although concede Dallas has contributed more in some games than I would have believed possible. Re: [LU] Millwall
You're wasting your angst guys..Poveda won't get a start unless Harry or Costa get injured or suspended. And while you're about it, don't expect Januaryin to get a game unless Bamford ditto. Mind you, we have got 7 games in Feb so I suppose even Mr. Neverchange may think about resting a few people.
