Grim is definitely a good description of the situation. We are now relying on 3
teams being worse than us but I honestly don’t there are.Leicester showed they
can play a bit and were  far too good to us. Maddison is an annoying twat but
he’s streets ahead of Roca and Vardy at 52 years old is simply a better striker
than Bamford will ever be.Yes, first half we gave them a game, mainly through
effort rather than intelligent play. McKennie and Rodrigo in particular upped
their effort and really made a difference and we harried Leicester into making
mistakes and scored a good goal.So going in ahead at half-time , the mood in
the stands was fairly positive but that soon changed when you realised that we
couldn’t keep that up and Leicester realised that with their midfield they
could take us apart at will, and they did. It was wave after wave of blue
shirts moving forward into our box and we couldn’t stop it. Gracia dithered
with his subs - he was having a conference with his staff for 10 mins before he
finally made a decision and that was eventually forced as Rodrigo was out on
his feet and running the risk of getting sent off. Gracie’s answer wasn’t Willy
or 35 million pound Rutter but Aaronson. I thought the bloke near me was going
to have a fit - he was livid and so we’re a lot of fans. I was hoping Aaronson
could have more of an impact as a sub against tired legs but like his whole
season, he was unable to make an impact.Roca, who had been poor throughout, was
out on his feet from 60 mins but Gracia kept him on as Maddison and co danced
around him. At least Marsch used to replace Roca regularly in the 2nd half, I
actually think Gracia doesn’t know his players (that’s not altogether
surprising) but he also doesn’t look like he knows a system that will suit
them. We go from pushing on to being ultra defensive and sitting back. It’s
awful to watch. To be fair, the crowd stayed with the team and I only heard a
few Orta out chants from the Kop after the final whistle but if truth be told
Leicester should have walked this and it could have been another Palace if
Meslier hadn’t made a couple of top class saves and Leicester hadn’t been
unlucky with 2 off side goals.I think the writing is on the wall.
Meslier - 8 Kept is in the game
Ayling - 6. Barnes was subbed and scored so you could argue he did his job, but
like all the defence he really struggled 2nd half
Firpo - 3 Offered nothing going forward and struggled in defence. Summerville
did a better job at left back
Cooper - 6. Battled hard but couldn’t cope with the blue wave once out midfield
had collapsed
Koch - 5. Ditto
Roca - 3. I’ve said all there is to say, he’s not good enough. He gave the ball
away repeatedly and even his half decent looking passes rarely reach their
intended target. Has to be dropped. I’d play Forshaw and any of the U-21s in
his place. Total liability.
McKennie- 6. Great first half, stepped it up but ran out of steam 2nd half.
Harrison- 7. Probably our best player on the night. Tried constantly to make
things happen but his final ball at times is lacking.
Rodrigo- 8. All for effort. He was like a raging bull and the crowd appreciated
that. Ran out of steam 2nd half but he’d fine his bit.
Bamford -3. Poor. Missed the sitter at the end and nobody was surprised. He’s a
confidence player and he’s got none. Compare to Vardy - he was always going to
score, his body language is positive- Bamford is the total opposite.
Sinistera- 6. Great goal but then got injured which seems to be the story of
his Leeds career.
Subs
Summerville- 5. Played as an extra left back. Never seen him make so many
tackles. Criminal.

To be fair, I think we're doing pretty well considering we start every game
with 10 men.

Roca HAS to go. Jonathan Douglas could do a better job.

2023-04-26 Thread John Boocock
Having struggled through the last two matches manfully, I was prepared
for the very worst last night. I cheered up no end with Sinisterra's
great goal, but by the time we had reached 60 minutes it was clear that
normal service had been resumed.

Yes Harrison looked the best of the bunch even if his aim is sometimes
wayward and yes Meslier had a much better game (admittedly against a
less skilled attack), and here's another but, why the hell did we ever
buy Aaronson, McKennie or our new bench warmer Rutter?

Surely we have more potential amongst the kids? Just cast your mind back
to the handover from Graham to O'Leary and see what happened. Yes I know
Risible had his shaky hands all over some very expensive signings after
that, but surely the time is fast approaching when we will see the folly
of shoving out James, Clarke and Geldhart whilst relying on Marsh's best
mates from a world where football is clearly a figment of someone's
imagination.

We need someone with a properly organised footballing brain in charge,
even if that means preparing for what I consider to be the joys of the
only real League in England, the Championship.

The shadow of our recent past still hangs over us and round every corner
there appear to be traps set by those involved in that past. Those sat
in the board room should perhaps think about what renewal is required to
combat that past as until whoever is in there this week does that we
will continue to look backwards. In fear of our own shadows.

On the other hand if we stay up.

Betty

Javi Gracia - it’s hard to believe his talks can be in any way inspirational -
his press conferences are insipid, pointless exercises which give no confidence
that he knows how to deal with this. I suspect the differing qualities of our
players did come as a shock to him though. All that said, he has managed 3 wins
and 2 draws from his 10 games ‘in charge’, so he’s here until the season end.
There’s zero chance of him being kept on imho, regardless of staying up or
going down. We made that mistake with Marsch!

I still can’t get over Roca’s passing last night - even in a team known for
its’ inability to pass to a white shirt, he was spectacularly awful!

[LU] Leicester

2023-04-26 Thread nattan--- via Leedslist
Steve Waugh once said " you've just dropped the world cup" to a SA player when
he dropped a catch Last night the lad near me gave his version " you've just
relegated Leeds " aimed at Bamford after THAT miss. Put it in, its 3 points and
possible salvation
Hard to know where to start,  on the good side, we certainly put in the effort,
McKinnie had his best game for us ( a low bar admittedly) Mes made some good
saves,  we scored a really good goal,  and in the last few minutes when we
really went for it we did look threatening with a good header saved on the
line, another shot saved by the keepers feet and the miss, the crowd stuck with
the team right till the final whistle ( some Orta out and sack the board as we
left the stands)

On the bad side Roca - rhymes with shocker,  enough said, the fact that they
always looked the better side, cooper,  Firpo and Koch all making mistakes for
their goal, our inability to pass to a white shirt, the odd subs - Gnonto?- and
the miss by Bamford . Sinnisterra getting injured again.

Let's face it we got lucky,  not a single fan or player complained when they
lashed it home to take the lead. There was disbelief when VAR got involved and
disallowed it , a real let off.     The second ref , sorry Maddison,  got on
the end of a cross and was inches away from opening the scoring.  If either had
been goals we would have been a goal down and the crowd would have turned.
Things nearly went even worse when we did our customary collapse after
conceding but luckily Vardy had strayed offside
So a point when 3 was needed
Before the game we discussed how many points would keep us up - 34 or 35 was
the general  view- we have 30 so somehow need another 4 or 5 - we have to go
for it v Bournemouth,  sitting back is not working.
Bamford has been half hero half villain all his Leeds career- last night was
villain plus. Let's hope he can redeem himself v Bournemouth with the winner
Not looking good

his press conferences are insipid, pointless exercises which give no confidence
that he knows how to deal with this.

YAY! Up there with your best, well I nearly spilt my coffee anyway:

Marsh's best
mates from a world where football is clearly a figment of someone's
imagination.

Re: [LU] Fwd: Prolonging the agony

2023-04-26 Thread Simon McNally via Leedslist
Not much to add.
Thought we were ok first half and McKennie had one of his better games,
although as has been said the bar is fairly low.
Roca is a truly awful footballer. His poor passing is bad enough but what
annoys me is how the game just passes him by. He doesn’t close down and tackle
or track runners. I’d rather have Forshaw or Greenwood and I don’t rate either
of them.
The goal we conceded was suitably rubbish defending again. The throw in was
just below where I sit and the way we half heartedly challenged for it led to
their break. I think we had at least three players near the throw and no one
put in a proper challenge.
Don’t get why Gnonto was kept on the bench or why Aaronson came off it.
At least we didn’t lose.

I'd actually forgotten about that. It really was the most comical 20 seconds of
'football' I've seen at a PL game. We just seemed incapable of kicking the ball
in a straight line and Roca's attempt was laughable.
