Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread Robert Heath
We had a breakaway from their corner in the 1st half...3 or 4 v
1.all Gray had to do, under no pressure, was slide the ball into
the inside left channel and we were through one-on-one v the
keeper..and he shanked it horribly straight down the pitch. Farke's
fault, obviously.

If James's shot had been an inch lower, and had bounced down and in a la
Geoff Hurst, I'm pretty sure we'd have gone on to win that match.

My point is that all the criticism of manager & players is unjust. It was
just football (and the Triple Curse we were up against: London/Playoffs/Cup
finals!)

Sean,
That’s a great post and I read it nodding my head to a lot of what you said.
Overall, I think Farke deserves credit because he’s taken a team in disarray to
nearly getting promoted. If you think about the confusion around the first 6
games and that team we took to Brum ( Shackleton and co) and got nothing, that
cost us dear.On the flip side you have to look at the limitations of Farke. I
don’t think he knows what his best team is ? Is Rutter a 10/9? , is Piroe a
10/9 ? He gave us a 20 min chat as to why Piroe is 10 and not a 9 but then has
changed his mind. A Norwich fan said to me before Farke had been in charge with
us that for even a game that he is limited which cost him in the higher levels.
I think you can see this week in week out. The passing around at the back is
predictable and boring. I think he’s a Championship manager with little to
Suggs he could really make an impact on the PL. so sack now ? I don think so
cos I’ve enjoyed most I this season but if you look at logically there’s an
argument to get rid but you have to have a replacement and as far as I am aware
there isn’t !

Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread Jonathan Wynne via Leedslist

Absolutely. A set piece coach should long since have been a no-brainer.
Nothing to lose and 6-12 goals per season to gain surely.
And we must sign 1 or 2 good players who happen to be 6 foot 4 and can
help convert set piece chances. We've still not replaced Pontus in this
respect.

The suggestion that Farke should be sacked is beyond ridiculous.

I do think he and we need to appoint a specialist set piece coach
though.

I'm currently pinning my hopes on the thought that maybe just maybe we

might be able to keep Rodon on another season loan.

I'm reasonably sanguine about another year in the Chumpionship...
I'm

just cross that Soton are going up.

Too slow and predictable in the build up (as we have been for a while),

Seen a lot of calls for Farke to go. Two schools of thought though I

Can you sack someone who got 90 points and was one game away from

The other side would say he’s been out thought by Martin three times

I'm numbly upset but no great passion - all a bit vague really, bit like

From that moment on we never really looked like getting into the game

Too many of our players didn’t believe in it (and that has to be laid on

Rutter & Cree were well below par, and should’ve been replaced on the

And the combination Rutter/Piroe hasn’t worked well ever & won’t work in

The £170m owed isn't all due yet, I understand it's about £70m to pay next
few months.
The phasing of transfer fees is about cash and nothing to do with FFP,
which is around profit and loss.
The ability of 49ers to invest is constrained only by the FFP rules
(revenue, not cash)

Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
I’m sure every single one of us could come up with opinions, some of which will
inevitably be correct.

*I think Farke deserves a 2nd season
*Farke/the defence needs to up his/their tactical game - 3 times yesterday
Southampton shot from essentially the same place - 1 goal, a Meslier save, and
a shot into our defence - obviously they had worked on this flaw!
* controversially, I think we definitely need to be rid of the Championships
best player - cash in if possible.
* I didn’t want Gnonto in the team after his pre-season stupidity, but he does
at least try - however, is he just a one-trick pony - I think he’ll go as well
*another controversial one - I really do not like, at all, the way our team is
set up to be so cautious, and the snails pace build-up - if that is Farke’s
modus operandi then I don’t think it’s going to work? Although I concede it
nearly did, but I still don’t like it!
* Rutter - for all his charisma and occasional bits of brilliance, it feels
like we’re always a man light in midfield when he plays, and when the
Championships best player is in a strop then doubly so
* petulance - all Southamptons bookings were as a result of stopping us
playing. The championships best players lost his rag cos his shirt was pulled!
Him and Willy are like spoilt little kids!

We’ve papered over a lot of cracks this season, but eventually they get spotted
- there are a hell of a lot of things to be sorted out - again!

I'm mystified by the view that failing to get promotion (despite all but
guaranteeing to the board that he would get promotion, according to Phil Hay)
but getting 90 points means it's "nonsense" to suggest another manager might do
better than Farke. I see a manager who talks a great game but:
- cannot use the players at his disposal to our best advantage. This is most
obvious when we need a goal, but instead of moving the ball quickly up the
pitch, our players, presumably at the insistence of their manager, patiently
wait for the opposition to get set in their deep block before moving the ball
up the field. This is despite having maybe the fastest player in the division
in Dan James in the squad, along with other fast runners/good dribblers in
Summerville, Gnonto and Anthony. I want to hurl my coffee mug through the TV
screen when I see us ponderously pass it back and forth between Ampadu and
Rodon, then slowly up to about halfway into the opposition half, before
pausing, and passing it slowly all the way back to Meslier, who then launches
it up to the halfway line, where the opposition wins it. That's awful football
to watch, and it doesn't get us enough goals. We need a manager, or at least a
complete tactical overhaul that moves the ball with faster passing to unhinge
defences before they get a chance to fully park the bus.
- cannot coach set pieces to save his life (or job). I don't think we scored
from a free kick in the entire regular season. I'm struggling to think of any
from corners (maybe Rutter at Leicester, after Byram's header cannoned off the
bar).
- cannot change tactics mid-game when it's required. He was out-thought three
times this season by Russell Martin, a much less experienced manager.
- hasn't got the balls to make substitutions early enough to give the team the
best chance of winning. And then when he does make the changes, all he can
think to do is pack the XI with as many attackers as possible, which worked
once - away at Norwich - and never again. What would have happened yesterday if
we'd brought Dan James on at halftime yesterday?
- is too loyal to the players who cost a lot of money. I cannot understand what
he has against Mateo Joseph, but it is inexplicable to me that the one player
we know is good enough to score against a Premier League defence this season
(as opposed to in 2020-21) was given a few token minutes at the end, and as
usual in those few minutes looked sharper and more committed than Piroe has
done most of the season.
So yes, Farke got 90 points. But we lost. We did not get promoted. He was given
a team packed with international experience and effervescent youthful talent
and yet was beaten to the automatic places by a manager who'd never managed
above the third tier of English football. So I'm not convinced that something
similar won't happen next season. Yes, the three clubs coming down seem weak,
but that's because we're looking at how they got heavily beaten repeatedly in
the Premier League (like we did). They'll have bigger parachute payments next
season than we will, and may come again. Maybe another young manager like
McKenna will announce himself next season. We need a born winner, not some
yesterday's man.
Cheers!

Southampton have us properly figured out this season. Sharp attacks, good

borderline, to say the least. But they knew they needed to keep Gnonto,
Summerville and Rutter quiet and the rest would take care of itself. They only
wobbled those few times when we upped the tempo, and brought a little chaos to
things - mainly around Dan James - up to that point Firpo had been just about
our best attacking threat. Kamara, is half a midfielder - he does the defensive
stuff fine, but he is gash at going forward - Batty, Dacourt, Philips all knew
a good forward pass when it presented itself. This is one of the reasons Archie
must be midfield regular next season.

The idea of replacing Farke is nonsense. That points tally is a record for not
achieving promotion.

Massively fucked off on the game, but the longer outcome is not so bad,
supposing we keep a decent core of these players, and the finances are not shot
to shit by this failure to get promoted, as is being mooted in some places.

I don't know the ins and outs of it all,but I believe it's not so simple as
the 49ers stumping up some cash. Apparently we did not pay some transfer
fees in full so we could massage our FFP losses...and there's supposed
to be 170 million we have to pay now. Presumably though if we can get
decent fees for Seville & Gnonto that might allow us some wiggle room. (Two
players, incidentally, along with Meslier & Joseph, signed for peanuts by
that useless know nothing Victor Orta)

What are we thinking for the team next year?

I’m assuming Gnonto and Summerville will be off, hopefully we get some fees for
the loan players that jumped ship. Have heard suggestions that they might try
to cash in on Meslier too.

With the parachute payments hopefully we can get a decent team together.
The hope that I’m clinging to is that the 49s aren’t in this to make up the
numbers and will invest in the squad.

Here’s what I’m thinking :
New GK
New RB
CB Ampadu
CB Struijk
LB Firpo (can’t see there being any offers for him)
CM Gray (fingers crossed he stays)
CM Gruev
RW James
CAM Rutter (if he stays - could we sign a new 10 and play Rutter on the wing?)
New LW
New CF (I’d like to see Joseph get a run)

I can't really argue with most if that Rich.

4 Wembley visits and one millennium stadium visit for me and we've only won
an unimportant Charity Shield. I won't be going again either. I just feel
let down.

My only disagreement with your comments is I reckon Rodon (altho he isn't
ours), Ampadou (sp) and maybe a future Archie would be okay in the Prem.

Personally, I'd stick with Farke, after all - he did get 90 points after an
awful season start situation.

Oh well.

Is the goalkeeping coach currently our set piece specialist? I'm sure I
heard that somewhere. Sack him.

Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
Team didn’t turn up unlike us lot who did at great expense. It was Doncaster
revisited and I hate Wembley and hope I never return.
I’ve got nothing to say about the match other than Summerville played in
gloves, the match passed Piroe by and Rutter showed us that he hasn’t been the
same player since his op.
None of that team is good enough for the PL currently, not one of them. We got
excited by the Norwich game but let’s face facts, they were rubbish.
On the last train out of Kings X there were a lot of very fed up fans but all
agreed that this team is a 100% championship team with a manager who is a 100%
championship manager.
Be interested to see who jumps ship and actually who wants to buy them ?

Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread Robert Heath
The suggestion that Farke should be sacked is beyond ridiculous.

I do think he and we need to appoint a specialist set piece coach though.

I'm currently pinning my hopes on the thought that maybe just maybe we
might be able to keep Rodon on another season loan.

I'm reasonably sanguine about another year in the Chumpionship... I'm
just cross that Soton are going up.

Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread Simon McNally via Leedslist
I feel similar.
Maybe because I didn’t expect us to win I’m not too disappointed.
Thought we started brightly but faded.
Too slow and predictable in the build up (as we have been for a while), hard to
say if that’s on Farke or the players (or both).
Seen a lot of calls for Farke to go. Two schools of thought though I guess.
Can you sack someone who got 90 points and was one game away from promotion? Do
we need more instability by changing manager again? How much would it cost as
he’s on a 3 year deal?
The other side would say he’s been out thought by Martin three times now,
doesn’t have a plan b other than to chuck a load of attackers on or a plan a
really other than hope Jimmy or Rutter do something amazing.
The football has been a bit slow and dull too.
I’m not sure which I agree with , maybe a bit of both.

Enjoyed my Wembley experience (particularly how quick it was to get a beer in
the ground) up to the actual game!
