it can only bre GOOD. GFH were never going to be good for LUFC. The shorter
their period of involvment the better. They dont have any money anywayw,
the transfers window proved that. This has got to be devastating news for
players, no doubt it will impact morale and this season is over..

Good riddance and bring it on I say.

She didnt seem to be bothered by the death of Bobby Sands. An MP in her own
country that she left to rot and die in jail.
What goes around comes around.

I see this event has turned into a "capitalism vs socialism" debate in

and/or useless. Like most things in life. And they also, funnily enough,
complement each other.

Re: [LU] Maggie and Mr Lee

2013-04-08 Thread Eric B
Socialism by principle is a distribution model where people take care of
each other by putting money into a common pot for a rainy day.
At any given time a smaller propertion of the population, X, need help from
the pot. Given that X is a small proportion of the population there is
enough
money for X that time. So in simplistic terms socialism is a provisioning
model. The same provisioning model is used many places. One example would
be airlines that sell too many seats for each flight knowing a certain %
will miss the flights due to various reasons.

The next thing that is supposed to happen is that X moves out of the pot
and back into the working population to pay back the funds used.
However, some will abuse this as we all know. Thats the problem.

There is plenty of evidence suggesting anyone of us could end up in need of
help one day, saying otherwise is just arrogant.

from a guardian article:

"She denounced Nelson Mandela and his ANC as "terrorists", something even
David Cameron ultimately admitted was
wrong.

brutal tyrants such as Augusto Pinochet, Saddam

dictator General
Suharto.

I have no doubt its hard to be a PM, and chose your enemies. But its clear
that sometimes there is no logic behind some of the choices.

My point about Sands was not to debate whether or not she was right about
NI. It was the lack of empathy towards his outcome that is describing of
who she was as a person. Anyways, I ve spent enough time on that old bag.

Re: [LU] Maggie and Mr Lee

2013-04-09 Thread Eric B
"At times when general prevailing economics are tough then some people
should be removed from contributing to the pot."
Those who cant contribute to the pot will naturally be in a position with
no income. So they will be "in" the pot consuming from it, not contributing.
So there is a form of "natural selection" taking place. Hopefully getting
out of the pot is a goal for those.

"The contributions of others should be lessened".
See above plus there are tax brackets taking care of this. On a slightly
different note; i think its Hungary that has applies a FLAT tax rate for
all with some success. I read about this a few years back, but have not got
up to date info. I d be keen on seeing what a flat rate for all does.

"This means that the "pot" does not have a constant rate of funding. "
That per se is not a problem as the requirement of X is also a variable.
All of this can and should be managed like any provisioning model.

"When do you stop contributing all together ?"
when you retire?

"Or should you stop contributing ?"
Why not be allowed to opt out so long you cannot go into the pot and claim
benefits? I do fear that some would opt. out and turn into crime if needed
though.
The pot as I call it, has got some hidden benefits to it as well. Some of
the monies spent should be considered investments rather than costs.

" What if you want top put in but can't add to the pot ?"
Not sure thats a real problem :-)

Rob, seriously: have you tried living off social welfare? do you seriously
think its a free holiday?

Re: [LU] a photo of Diouf that led to red card

2013-04-29 Thread Eric B
right, I still fail to see that he actually broke any rules as its not been
mentioned. I dont know all the rules, if any to be honest. they ve changed
a lot since I used to ref.

1. Hes entitiled to run where he wants to celebrate but its not ideal to
run in front of opposite fans to make gestures like that.
2. Maybe he was replying to some of the chants from the opposite fans? did
they chant to/about him?
3. A straigh RED should be supported by a rule specific to the
incident/breach of rule. Thats still outstanding by the looks of it.
Unless its one of those "generic" rules, ie bringing game into
disrespect, that was used. In general terms I hate those rules as they
allow the governing
bodies to make up shit for the occasion and (ab)use their position.

To me it sounds like an idiot of a ref.

Re: [LU] a photo of Diouf that led to red card

2013-04-30 Thread Eric B
Jim,

I am asking questions, right? You ve mentioned the disrepute thing: where
is this rule? I couldnt find it on the FIFA site.

If/when I take my son to a game and he gets to see something like this I
wont flinge. I suspect he wont either. Is it lifechanging for any human
being at any age to see this for a second or two? Nah. Kids are exposed to
worse things on telly every day just by watching the news.

Red card? yeah? seriously? If so it should be backed up by a rule, that is
my problem here. Wether you approved of the wrongdoing or not is
irrelevant: Diouf is entitled to a fair treatment like any other player. I
ve not been able to find cause for a direct red card online by looking at
rules.

I dont mind Diouf, I used to. I hope he stays and I like the fact thats hes
not 100% compliant.

Cheers,
Eric

its on mate: 11:35 PM

Setanta.com.au does the championship here down under. Its not clear to me
what timezone 1135PM is though..

Find a place that does Setanta but good luck mate. Saturdays are all AFL
and rygby over here. Maybe if you find an irish pub you ll be fine.

setanta: bloody thieves. they kept charging my account for god knows how
long after I cancelled.
of course you have to cancel in WRITING and theres no way you can prove you
cancelled etc. if you email then you have to fill
out a form on their webshite and you ll never hear back again..

the other thing here in australia is that you re not allowed to cancel
direct debits yourself. you have in fact not 100% control
of your own bank account. if theres a problem then the bank intervenes..
wtf!? in other countries I can cancel a DB and if there
is an issue then the company goes down the normal route of issuing
warnings, sending debt collectors etc.

fuck setanta. rant over

so Ian, you dont like pantera and other music is girly. whats good then?

On another note, I ve started watching games from 1982 WC in Spain on
youtube. any of that football beats any of the shit thats around today.
My conclusion is: music and football was better in the 80s. what a sad
state...

one of the things I miss from NL are the Tokos, the name for the
indo/surinam curry houses.
that food is awesome. I cant find any indo food down under.. oh well.

I dont get this obsession with AMS. theres heaps of other places to
stay/visit. I used to live in Haarlem, the real
Harlem so to speak. Its a lovely little place just 15 minutes train ride
out of AMS packed with great places to eat. its not packed at all.
The Hague is pretty awesome too. and right on the coast.

the weather in NL is killer though. worse than in the UK.

I disagree. There is more value in Leeds once we are promoted thus keeping
our best players to get promoted is a better strategy. However, if the
owners only think year by year then they will
be proned to making the short term "budget excercises". Thats true too.

for me this is the interesting bit:

Re: [LU] NON LU: Spain Brazil

2013-07-01 Thread Eric B
unworthy? for real? Its not really THAT easy to win mate, I thought you d
know by now. I d be more inclined to agree if you said Greece and Italy but
not spain.

I too dislike Spains style of playing and was very happy to see them loose.
The thing is that Brazil are known for the same style of football, pass the
bass around for a bit and then explode into something. Does it have to do
with playing under sun/heat? Heat tends to slow things around right? So no
wonder theres a culture for that style of playing in warm countries if my
theory is somewhat correct.

Having said that, Spain took that style of play to the extreme. its boring
to watch and Im ready for someone else, just not fuxxxing italy.

On a different note: Torres made a dumb comment. There is not 1 way of
playing football, there is not one way of making music etc.

Re: [LU] Leedslist Digest, Vol 37, Issue 12

2013-07-08 Thread Eric B
On this bottler thing: I dont think either of us know 100% sure why someone
doesnt win major titles, in tennis or golf, during a career.

There are instances where sports like these are dominated by an individual
for quite some time. Ie in recent times, Federer. They are just
BETTER players and that doesnt equal to the fact that the others didnt have
the nerves to beat them. There are wy too many factors at play here
to just call 1 as THE factor. Maybe calling someone a bottler AND making
the call that he lost due to nerves is a bit rich?

Viewing things in black and white sometimes doesnt show you the entire
spectre that applies.

I personally wouldnt call Henman a loser because he excelled at world level
at what probably was his hobby. And set himself up for life in doing so.
At the same time hes not a winner. So maybe hes not quite a winner but
certainly not the loser either?

Cheers,
Eric

Re: [LU] NON LU: EC ruling on world cup and euro champs

2013-07-19 Thread Eric B
I think every country in the EC can create their own lists, so this is not
UK and football specific only. IE; for Norway where skiing is a massive
sport some of the events there will be protected from exclusive
pay-per-view broadcasting.

the sad thing is that this could be good for dying sports like cricket :-)

[LU] NON- LU PM study tips

2013-08-06 Thread Eric B
I ve decided to diversify and look into Project Management. There are so
many poor ones out there that get paid big bucks, why no join the club as I
cant beat them?

Obviously studying this is a project in itself and I ve qualified the
method as a risk I need to manage, that will impact time and delivery which
will then impact cost and procurement.. God dam it..
Is there a Sex Pistols variant of project management by any chance?

I m doing some research now and I ve come across 3 methods there seem to be
common

prince2
PMP
PMbok

The course Im doing now uses PMbok but I ve not seen this anywhere so Im
weary.
I know we have PMs on this list, we must have!

I d appreciate any tips on the matter. Incl. tips of self education, ie
books for newbies.

Re: [LU] NON-LU: Techy help - UK Proxy

2013-08-07 Thread Eric B
Hi matt.

Im not sure what to recommend here. its telly over the internet, so the
state of the network will be a deciding factor. Have you got good reliable
internet at home? Technically I cant see why it wouldnt work, whether
quality is good enough is another matter. I find that when I watch stuff
online its not quite HD ey. I cant say if this is legit or not but I assume
it is as the box will have some built in software to link up to AJ.

theres 1 x USB connection to this so you might even be able to attach a
disk and record/save shows on it.

I ve got something similar, WD live and it works great, some apps (youtube)
are better than others (iview) but overall it works well.
This box is similar but geared towards sports.

theres a 7 day guarantee I d look into if I was you and I was concerned.

cheers,
Eric

I dont mind Mourinho most of the time. except when he blames the ref. for
shit. but on a whole hes an interesting chap that breaks out of the mold of
boring, PC managers that read scripts.

I just read about how when he played a smaller team in CL 2009 he went to
the opposite coach after the game and apologized for forgetting to greet
him before the game.
Hes not all that bad. I also read about how he took care of a mexican chap
that flew over to Madri from US and invited him on the bench and away games
as part of the staff.
Hes got a big heart.

Re: [LU] Leedslist Digest, Vol 38, Issue 38 - Mainly NONLU

2013-09-01 Thread Eric B
Rich,

Hold your horses. Last time you went to war with the US it was based on a
massive lie: on the foundation that WMD exist. A huge scam, right?
That went through your democratic parliament nicely didnt it? The same
decmocratic parliament that doesnt object to the MI6 rocking up at newspaper
offices demanding that they delete compromising files. A democratic thing
to do?

Also, if you SERIOUSLY think the UK is not best buddies with the US then
think again.

FYI, France's then-Foreign Minister, Dominique de Villepin received loud
applause for his speech against the Iraq War at the United Nations on
February 14, 2003.
So, I find it a bit much that you take morale high ground whilst at the
same time dishing shit across the pond or to any other party.

Whats happening now in Syria is indeed very intriguing. From a military
point of view it is tactically challenging that Assad, who is in winning
position should do this.
For once I think Putin has made me think twice, Im sad to say. For the
record, Im not saying Assad didnt do this atrocious crime, Im just saying I
havent seen evidence
on it yet. Have others? Also, if the evidence comes from the US then I
think some of us will be spectical after what happend with the WMD scam.
Its a sad state of affairs..

In the light of your parliament saying no this a military action: should
this act be forgotten and left alone?

Cheers,
Eric

Too bad for the several hundreds victims of chemical weapons.. Im not sure

Re: [LU] LUTV on Ipad/android

2013-09-22 Thread Eric B
Have you looked into if you can change your browser on the ipad so that it
doesnt announce itself as a mobile browser? Surely, its possible to make a
mobile browser present itself like a desktop browser? If that is the case I
assume your credentials would pass?

http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-wordpress-pda-038-iphone-use-firefox-plugin-to-view-this-on-your-desktop-browser-d

Note. to my knowledge the iPads dont do flash, so if LUTV is flash based
that wont work until you address it.

Cheers and good luck,

[LU] NON LU: get stuff off your sky/foxtel box

2013-09-25 Thread Eric B
Have you ever wanted to get the encrypted stuff OFF your Sky/Foxtel box? I
think I ve found
a solution:

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr2-gaming.html

This box sits between the box and the TV with an HDMI in/out and records.
Hopefully
this is of interest to some. I know I ve wanted to keep things in the past
but couldnt.

Cheers,
Eric

2013-09-26 Thread Eric B
yeah, I was going to say, nothing is free.

I VPN into sweden (ipredator) before looking for things. Im not saying Im
downloading
stuff illegally in an email that sits on a google server. THAT im not doing
:-)

Anyways, if you were to rip/backup or download a file that has not come via
itunes to an ipad you need to install an app that will play the frikking
file. I use "HD player". I install that app. then I upload movies on the
ipad connecting to the ipad over HTTP. get it? :-)

I cant say that I buy in on the "he cant be good cause hes not in their
team" logic mate.

Paul Pogba would be one of many examples that defy that logic.
