[LU] Brighton home game
Finally managed to get some reasonably cheap trained tickets to travel from London to Leeds v Brighton in March only for scum Sky to change the kick off time today. Can't get a train back now that we kick off at 5.30pm. Does anybody have a contact with London Whites or anybody we can get a lift back to London with? Petrol funds available, thanks. Re: [LU] Match Report
Agree with Matt on all comments about the game and McCormack. We could have been easily 3 down inside 10 mins and even with 10 men it seemed like the old days with Grayson (without such attaching threat or intent), i.e., might need 3/4 goals to get a draw. At 2-0 and against 10 men, we could have easily lost. I was only relaxed when the 3rd went in at 90 mins. McCormack could not have foreseen the most hellish of scenarios; missing chances, off-side goal (all in front of Leeds fans), taken off injured and then having to limp past 3500 Leeds fans to get to the tunnel, and loosing unfairly 3-0. But hey-ho, I don't feel sorry for him. Mike On 19 Mar 2015, at 13:28, MATTHEW GAYNOR wrote: You didnt mention the guy next to you shouting out 'FFS Leeds you're never going to score like that' - approx 5 seconds before Byram headed in from our first attack after 40 minutes. It was clear before that moment that Fulham and Smith and McCormack were destined not to score, but both played well and Silvestre made several good saves as well as Smith missing a couple. It was similar to Bournemouth away in that we could have been 5 down at h-t before going onto win. Even with 10 men they looked more threatening than us. When they hit the post for the 3rd time in the 2nd half and the ball bounced back off the inside of the post straight to one of our defenders, we were laughing more than we did at Morrisons shot on Saturday. Agree re McCormack - didnt really deserve the abuse given the price we got for him and the fact Cellino was forcing him out. At the game, but Leeds not. Sloth useless, bamba being very clumsy, can't keep hold off the ball, no penetration. Mc smith always seems to terrorise us. Desperate dull performance. Re: [LU] 2 0 victory
Went to the game last night, agree with Matt's comments, 2 poor teams. We were pretty toothless first half but Reading didn't offer much for a team at home and just won two on the bounce. We were better in the 2nd half and our goal against the run of play a little, meant that they left spaces at the back which we could have exploited better but the 90th min goal helped to ease the pressure with 5 added mins. Bamba my MOM, but how Phil Hay could say Bellusci was excellent was ridiculous. The guy was awful, hoofing it into the air and not been up the field, terrible distribution. Although I am no Austin fan, we looked very lightweight without him. Having said all that, a surprisingly fantastic result! Re: [LU] Norwich
Hi, I went last night, my first live game this season. And having been encouraged at least by the style of play I have seen in some TV games this season, I said to my boy, "well at least we might see dome decent football". Well, how wrong was I. Possibly the worst 45 minutes of football I have seen in a long time from Leeds and reminiscent of the dark days of Warnock. We were obviously told to play very deep which meant they had the total run of midfield, even playing 442 their central midfield 2 seemed to have acres of space and time to get the ball down and spray it right and left. They had so much width (ok they didn't do a lot with it but it scared us every time their wingers got the ball). In contrast we had no width, and looked to be closed down every time a Leeds player got the ball. We were congested, couldn't pass and tackling by nearly all the Leeds players were just random kicks and slices at opponents legs. One time Bianchi decided to take this guy's legs when the Norwich player was facing us and going away from goal. Brainless. Goodness what has happened to Byram who looks a shadow of the player he was. I could go on but it is too depressing. BUT we got a point! I don't how, and we nearly sneaked 3 at the final attack of the game. So many times we were shouting at Leeds players to close them down and attack the ball and yet time and time again we stood off them, giving them yards to pass and run at us. The only reason the scoreline wasn't 6 or 7 to Norwich was because of their wastefulness not our resilience. Adryan? The kid has skill and a bit of pace and great technique, but it was attritional out there and I am not sure he has the stomach for it. Better as a 'last 20 mins guy' than a starter methinks at the moment. Having said that, the only one that should start on the basis of that performance would be Silvestri, who again, was excellent, except a few bad windy kicks. Darko needs time, but I am not convinced that he knows what he is doing. Great goal by Doukara but like many in this team, he has talent and can play but only for 25-30% of the game. And the reason why he is not playing on Saturday is that he just cannot tackle and lunges in with his tree trunk legs wildly taking on a life of their own and clattering into people. So strangely, whilst I was delighted with our point, it was not 'well deserved' and seemed to suck any sense that we are going in the right direction as a team out of me. Leeds fans, class as always - I am sure they let in more than the spare 200 going on sale and many were standing all down the steps each side. As for our six-thumbed friends to our right, literally 2 chants when they scored and silence before and after. But hey, what's new? Sorry for being so negative from getting away point from a top of the table team. It's the years of being in lurkdom reading Rich Walkers realism. Well done Steve, David Haigh's P45 in the post as a memento. Not hard really in the scheme of things but surely very unusual for a team to have some many of its current squad in the same division? Perhaps David Attenborough would be willing to commentate on his first match instead of Thom Kirwin. Let's give the lad at least one game before we write him off. Re: [LU] LU Our new Joe Jordan
Thoughts from an Oldham fan to brighten our day about our new wonder boy.…looking forward to seeing the uk coastline in action. He’s a target man for a plan B or C option when the chips are down to get that knock down in the box for a poacher or for him to cause chaos at a set piece. Unless it hits his head or if he’s practically stood on the goal line he will not score with a clean strike in 99/100 with either foot so finishing is not his strong point. As for speed forget it, the erosion of the uk coastline would beat him in a 100metre sprint, that said it is the most unusual running style you have ever seen for a footballer and worthy of a David Attenborough style commentary. [LU] Watford
Just back from the game. Believe me, the stats lie - we were absolute garbage. The penalty was our first shot on target - literally - on 95 minutes. Hoof and hope football from every Leeds player on the pitch, shocking. No imagination, no pace, no passing ability, no idea. No player can come out of that thinking they got above 2/10 apart from perhaps Lees and Kisnorbo and McCarthy. I thought a rollicking at half-time would change it but we just did the same thing second half. If we didn't hoof it we passed to a Watford player. Even though we got a point, it was very depressing. Re: [LU] Jimmy Adamson RIP
Very true, I also associate his name like that. I distinctly remember going to West Brom game at the Hawthorns and the Leeds fans shouting 'Adamson out'. I also recall the West Brom fans singing rather funnily, "there's only one united and that's a chocolate biscuit". Happy days. Nice biscuit though, where have they gone?
